Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

The show looked more and more like "Ghost Watch."

Thanks to John, who used to be a horror fan and had seen various horror movies, including found-footage horror films like Ghost Watch.

Of course, this show wasn't American, but British.

It was a broadcast company and production team that spent a night conducting a "paranormal investigation."

The host, a blogger specializing in the paranormal, and a film crew were investigating the truth behind "Britain's most haunted house."

Although the content of the show wasn't what John remembered, it contained a lot of information, because it meant that hauntings didn't only exist in America.

Similar things also existed in other regions and countries.

Among them, Japan had a particularly large number of urban legends about ghosts and monsters.

Currently, John's most urgent task was to check the news in the United States. He clicked on the website about ghost and god research, which contained many true and false messages and videos.

There were videos, and also legends from various places.

For example, there was a horror legend about a small town shared by someone named Judith, which was about Mary Shaw, a ventriloquist from the 1940s.

Some people below believed it, while others questioned it.

John, however, believed the legend was true because he had heard that nursery rhyme.

"Beware the stare of Mary Shaw, she had no children, only dolls..."

There was also a small town where the disappearance and death rates of children were six times the average.

A certain female exploration team disappeared in a karst cave.

A mental hospital in California was haunted, and all the doctors and nurses in the hospital went missing.

Population disappearances occurred on remote roads.

Chucky murder cases.

...

John couldn't be sure, but based on the known information, he could initially judge them as suspected Child's Play, Halloween, Dead End, Hellraiser, Paranormal Activity, Ghost Stories, Antlers, The Possession, It, The Descent...

This was only what he had seen so far; he didn't know how many more there were hidden.

Originally, he had felt a little safe because he had two Deformed Men as bodyguards, but now it seemed that if he encountered any of these incidents, he could die.

Deformed Cannibal might be fine against ordinary people or serial killers.

But once the intensity increased, the Deformed Cannibal would likely be torn to shreds instantly.

Just as John felt a chill down his spine, a soft, warm body pressed against him.

Jessie hugged John from behind and glanced at the computer, saying,

"Honey, why are you looking at this kind of website?"

It was already almost midnight outside, and it was pitch black. Plus, having just escaped death, Jessie was somewhat scared.

She needed John's comfort, or rather, they needed to comfort each other.

"Just a little curious." John quietly closed the website, turned his head, and looked down to find Jessie wearing only a bathrobe with nothing underneath. No wonder the feeling on his back was so real.

"It's time to sleep, Jhon." Jessie blew a warm breath into John's ear, her meaning very clear.

Neither of them were children; they were both adults.

It was normal to need to release pressure.

John turned his head, and Jessie kissed him. Her bath towel slipped, and Jessie, like a beautiful snake, slid her lips down John's neck.

From John's perspective, he could see a profound depth, but while gazing into the abyss, the abyss was also staring at him.

John squinted and stroked Jessie's head, just like petting a dog, only with a bit more force and more frequent nodding...

...

The next day.

Except for Chris, who woke up early, the other four all overslept without exception.

When they gathered downstairs at the hotel.

The group went to the police station to ask for the results, and the answer they got was that the investigation was still ongoing, and the patrol officer who went to investigate yesterday had lost contact.

Hearing this, John knew that the unlucky patrol officer had most likely already kicked the bucket.

As for whether to go back and look for the small Deformed Cannibal while it was still early in the day, he decided against it.

That forest area was too large, and there was no need to waste time.

John, Jessie, Scott, and Carly were preparing to return home. After this incident, none of them had the mood to travel anymore.

Compared to other states, Florida, with its outstanding people and beautiful scenery, was safer.

Their cars were all broken, so they had to rent a new one.

John paid for it. There was nothing he could do; the inheritance his parents left him was truly vast.

Even before he awakened his past life's wisdom, he often squandered money, but he still didn't need to worry about money.

On the way home, Scott was still driving, but this time he was much more cautious, his eyes practically glued to the car window, checking for roadblocks on the ground.

It seemed that Wrong Turn had left a deep impression on him.

John, however, was carefree, basking in the sun with a beauty in his arms. This trip was, for him, perfect.

His primary task now was to contain ghosts and evil spirits.

Because Deformed Cannibal could only defend against people, not against intangible evil spirits and ghosts.

Without a few bodyguards around him, he was a bit afraid of accidentally encountering or entering a horror event when he went out.

The journey was smooth all the way.

Until the sun set in the afternoon, when the car passed a certain manor, the weather suddenly turned cold.

John's physical constitution had always been good; he could withstand going out even in winter, but it was so cold here that he wanted to put on several thick cotton coats.

The fence of that manor was very high.

John's vision was enhanced, so he could see very clearly. There seemed to be a person standing inside the gate of that manor, but in the blink of an eye, the person disappeared.

His heart sank to the bottom. No way...

John took out his phantom card and saw that the entire card surface was covered with blood-red writing.

"Traces of the containment object Ghost Manor detected!"

"Traces of the containment object Ghost Manor detected!"

"Traces of the containment object Ghost Manor detected!"

...

Even though it was still daytime, John couldn't feel a trace of warmth.

"Scott, accelerate!"

John roared, scaring Scott into stomping on the accelerator. The car instantly sped, and it wasn't until they were further and further away from the manor behind them that John's mood calmed down.

He looked back and saw that the manor had disappeared.

What a joke!

John didn't speak in response to Jessie's concern; he just wanted to run away now.

That manor just now was very similar to the Ghost Manor in England. As its name suggested, there were no people in that manor, only vengeful spirits and ghosts.

John would rather die than step foot into such a place until he had contained a King or Queen-level containment object.

Fortunately, the rest of the journey was smooth.

That Ghost Manor seemed to have appeared only by chance.

The four of them successfully returned to Yuanha Town.

John parted ways with Jessie and the others. Although he and Jessie had spent a pleasant night, they hadn't become a couple.

Firstly, their identities, and secondly, their ages were not suitable.

Jessie had actually tried, but John refused her. He could have women, but a girlfriend needed consideration.

After returning to the largest villa in town, which was John's small home where he studied abroad, he immediately searched online for news about the Ghost Manor.

At the same time, his phantom card was placed nearby. Once any trace was prompted, he would immediately close his computer to avoid accidentally falling into a trap.

He did find some traces when he searched online.

It seemed to be about the secret of the Ghost Manor.
