Lilian's POV
Augusto suddenly tensed, as if sensing a presence beyond the doorway. His voice cut sharp through the air as he rose and strode toward the entrance.
Terror seized my chest. I spun around and slipped into the adjacent hallway, diving into the first empty room I could find.
Minutes dragged by in suffocating silence. No footsteps echoed outside. I pressed my teeth into my lower lip and cracked the door open just enough to peer through.
There stood Augusto near the corridor's end, deep in conversation with Ashley.
Her face glowed with that radiant smile she always wore, while his features had softened into an expression I rarely witnessed. That tender look he reserved exclusively for her.
A bitter laugh escaped me under my breath.
Augusto wasn't heartless at all. He simply saved his warmth for those who mattered to him.
That gentle gaze in his eyes belonged to Ashley alone.
Soon enough, Augusto guided Ashley toward Rosie's room.
