Chapter 1 - 1

His hand on her waist was warm and comfortable as he guided her through the crowded main hall of the city built into the cliff. Robin could smell salt and water and vaguely wondered if they were near an ocean. As a human she was somewhere that she shouldn't have been. The large man walking beside her growled and grabbed her arm as several large boys about Robin's age cat called her. He jerked her hard to the right and down a narrow passageway that seemed to twist and turn endlessly.

'This is it. This is how I die.' Robin thought to herself as she was dragged along the dimly lit passage. Despite his seeming anger Robin couldn't help but feel safe with this man. After all he hadn't hurt her yet. It wasn't what she expected from a wolf shifter. Robin examined his features that were set in a look of anger. He was quite handsome in a dark sort of way.

He had light brown hair though it seemed almost blonde with the way the light caught it just right that was cut short and seemed to be styled in a messy effortless way. His eyes were greyish blue with a lance of gold going through them. His jaw, currently set in a hard line, was strong and masculine with the hint of a five o'clock shadow. He was tall standing at six foot seven. His shoulders were broad and well muscled. his strong hands were calloused from a life of hard work and while his grip wasn't painful it certainly wouldn't be easy for Robin to break free, impossible to do so without injuring herself.

She was snapped out of her thoughts, which had been decidedly errotic as she examined his strong shapely ass, by the sudden flourish of movement in front of him as an older man of about thirty shoved an eight year old girl behind him with an aggressive growl.

"Human!" Her captor had a gun in his hand and was pointing it at the other man with a level of cold detachment she thought only serial killers could accomplish.

"Go the other way." He growled softly. The man opened his mouth to protest but her captor turned protector only repeatedly the words. Finally the older man turned and scooped the terrified girl into his arms and rushed back the way he had come from. Her broody companion grunted and made his way to a door halfway down the passage and shoved her across a massive room.

Robin stumbled and caught herself on the massive soft bed that took up an entire corner of the room. She gasped as she hit the bed and spun around just in time to see him lock the door and begin to pace. His grey blue eyes fixed on her seemed almost animalistic in their manic state. For the first time since he had tackled her in the forest she was afraid. Finally he stopped and broke the silence that sat like a weight between them.

"What were you doing all the way out here?" He demanded in his deep threatening growl.

"I..... I got lost..." Robin whimpered pathetically.

"Bullshit! Humans don't come this far into the forest unless...." He stopped suddenly and sniffed the air before stepping closer to Robin and sniffing again. He went pale and began to paw at her dress. "Where are you bleeding from!" He demanded sounding almost panicked.

Robin flinched hard and cried out as his frantic hands found her broken and badly bruised ribs. She crumpled as she pulled her arms in to shield her side. He jerked back and growled but caught her nonetheless, saving her from smashing her head on the cold stone floor.

"Fuck!" He half snarled as he lifted Robin as if she weighed nothing at all and placed her gently on the bed. He quickly undid the buttons of her baby blue sundress and, before she realized what he intended, he had the dress clutched in his fist as he stared at the juncture of her legs while she tried to cover her body with her arms.

"Amiotic fluid.... that's..... I'm so sorry." He dropped the dress and rushed from the room as she realized what he had. I could sort of numb detachment came over her suddenly.

She touched her belly and felt nothing. The baby she had desperately wanted, the one Erle had told her so many times he would protect with his life, the baby she had loved more than life was gone. She didn't realize that tears were streaming down her face until the man that had brought her here returned with another man who rushed over with a large black bag. She swiped at her tears and tried to focus on anything but the sound of her own heart beat in her ears. The strange man was asking a lot of questions rapidly.

"I....I don't..... Can't breathe...." Robin gasped finally.

"Focus on me." Her captor said as he moved to sit next to her on the bed. "You're having a panic attack. It's okay. Just focus on me." The bite of threat was gone from his voice now, replaced by a deep sort of sorrow and guilt though she couldn't understand why.

She vaguely realized that the two men were discussing something, though she didn't care what it was. The doctor examined her thoroughly spoke briefly to her companion and left them alone. He looked as if he wanted to say something. But he just sighed heavily and left once again.

Robin was alone with her thoughts and the crushing weight of the grief that threatened to suffocate her. She didn't notice when he returned but he was suddenly helping her to stand up. Robin was numb. She knew exactly who was to blame for the loss of her baby.

Robin didn't resist as the man gently removed her blood soaked panties, she barely registered that he was using something warm and wet to clean between her legs with gentle wipes and dabs. For such a large man he was surprisingly gentle, constantly apologizing for tackling her in the forest.
