However, there were some unexpected discoveries—such as the fact that his grandfather actually had six children. This was something Gisei hadn't known.
Gisei had always assumed his grandfather only had two sons: his father and his uncle. After all, he had never seen the others. It made sense, though; they were people who had lived and died back in the brutal Warring States period.
The four relatives he had never met were three males and one female. One had died in battle, and three had committed suicide.
Reading between the lines, Gisei could feel his grandfather's painful struggle and glimpse some of his descent into madness.
