Chapter 44 - Chapter 43: Show

OUTSIDE…

The small campfire cast a weak, flickering light across the quiet clearing.

A small group of wild Geodude floated quietly near the campfire.

Their big, trapezoidal shaped eyes stared hard at the tent walls, watching the tall, moving shadows from the lantern inside dance and twist with growing intensity.

At first, the shadows moved gently, three figures close together.

But soon the movements grew sharper, more urgent, building a palpable tension in the air.

The Geodude tilted their heads in confusion, hearts pounding with suspense as they wondered what serious conflict was unfolding.

The long-eared shadow suddenly loomed forward.

It pressed down hard on the smaller, rounded middle shadow, forcing it downward until it was pinned firmly between the long-eared one and the cape-like shadow already stretched flat on the ground.

The middle shadow struggled briefly, its outline jerking and pushing back as if trying to wriggle free from this grave assault.

Leg-like shapes from the bottom shadow locked tight around its neck, holding it in place with unyielding strength.

The pressure from above only increased, grinding the middle shadow deeper into the form beneath it, the scene turning even more serious and desperate.

Loud cries leaked out, "Nyaa~♡" and "Lopuuu~♡", mixed with happy purrs that seemed oddly out of place in such a fierce battle.

The Geodude floated closer, eyes wide with excitement and suspense.

A battle… the middle shadow seemed to be fighting back hard.

Then the middle shadow twisted free for a moment, rising up with sudden strength.

Before it could escape, both taller shadows tackled it back down in a chaotic tangle.

They collapsed together on the ground, outlines overlapping in frantic, thrilling chaos.

The long-eared one shifted to the side, holding the legs apart.

The cape-like one climbed on top.

But the middle shadow refused to give up.

After more struggle and loud cries, it finally turned the fight around.

It pinned the long-eared one beneath it, gripping its legs and forcing them wide.

Then it struck back fiercely, thrusting upward from below with powerful, repeated slams of its lower body.

Each thrust landed with a sharp, rhythmic slap, skin against skin, followed by soft, wet squelches that echoed clearly in the night air, mixed with rising cries that built unbearable suspense.

"Lopunnnyyy~♡!"

The cape-like shadow pressed in from the side, trying hard to make the middle one stop.

It leaned close, tail swaying as it pushed and held, like it was trying to calm the fight or pin the middle shadow down again.

But the middle shadow kept thrusting upward with fierce power, refusing to slow even for a moment.

The small group of Geodude hovered in the shadows, rumbling quietly in unison.

"Geo, Geo, Geo…!"

They cheered under their breath for the middle shadow's relentless counterattack, rocky fists clenched in excitement.

The fight dragged on for hours, positions switching back and forth between the two taller ones on top.

Sharp slaps and wet sounds rang out steadily.

Cries grew louder and more frantic.

Finally, the middle shadow delivered one last, deep slam.

A long, trembling cry rang out.

Then the middle shadow slumped heavily on top, completely tired, unable to move even an inch.

The other two shifted around it, nuzzling happily as they had defeated the middle shadow.

They moved the exhausted middle shadow, arranging it between them.

One curled close on each side.

Quiet purrs faded slowly into peaceful sleep.

The lantern's soft glow went out, shadows disappearing one by one until the tent fell completely silent.

The cluster of Geodude hovered motionless, big eyes dimming with quiet disappointment.

The brave fighter they had rooted for so hard had lost after all.

That final powerful blow had taken everything out of it.

With a chorus of soft, unsatisfied "duuude…", the Geodude floated away into the night, heads shaking slowly.

The next morning, I stepped out of the tent, stretching wide under the cool air, feeling relaxed and happy.

Meowscarada and Lopunny followed right behind, looking perfectly normal. They groomed themselves lazily, purring softly, acting like it had been just another peaceful night.

As I passed by one of the Geodude resting among the rocks, it turned its big eyes toward me.

It stared for a long moment with a strange, almost comforting look, like it felt a little sad for me.

The Geodude let out a low, soft "duuude...", voice quiet and oddly gentle, as if offering some kind of silent sympathy.

I paused, confused, but gave it a small smile and nod anyway.

It floated there a second longer, then drifted back to its spot with a slow shake of its head.

I blinked, completely confused, looking back and forth between Lopunny and Meowscarada, wondering what just happened.

Lopunny tilted her head, long ears twitching curiously.

Meowscarada's tail flicked once, her pink eyes narrowing slightly as she glanced back at the Geodude, then back at me.

Neither of them seemed to understand what the rocky Pokémon meant either.

We stayed camped in the area for three more days, resting and exploring the rocky terrain.

But it seemed like more and more Geodude were comforting me the next day.

Some floated a little closer even giving rocks, whenever I walked past, staring with those big eyes.

A few even rumbled low "duuude..." sounds when I got near, like they were talking about me.

At first I was confused. I hadn't done anything wrong, had I?

I didn't mind it too much. They didn't seem just... curious or maybe a little weird, I guess?

But most importantly...

During that time, I got to see something interesting: how Geodude are born.

There were lots of rocks scattered around, and according to the data I'd collected, some seemed to rise slowly from the ground over time.

I was still confused about the exact process, but Lopunny, with her sharp senses, suddenly perked up one afternoon.

She touched my arm gently and pointed.

"Lopuu?"

A medium-sized rock nearby trembled slightly, rising bit by bit from the soil.

We watched quietly as it fully emerged.

Then, with a sharp crack, it split open.

A small, fresh Geodude floated out from inside, shaking off dust before drifting away, exploring the world around it.

It was simple, rough, but amazing to witness.

Although I wanted to investigate more, maybe find an underground cave or dig deeper to learn even more about how Geodude appear, I didn't have a Pokémon that could dig safely.

I also couldn't find any obvious cave entrance nearby.

For safety reasons, I decided not to push it this time.

We'd come back better prepared in the future.

For now, it was enough to have seen one born right in front of us.

We packed up and continued the journey…
