In the evening, Rowan grilled a few ferns to taste. As a result, after just one bite, his whole mouth was both bitter and numb, carrying a sour and astringent taste that was hard to swallow.

He didn't know if there was a problem with his method, but grilling them made them inedible.

"Owen, how about you do it? Why isn't it like the dragon claw vegetable we ate before? Is it because the species is different?"

Owen took it: "These things all have to be boiled once in water to remove the bitterness. Only then will grilling them make them delicious."

"We don't have a stone pot here, so how do we boil them?" Even when he wanted to drink water, he just stuffed handfuls of snow directly into his mouth.
