Chapter 2 - chapter two: passage through shadows

The air in the grand chamber was thick with tension, swirling like the dark clouds that loomed ominously over the kingdom of Sivennia. Outside the castle walls, the sounds of anguish echoed faintly, a haunting melody underscoring the gravity of the moment that held Alleon and Mareeva von Vandereich in an unyielding grip. The royal couple stood before the flickering portal, its edges radiating a soft, blue light that shimmered like the depths of the ocean, promising safety yet unknown horrors on the other side.

Raven, their only daughter, slept silently in her cradle, her peaceful face in contrast with the raging flames about to engulf their world. Mareeva moved closer to her daughter, her silk gown tightly hugging her figure, her long fingers steady as she retrieved a small intricately designed amulet; a small carving in the golden case, the name she had chosen for her little baby.

She placed the amulet in the silk wraps of her daughter, her breath shaking, tears slid down her cheeks. Her fingers moved to touch the soft cheeks of her baby, the warmth threatening to break her self control.

"It will shield you from harm, my sweet," Mareeva said through shallow breaths, her eyes glistening. "Remember, wherever you go, you carry my love with you. It will guide you through the darkest shadows." her parting words to be carried along by the wind.

Across the room, Alleon von Vandereich stood with arms crossed, his jaw set and his shoulders squared against the oncoming storm. He was a formidable figure, exuding an aura of strength wrapped in desperation. Dark hair, flecked with silver, framed his face, his sharp features etched with resolve and sorrow.Mareeva could see him wrestling with unspoken fears, uncertain of the path they had chosen for their daughter.

Alleon was tied for words, he felt his sorrow tearing deep into his flesh, ripping his last shred of warmth.

He moved closer to his wife, hugging her shoulders, though unsure of the path they had chosen, they had to be brave.

"Love, we must be brave, our Kingdom, our house and family, depends on this choice. This Journey she must carry out on her own now, she will grow stronger and find her way home. We will have to wait for our Raven."

Mareeva nodded, swallowing hard. She understood the implications of this path they had trudged on. She couldn't afford fear.

With her daughter's hand still warm in hers, Mareeva took a deep breath regaining her imposing aura. The tension hanging aroud the council room moved with a rhythm of its own, the council members could speak not a word of encouragement. They understood, their sovereigns had to take tge full brunt of the tragedy they couldn't avoid. "Darling we have to go." Alleon reminded, his voice breaking ever so slightly, betraying the fierce warrior within.

Mareeva nodded, her eyes raw with emotion. a certain betrayal of her ease. Alleon took a deep breath, steadying himself. It was time. He turned towards the portal, his heart heavy yet resolved to protect his family's legacy in every way possible. He extended his hand, palm upward, and the portal crackled to life.

"lets go. im certain she would be safe with the blood wings." Alleon said, his voice a low rumble in the charged room. Mareeva took a shaky breath, the thrumming magic of the portal resonating with a song that whispered promises of reunion.

"she will find her way home!" Mareeba said, summoning every ounce of courage as she approached the shimmering barrier, each step a reminder of the love and duty thrumming in her chest.

Mareeva and Alleon exchanged one last look, a tether forged by their shared fears and hopes. As they stepped forward and crossed into the embrace of the portal with their little daughter held tightly to Mareeva's chest. lingering glimmers of magic spiraled around them illuminating the darkness. The portal wouldn't last long, they had to hurry. Their hearts raced with trepidation, an exhilarating rush of wind wrapped around their figures, dizzying their senses as they were transported through realms to another world, just like theirs but different.

As the light engulfed them, swirling in kaleidoscopic colors, they could sense it, the magic of Brusellie quietly watching, waiting for a sight of its new visitors. With a breath their surrounding were changed. The bright glow of the purple moon, though fleeting was soon covered by endless dark clouds, like aversion to their intrusion, the rain began with a roguish clatter on the roofs of the buildings that surrounded them. thunder rumbled , shadows drifting along the walls, the baby began to stir, she had noticed the difference. her cries like a rude awakening, reminded them of their mission. with a burst of speed, they ran along the darkened streets, finding their way to a gate of black metal, imposing as it assessed their presence. With apprehension, they prayed he would listen, they knew he could hear it already, but were unsure if he would a knowledge, they couldn't go further than this, they had to return, the portal wouldn't wait. Witha final look and a light kiss on their child's forehead, they dropped her, guarded from the rain by their energies, at the gate of the mansion surrounded by shadows. With silent agreement, they withdrew. Her wails grew louder with the absence of her mother's warmth.

The rain grew louder on the roof, it echoed in the halls of the gigantic mansion. Damian sat on the swivel schair in his study, twirling a glass of blood red wine, a light smile lingering on his lips. "Brother, intruders", Da rel said with amusement laced in his voice. "i sensed them already, lets go see what gift they left this time", Damian answered with a rigid coldness in his voice.

With a flash of red light, they were at the door of their home, they felt a little uneasy but couldn't point out why, they wasted no time, going out into the rain with umbrellas hanging above their heads.

Damian's eyes gradually widened as he hated the soft cries, "a baby huh!" Da rel couldn't help the surprised smile on his face. Walking to the little bundle lying in front oh the gate, they couldn't help but let out a gasp. hearing tge light footsteps, the bundled child seemed to have found hope, she paused her cries and waited for the faces to come closer. Damian picked the child wrapped in silk up to his chest and looked down at her watery eyes and red cheeks from the crying, even in the rain her wrap was everything but wet. " What a lovely little child" Da rel broke the warm silence, "Mhmm" the ice on Damian's face seemed to have melted a little.

"What do you plan to do with it?" the question lingered between the brothers like air, not quite fitting. a light laugh escaped from the child's lips and their pupils constricted. they could feel it, utter chaos in her blood. " We keep her." that decision was a verdict .
