Chapter 1 - chapter 1 the down fall of Selaris

Yukiko was part of the Selaris bloodline. As a member of the Selaris bloodline, she inherited the family's signature moon like silver hair, a trait shared by the women in their lineage. She was born prematurely on December 12th, long before her White Wolf mana was formed. Because of that, the transformation in her blood continued after birth, and she stayed in the hospital until she had normal wolf mana and features until January 20th her celebrated birthday. Her twin, Akiko, didn't share the complication and was born later, in June.

Yukiko, the protagonist of this story, had icy blue eyes, while her twin, Akiko, had warm green eyes like their father. Their bloodline was powerful; the Selaris were the only family known to carry the blood of the White Wolf, making them rare and remarkable. Their unique appearance drew stares wherever they went, so much so that it became tradition for Selaris girls to dye their hair to match their father's color, hiding their true heritage from the world. Despite being twins, Akiko and Yukiko were different in every way. Akiko was naïve, sweet, and spunky, her personality bright and lively like her green eyes. Yukiko, on the other hand, was calm and shy, yet still capable of warmth and love. People often expected twins to be alike, but these two defied expectations entirely.

Now six years old, the twins were bundles of unstoppable energy, like raccoons who had discovered caffeine. Their laughter filled the halls of the Selaris estate. Misaki, their mother, was getting ready for the family ritual. Having married an American, many in the family thought she had forgotten the tradition entirely. As she adjusted her kimono, her husband Asher appeared, curiosity in his eyes.

"Love? Where are you going?" he asked.

Misaki turned around, a playful smile lighting her face. "Oh, I forgot to tell you this morning," she said, her tone teasing. "But… you've been quite the kisser this morning " She gave him a wink. Asher's face turned a deep shade of red, and for a moment he looked completely flustered.

Just then, the twins came bounding down the stairs, playing tag, their laughter filling the hallway. Their game screeched to a halt when they spotted their mother fully dressed in her kimono. Akiko tilted her head, studying her father's flushed face.

"Ma… I think Dad's sick…?" she said, half in concern, half in amusement. Then, glancing at her mother's elegant attire, she added, "And… where are you going?"

Yukiko, more observant and silent than her twin, simply narrowed her eyes and studied her mother carefully, as if trying to read her thoughts.

Akiko, ever impulsive, took a cautious step forward. "Wait, Mama, don't leave! Can we come too?"

Misaki laughed softly, her voice warm but firm. "Not this time, my little stars. This is something only I must do tonight."

The twins exchanged glances, curiosity sparkling in their eyes, while Asher remained frozen, still processing his wife's earlier tease.

In the commotion, Yukiko didn't want to let her father slip away. She wrapped her small arms around his leg, her voice pleading.

"Dad… don't leave!"

Asher looked down at her, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "Blueberry head," he said, scooping her up effortlessly. "I have work to do, but I'll bring some cheesecake later, okay?",Yukiko sadly tilted her head wispering "okay"

Ray was already walking past with his headphones on when Asher called out, handing Yukiko to him.

"Look after the twins," Asher said.

Ray froze for a moment, muttering a grumble, and reluctantly stopped to take Yukiko in his arms. Then, without much expression, he called over to Akiko.

"Hey… come on, you too," he said, still clearly annoyed.

Meanwhile, Asher and Misaki moved toward the door. Asher glanced back with a teasing smirk on his face.

"Don't burn the house down."

Misaki rolled her eyes, stepped forward, and smacked him on the head. "Honey," she said, her voice soft but playful.

Then she turned her attention to the children. "I think Ren is upstairs, probably in the library. Keep an eye on him too. Ren is grounded," she added firmly. "Ray, don't let him out."

Asher opened the car door and said shyly, "My lady."

Misaki looked at his flushed face and giggled. "Awe, look at you being a gentleman."

Ray shouted from in front of the door, "Stop flirting, lovebirds, and go already!"

With that, the parents left, leaving the twins in Ray's reluctant care as he finally resumed walking, headphones in, carrying Yukiko while Akiko followed behind, rolling her eyes at her brother's grumbling. Ray looked at the twins and sighed. "You two sit here and play. I'm going to check if Ethan's alive or not," he said before walking away. After a while, the twins grew bored. The house was quiet. So, they decided to go outside to the garden. The flowers swayed gently, and the wind carried laughter as Yukiko ran out of things to play. To cheer her sister up, Yukiko giggled, "Let's play tag!" tapping Akiko's shoulder before running off.

Yukiko was faster, much faster. She giggled as she ran past the hedges, not realizing she had left the garden and dashed into the road. Akiko chased after her, calling her name.

Then.... screech Thud…

Everything went silent. Akiko's small body lay still on the road. Misaki returned home at the worst possible moment. Her eyes widened in horror at the sight before her. Then, something inside her snapped. The barrier necklace she wore, meant to contain her White Wolf mana, cracked and shattered. Rage and grief exploded through her body, flooding her with uncontrollable mana. Her blonde hair dye melted off, her silvery hair shining through the melted dye. Her eyes, no longer starry blue, were replaced with crimson red.

Screaming in anguish, Misaki ran to her daughter, clutching Akiko's lifeless form. Her tears glowed faintly as her mana surged uncontrollably. Without thinking, she turned toward the driver her fury consuming all reason as her mana spun out of control. The air shifted. The driver never stood a chance.

But her wrath didn't stop there. Misaki's gaze shifted to the nearest living being Yukiko. The poor child stood frozen, not understanding the danger. Misaki's power lashed out, striking Yukiko with blinding force. The pain was unbearable. Yukiko collapsed, barely conscious. Through the haze, she heard her mother's trembling, broken voice half sorrow, half madness:

"Yukiko… it's because of you. You always had to do something wrong. Why her… and not you?"

And then darkness.

She woke up in her bed, groggy and in sharp pain. Ray walked in, surprised that she was awake, then changed it into coldness the next second. He calmly said, "You've been in a coma for a month. I will let Father know that you are conscious," and walked out.

Yukiko, in a daze, walked out, every step in pain. She looked up to see the housekeeper dusting. The housekeeper looked at her and fled quickly. She wondered if she was scared of her. She finally seemed to get consciousness .Then she realized what happened she sobbed at her twin being dead, guilt and sorrow crashing down on her. After a long while, she remembered her father was waiting. She wiped her tears, tidied herself up, and walked to her father's workroom. As she entered, she felt his blazing mana hit her in the face. She stumbled back in fear. Asher, with no remorse whatsoever, used his mana to pick Yukiko up from the ground and put her on the couch roughly. Then he sat down in front of her, growled "Watch this," and threw her a tablet before leaving. Yukiko, unsettled, started sobbing but still watched it. The device lit up with a video, and the narrator began speaking:

"Good evening, dear listeners. Today we are talking about the case that lasted a month to resolve. The White Wolf mass murder case. Misaki Selaris committed the murders of nine people in total. She is suspected of killing her child Yukiko, but the victim is still in a coma, and plus 8 passerby's and the driver who killed her child, known as Akiko. Misaki was sentenced to death today and in the meeting court was beaten by the victims' loved ones or guardians. They got away with it due to her sentence being death. How she killed the people was not found until her relatives came in to explain. Due to political reasons, we can't mention it. Every relative that has awakened or hasn't awakened is considered a danger to society, so they are sentenced to death in two months."

As the video came to an end, she finally broke down crying. Her mother's hatred was etched in her mind as her last memory of her mom. At such a young age, she suffered many losses. She lost her twin sister, her mom, and her relatives soon to be gone. No love or comfort from her remaining family members.
