Just A Nobody (Pokemon SI)

CH4: Trainer School
…
-Justin POV-
-Celestic Academy Of Pokemon Training, Celestic Town-
-January, Year 350 AD-
Q- Who is the current Champion of the Sinnoh region? What type of Pokemon does he specialize in?
'Man these are just basic questions.' I thought as I started writing down my answers. 'And I was worried about this?'
The Champion of Sinnoh is Franklin Xavier. He specializes in training Psychic type Pokemon.
'Next!' Some later questions were interesting though.
Q- Name all of the current Elite Four of Sinnoh region. And also name their type specializations.
The current Elite Four are-
Daenerys, the Dragon-Type Specialist.
Lola, the Dark-Type Specialist.
Luthor, the Normal-Type Specialist.
And Christoph, the Ice-Type Specialist.
All of them were very strong. And it made Champion Franklin even more impressive for holding a title against such strong competition. Especially against Lola because of the obvious type-weakness.
I had seen an old battle (like ten years old) where Elite Lola challenged the Champion and she was utterly destroyed.
Like seriously, it was mind boggling to see someone so high up lose so badly.
The image when the Champion's Gallade one-shotted her whole team without breaking a sweat despite the big type-disadvantage was imprinted in my brain.
Seriously, the Champion had my full respect for training his Pokemon to be so strong and for how he skillfully navigated that battle.
Especially when it was so early in his career.
Q- List the 17 Types of Pokemon.
'It's 17 because the Fairy type hasn't been discovered yet.' I thought to myself. 'I wonder how those Dragon-Type fans would react if they knew that there were a type of Pokemon that were completely immune to Dragon-Type moves.'
'I'm pretty sure they would be in denial.' I smirked.
'But of course, if the type advantage was enough to defeat the Pros then Lola should've easily defeated Franklin. Skill is almost always more important in a battle. With the right tactics even a Starly could win against a Charizard.' That was true.
Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, Ice, Dragon, and Dark.
'Next!-'
Q- Which Medicine do you use when your Pokemon has been poisoned?
'-And it's back to the boring questions.' I sighed.
…
After a while the exam was almost over and I was at my last question.
Q- How many Pokemon can a Trainer, a Coordinator and a Civilian carry with them? Explain.
'Easy.' I think as I write down the answer. 'While it may be different from my meta-knowledge, I have studied for this exam my whole life.'
A Trainer can carry a maximum of 9 Pokemon with them, though they can only use 6 of them in official battles and these Pokemon have to be declared to the referee prior to a official battle. Whereas a Coordinator can carry only 6 Pokemon with them, and a Civilian only 2. Despite this it is advised that a person only carry Pokemon that they can provide for and take care of rather than just filling their teams without having the financial situation of taking care of them. The Trainers can also not catch anymore Pokemon without having a designated private property for them to be transported to. Going against this law will send you to jail for 3 years and the extra pokemon becoming free.
Though, this doesn't apply if you're in an emergency and want to save the life of a wild pokemon who has been severely injured and there is no medical facility nearby.
'Though if the recent news are any indication there is currently a small minority that's protesting for the carry limit to be more equalized between the Trainers and Coordinators.' I thought as I wrote down my answer.
Eh, it didn't really matter. These types of laws usually take a long time to even come into effect let alone pass the parliament.
Yes, there is a Parliament here too. But it's much more straightforward as only the Champion, Elite Four, Gym Leaders, the President of the Pokemon League, Leader Of the Police, Leader of Nurses, and the mayors of all major Cities were allowed on there (believe me that is very straightforward).
Here a "City" functions like a state with towns under their jurisdiction. Celestic Town came under the purview of Veilstone City. Each Town had mayors and above them were the mayors of Cities.
Of course, the Mayors were elected officials and handled day-to-day administration while the Gym Leaders were the face and protected the civilians from disasters, crime syndicates (with the police) and dangerous wild Pokemon.
It was a whole complicated system. If I started to tell you everything we would be here all day. So ignoring that-
My exam was finished. I just looked through it one last time and raised my hand up for the teacher. "Sir? My exam is done."
The teacher overlooking this exam looked like a stereotypical P.E teacher. With bulging muscles and a blue tracksuit. Another thing that made his image more stereotypical was the Medicham that was floating beside him in a sitting position.
He nodded towards me and said. "Make sure you write your name alright? Someone forgot to write it before and now I have to wait for the whole exam to finish writing it." Because the only one that didn't submit the paper would then be that idiot was left unsaid.
"I already have." I handed him the paper and packed my stuff.
"When will the results be out, Sir?" I asked as I was exiting the ballroom.
"A month." He said and I nodded.
So it was done. A decade of effort and hard work.
And now I just had to wait.
It couldn't be that hard right?
Right?!
…
-One Month Later-
Poke. Poke.
I never knew that waiting could ever be so… hard.
Poke. Poke.
"Do you think if we keep poking him he'll eventually react?" Whispered the curious voice of Greg.
Poke. Poke.
"Nah. He's been stuck in this position for the last 6 hours since breakfast. And we've been trying to get a reaction out of him for the last 4." Taylor whispered back.
"Maybe he's dead?" Ask-whispered Bryan as the sound of footsteps reached my ears.
Poke. Poke.
"Let me try something." Said the wise old voice of Granny.
And then-
"Gah-!" I jumped as a bucket full of cold water was thrown upon me.
""Hahahaha!"" Both little gremlins started giggling and ran away from my room.
Pulling the bucket from my head I gritted my teeth. "You guys seriously can't let me rest can you?" I said lying through my teeth about resting.
"Yeah, yeah. Don't be a drama queen." Granny waved away. "Go with Blissey, there's a shortage of milk because of the little ones."
"Fine, fine. I'm going." I said and stood up. "I should probably change my clothes first though."
"Yeah, you do that brat." She said not moving away.
"Do you want something else?" I sighed running a hand through the wet hair.
"Did you go to the Academy yet?" She asked with a quirked eyebrow.
I tilted my head in confusion. "Why would I go to the Academy?"
Then her expression got… amused? Mirthful. "You… You don't remember?" She said not even hiding her chuckles.
"I don't remember what?" I narrowed my eyes.
"Today's the day that the results come out." She said now full on laughing at me.
Comprehension dawns in my eyes. And she continues. "Why do you think that there's no one else your age in the orphanage right now?"
-And I just took off.
"ATLEAST CHANGE YOUR CLOTHES BRAT! HAHAHAHA!" The sound of my shame would forever haunt my ears.
Fuck! How could I be so dumb!?
…
Many people in Celestic Town today were greeted by a strange sight.
A boy, no older than 10, was full-on running for his life. Leaving a trail of dust in his trail. But the weird part was that the kid was drenched, absolutely drenched in water. And not just that, the boy in question was still in his sleeping wear. Wearing some blue Pikachu themed shirt and pajamas.
But the boy, Me, paid them no mind and continued to run like my life depended on it.
And finally I was here. The blue roofed building with white painted walls. It had a bunch of windows and lush green gardens. There were also rocky tennis court size Battlegrounds. But that wasn't the important part.
The important part was the wooden sign near the big steel-bar gates. It was the exam results free for all the world to see.
I stopped just in front of it. The area was mostly desolate now as most of the people that wanted to see their results had already seen them. The only one nearby was the security guard of the school that I had seen last time when I came for the entrance exam.
But I paid him no attention.
My full attention was on the top of the wooden board. Above every other name written on the list.
At the words and the picture of a handsome tanned black-haired boy pasted there.
Entrance Exams Scores- Year 350
1. Justin Autumn - 99.5/100 - First Division
I read no other words. No other sounds registered to my ears.
Only one thought was running through my mind.
I did it.
For a moment I just dumbly stood there. Staring up at the board.
I did it?
Then it finally registered to me.
I DID IT!
"I DID IT! YEAHHHHHH!" I screamed out in joy, happiness, euphoria.
I'm sure there were even some tears. You can't confirm it though because I was already drenched. First from the bucket of water, and then from the sweat of sprinting here.
"WOOOHOOOO!" My happiness knew no bounds.
It had been difficult. Living with dyslexia. I never knew they had it that hard. I mean I knew it, I just couldn't imagine.
But now… I really had respect for those guys (which also included me).
Though my moment was interrupted by the security guard that had walked up to me and patted me on the shoulders. "'kay brat! Parties over! You had your moment and now calm down!"
I nodded. "Yeah. Sorry 'bout that. It's just that I came first!" I just couldn't hide my gigantic smile when saying that.
After all, my decade of hard work really paid off.
He raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Is that true?" He then looked towards the board. "Huh. Would you look at that? Congrats kid! Keep working hard!" He pats me and then goes back into his room.
"Thanks mister… Samael?" I read on his shirt. But shrug and start walking back to the orphanage.
Granny only said to buy milk right?
…
""CHEERS!"" Everyone yells out as we click our paper cups.
Since this was an orphanage so there was obviously no alcohol, it was just good 'ol Poke-Cola.
… Yeah. It tastes the same.
And there's Pokepsi too.
-And Mountain Ditto…
Don't ask. It's pink.
Anyways.
Everyone was celebrating. It was all of our birthday in a sense.
Anyone who didn't know their own birthday celebrated it today. The day after the results came out.
Also fun fact! For those of us who didn't have any surnames, we either decided one for ourselves or in the case where you were too young to do so your surname was decided based on what season you arrived at the orphanage.
That's why my surname was Autumn because that is the season when my shitty mother gave me up.
Leaving that aside.
We annually held a big celebration for all the children in the orphanage. The bakery in town was also kind enough to give us a discount on the big cake. And the fast food restaurant was kind enough to provide the big order at a cheap price.
It was always a lively affair.
Still, the excitement of finally accomplishing my goal was still running high.
I could just imagine taking on the Elite Four and the Champion with my epic Charizard (because what kid didn't love Charizard).
Next month the school year will start and finally my Journey will start!
-Not! Because of the fucking system of favouritism I was delayed by a whole 5 years!
Thwack!
"Are you still thinking about the sponsor system brat?" Calmly asks Granny as if she hadn't just slapped me over my head.
"How did you know?" My eyes twitch in embarrassment as I asked and rubbed my head.
"You just get this brooding and irritated look on your face whenever you think about it." Charlie said from beside me while sipping his Mountain Ditto with a straw.
"Yep!" Granny nodded too.
I put my hands on my face in faux-dismay. "Am I really that easy to read?!"
"Yeah." "Uh-huh" "Yep!" Came the chorus of replies.
"Ugh!" I slumped over. "Emotional damage minus 100 HP."
Florence giggled at my antics from besides Granny.
"Hey guys?" Taylor said, walking towards us. "It's time for the cake cutting."
"Oh! Is it already?" I said standing up and stretching.
I really wouldn't give this up for the world. I thought as I looked around at everyone happily singing the birthday song as Granny cuts the cake for all of us.
And while my first goal was complete. I still had a long and hard journey ahead of me for me to become the Strongest.
…
-Celestic Trainer Academy, Celestic Town-
-March, Year 350 AD-
Man, I was super early. I think to myself as I enter the Academy, waving back towards the security guard. Seriously! Where is everybody?
And this uniform isn't helping matters. Seriously, it was 2 sizes too big for me. But eh, sometimes you've gotta live with what you have. It was the uniform of an older student and as it didn't fit him anymore, he was kind enough to pass it onto me.
And Brendan was still sleeping! I huffed in amusement. I had tried to wake him up but the boy had rebuffed me.
Let's see how he likes the bucket-of-cold-water treatment.
Oh! There is somebody! I thought as my eyes met with an glasses wearing older boy that was in an immaculate Academy uniform, he was also wearing a golden band on his left sleeve.
"Hello there!" He said walking up to me. Though, I had to stifle the urge of replying with 'General Kenobi!' as I didn't want to give a bad first impression.
So I just settled for a casual. "Hey!"
He looked me from up and down and nodded. "You're a first year aren't you?"
I nodded looking up at him. "Yup!" Man… when will my height increase?
Seriously, I was tired of having to call an older person when I wanted something from an upper shelf.
Being short sucked. Good thing I drink a bunch of Moo-Moo Milk, if their good enough to heal your HP, then they're probably good enough to increase your growth a little too right?
He smiled and introduced himself. "My name is Hugh Darius. And I'm the Student Council President of Celestic Trainer Academy!"
"And I'm Justin Autumn! Nice to meet you!" I said with a forwarded hand.
"Nice to meet you too!" He nodded, shaking my hand. Then he put on an inquisitive expression. "You wouldn't happen to be the same Justin that came first on the entrance exams right?"
"Yep! That's me." I said with a smile. What a polite and friendly dude.
Not gonna lie, some of Granny's habits have been passed down to me. Like if I meet a person who is polite and gentleman-ly then I have a better first impression of them.
"You have a speech prepared right?" He asked me and I froze. His jaw dropped, noticing it. "You didn't!?"
"I'm just finding out about this." I smiled sheepishly.
He sighed. "Well, you're fortunate that you were here early so you have some time to think about it."
"Can't I just not? I mean can't I just not give a speech?" I asked in trepidation. It was another thing being confident in front of kids you literally grew up with.
And it was another to be the same in front of hundreds of strangers.
"Unfortunately, it is tradition. So yeah, you'll have to think of something. Even if it's super basic."
"I guess." I sighed. "Thanks Pres, I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't know about it."
He nodded in understanding. "You should probably get going." He pointed back at the gymnasium type building. "The entrance ceremony will happen there, you can wait in the backstages. Just show the guys there your ID card and tell them you're the student representative they will let you pass."
I nodded back. "Thanks Pres. See you later." I waved back as I started walking.
…
I don't know how long it took me to come up with something but I did. It was the most basic ass speech ever.
Thus begins the year anew… blah blah blah… We are the future of the world… blah blah blah… Hard work… blah blah blah… Thank you.
Yeah… It wasn't very good but speeches were hard.
After a while of waiting backstage, another upperclassmen, a girl with brown hair and brown eyes came to get me as it was soon my time.
I could see the Principal. A middle-aged woman with graying-brown hair wearing a blue coat with white highlights was just finishing her speech. "-and so I would like to welcome the topper of this year's entrance exam, the student representative, Justin Autumn!"
The brown haired girl lightly taps me and whispers. "It's your turn, go!"
It's showtime. I took a deep breath and straightened my shoulders. My eyes looked ahead. And I walked forward.
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
-And I was greeted to the sight of a gymnasium that was filled to the brim with students, teachers and almost every person that worked here.
I absentmindedly shaked hands with the Principal and she said something. I didn't really know what. My eyes were fixed on the sight.
I know they weren't, but for a single absolute moment it felt like all of them were cheering for me.
If this is what it feels like for just a school to cheer and not even for me, then what would it feel like standing in the arena while fighting the Champion? I swallowed.
I didn't notice the bright smile of excitement plastered on my face.
I didn't notice how my body, my eyes, my whole image exudes confidence.
My attention was solely fixed upon that dream where I was standing in front of the Champion with a Battleground between us.
I was tapped out of my dreams (delusions) when the clapping stopped. Wearing the same confident smile, I walked up the podium and tapped the mic.
"Good morning students of Celestic Academy!" I said with a smile. "My name is Justin Autumn!"
Then I decided to go off script. I sighed. " You know I had this whole speech planned out. But seeing you guys, I realized that it was just too basic. You guys need something memorable to remember this ceremony by." I shook my head.
And looked up at them. At all of them. And smiled a smile of challenge. "I, Justin Autumn, challenge you all, that I WILL win this year's Two Gods Festival! And none shall come in my way!"
-For a moment, there was just shocked silence. Then there was a pandemonium.
The student council president was panicking.
The students, especially the older ones, were outraged.
The teachers were trying to calm the students down.
And the Principal was laughing in amusement.
"Silence!" I commanded and every eye looked up at me. "Have some decency as the students of this prestigious academy."
And the excited smile was once more on my face. "And if you really want to beat me up or show me my place then you're welcome to give me a challenge at the Two God's festival."
This time I leaned closer to the mic. "I'll be waiting for all of you."
And then I walked backstage. Leaving everybody, except the Principal who was still giggling, speechless.
How's that for a speech huh?

How was that? Though you guys will find out in the next chapter about what the Two God's Festival really is.
