Chapter 5 - CHAPTER 4 — Shadows and Cradlee

The night was quiet at Cross Academy, the kind of stillness that made even the faintest sound seem loud. In their dorm room, far from the prying eyes of both Day and Night Class, Lucas and Jack were busy with something unusual for the pair: three tiny Scaradorable of Gloom Hollow babies.

A Rare Moment of Calm

Lucas cradled one of the small creatures in his hands, golden eyes softened by the moonlight filtering through the window. Its tiny wings fluttered nervously, and Lucas hummed a low, melodic tune, a sound only Scaradorables recognized as soothing.

Jack, usually the unshakable enforcer, crouched beside the other two, gently tucking them under his arm as though they were fragile treasures.

"Wow…" Jack murmured quietly, almost to himself. "I… I never thought I'd…"

Lucas glanced at him, curiosity and warmth shining through his usual calm expression."Thought you'd feel… like a dad?" he finished for him, a teasing lilt in his voice.

Jack's jaw tightened slightly, a faint blush rising. "Maybe… maybe I do," he admitted, not taking his eyes off the babies. His hands were careful, precise, protective — the same care he gave Lucas in battle, now applied to creatures so tiny and fragile.

Lucas smiled softly, placing a hand on Jack's shoulder."You're good at this," he murmured. "Better than I expected."

Tender Moments

Jack's gray eyes flicked to Lucas, still holding a Scaradorable that had climbed up his arm and nuzzled his chest."Does it… look like I know what I'm doing?" he asked, voice quiet, almost vulnerable.

Lucas leaned closer, brushing a stray lock of hair from Jack's forehead."You make it look natural," he said, his golden eyes locked on Jack's. Then, almost instinctively, he pressed his lips to Jack's in a gentle kiss — soft, fleeting, but full of gratitude and affection.

Jack's hand stilled on the baby, and he felt warmth spread through him."You… you didn't have to…" he whispered.

"I wanted to," Lucas replied simply, smiling. "For helping me take care of them."

The Scaradorable babies chirped happily, seemingly sensing the quiet bond between the two.

Preparing for Departure

After a few more minutes of gentle care — feeding, cooing, and making sure the little ones were comfortable — Lucas carefully lifted all three in his arms.

"They'll be fine," he said, his voice gentle but commanding. "Time to send them back home."

Jack nodded, standing beside him. "I'll go with you. Make sure they get there safely."

Lucas rested his forehead against Jack's shoulder for a brief moment, feeling the steady beat of his lover's heart."Thank you," he whispered.

Jack smiled faintly, ruffling Lucas's hair. "No… thank you, for trusting me with them."

With that, they moved through the shadows of Cross Academy, carrying their tiny charges back to Gloom Hollow, their quiet tenderness contrasting with the ruthless predators they had been in the Night Class halls.

A Quiet Promise

As they disappeared into the night, Lucas whispered softly:"One day… when this mission is over… maybe we can have more moments like this."

Jack's gray eyes softened."We will," he promised. "And I'll be right here. Always."

Above them, the moon watched silently, bathing the academy in silver light, as the two predators-turned-parents walked through the darkness, hand in hand, carrying the future in their arms.
