Harold stayed silent after hearing my words. He just gave me that knowing smile that seemed strangely hurt.
I said nothing back.
I wondered, 'What's with that wounded expression? Don't think those puppy-dog eyes will make me feel guilty. I-'
"Let me buy you a late-night meal after this," I offered.
Harold moved closer and asked in that deep, magnetic voice of his, "You're paying?"
I let out a sigh. "Yes, I'm paying."
I'd been caught red-handed already. What choice did I have?
Only then did Harold's smile return. "Fine. Bring your two friends along too."
My eyes drifted downward slightly. My lashes hid the caution that flickered in my gaze. "Okay."
To the shocked spectators, Harold—the famously unreachable heir—sat side by side with a young woman, murmuring like lovers. That sight alone was enough to stun everyone in attendance.
