Chapter 1: The Loner From Another World

Rain drummed against the roofs of Seoul like a thousand restless spirits searching for a place to haunt. The night sky was a dark, ink-black void, smeared with neon lights and the hum of distant traffic. People hurried by with umbrellas, shoulders hunched, faces masked by shadows and rain.

But one boy wasn't moving with the current of the world.

He stood still—too still.

Kai Han, barely twelve, stood beneath the flickering signboard of an abandoned antique library. The glow of the dying neon light cast harsh shadows across his face, illuminating sharp eyes that held an unnatural intelligence. Those who saw him often whispered that he had the gaze of an old man trapped inside a child's body.

He didn't disagree.

Kai was what people feared: a genius with no interest in blending in.

Loner. Outcast. Quiet shadow.

But warm-hearted in ways no one ever noticed.

A faint vibration hummed through the cold night air. Kai sensed it instantly.

"Again tonight…" he murmured, pulling a soaked strand of hair away from his forehead. His voice was calm, unnervingly mature. "This world keeps getting stranger."

He slipped a hand into his coat pocket and took out a small notebook. Every page was filled with complex diagrams, magical formulas, and arcane sketches—none of which should exist in this world.

Or so he thought.

---

The Strange Threads

Golden sparks drifted around him like tiny fireflies, dancing through the rain without being extinguished. They gathered near his feet, swirling like a small vortex, tugging at something deep inside his soul.

Kai lowered his notebook.

"…Aether threads," he whispered. "Again."

They had appeared to him countless times—silent, glowing strands of something otherworldly. He had chased them for months, feeling as if they were calling for him. Asking him to follow.

Tonight, they were especially bright. Almost desperate.

Kai exhaled softly. "Alright. Lead the way."

He followed them deeper into the alley, footsteps silent in the rain. The city lights behind him grew dimmer. The sound of traffic faded. The golden threads pulled him forward like destiny tugging on an invisible string.

He didn't hesitate.

Kai had never been scared of the unknown.

He had always been scared of being ordinary.

---

The House No One Else Could See

The alley twisted like a maze until it ended at something impossible—a towering, ancient house wedged between two modern buildings, though it clearly didn't belong. Its wooden walls were cracked with age, the roof sagging, windows dusty yet glowing faintly.

He'd passed this alley hundreds of times. The house had never been here.

Kai stepped closer, and the golden sparks vanished—absorbed into the front door.

"Well," he said with a faint smirk, "this is new."

He pushed the door.

It opened instantly.

A warm light spilled out, glowing softly like a heartbeat.

Inside, the air smelled like incense and old parchment. Shelves of books stretched toward the ceiling. Strange relics and tools lined tables—floating crystals, runic stones, silver brushes with no bristles, quills that moved as if breathing.

Kai stepped inside, eyes widening despite his usual calm demeanor.

"I see…" His voice softened. "So this is why I always felt out of place in that world."

Because another world had been waiting for him.

---

The Voice Beyond the Void

As Kai walked deeper into the house, a voice echoed around him—smooth, ancient, genderless.

"Welcome, Child of the Aether."

Kai didn't flinch. "You're the one who's been calling me."

"Indeed."

"Why me?"

"Because you were born with a fractured soul. One part in the mortal world… the other trapped in this realm for centuries."

Kai raised a brow. "That's a dramatic way of saying I'm different."

"You are more than different," the voice corrected gently.

"You were destined for magic."

Kai's heart thumped once—quiet but real. He had always felt something missing, as if his mind operated in frequencies no one else could hear. Now he knew why.

"Then tell me," he asked.

"What is this place?"

"The House of Beginnings," the voice answered. "A space between worlds. The home of the Arcane Exorcists."

Kai blinked. "Exorcists?"

"Yes. Warriors who confront beings of spiritual corruption. Those who wield spells, tools, and creations unheard of."

His eyes sharpened with excitement.

Magic tools. Creation. Forbidden spells.

This… this was the world he had dreamed of.

"But why bring me here?" he asked.

"Because you are the last heir of the Arcane Exorcist line. And the strongest one to ever exist."

Kai's chest tightened—not with fear, but anticipation.

"…I like that."

---

The First Artifact

The center of the room held something extraordinary—a crystalline sphere floating above a pedestal. Runes glowed beneath it, shifting like living ink. Kai approached slowly.

"This orb," the voice said, "contains the legacy of the exorcists. Knowledge of spells, crafting laws, theoretical magic, and everything your past self once created."

Kai touched the orb.

It exploded with light.

Thousands of sigils, diagrams, and memories poured into him like a flood—blueprints of arcane tools, forbidden chants, calculations of mana density, purification seals, exorcist stances, magic engineering theories…

His breathing sharpened.

His heart hammered.

He dropped to one knee as power flooded his veins.

But even then, he smirked.

"…Heh. This is perfect."

Memories whispered: Define mana structure before crafting. Balance spiritual and elemental cores. Exorcism requires both destruction and salvation. You once crafted the 'Aegis of Shadows', child. You can create it again.

Kai stood, eyes glowing faintly blue.

"I can… feel everything. Magic… it's like numbers humming in my blood."

"Yes," the voice whispered proudly.

"You are reborn."

---

A Shadow in Human Form

The light faded. Kai's aura changed completely.

His eyes were colder.

His presence deeper.

Yet the warmth in his heart remained intact.

He looked around the ancient hall.

"So this is my beginning."

"Yes," the voice said. "But your path will be lonely."

Kai chuckled. "I've been alone my whole life. This time… I'll be alone with magic. Seems like an upgrade."

"You may find companions. In time."

"We'll see." He shrugged. "If they can keep up."

The house trembled softly. A door appeared at the far end—a gateway shimmering with blue flame.

"Step through, Kai Han," the voice urged.

"A new world awaits."

Kai took one last look at the notebook he carried—its mortal scribbles now childish compared to the knowledge inside him.

He closed it firmly.

Then he stepped toward the portal.

A warm smile touched his lips—a smile unseen by anyone for many years.

"…Let's see what this new world has for me."

He stepped through.

Light swallowed him whole.

And thus began the tale of the boy who would become the strongest exorcist, the master of arcane tools, and the cool shadow who walked alone in a world of magic.

The world did not know it yet—but its greatest legend had just arrived.
