Chapter 36 - Pushed to the Brink

Undoubtedly, this first dungeon run was an extraordinary experience for Bodoro.

Here, he could feel the intense, imminent sense of crisis and urgency that comes with real combat, yet he also had no need to hold back, allowing him to unleash his full strength without reservation.

But soon, as his Aura dwindled and the defensive and offensive power of the enemies in the Armory continued to rise, he was forced to stop, frustrated and unwilling, in the corridor just outside the boss's chamber.

Damn it! Why am I so weak? Why?!

No! I absolutely cannot fall here! I must become stronger! At the very least, I must keep up with my savior, not become a burden dragging him down!

As long as I can become stronger quickly! I am willing to pay any price!

Blood vitality? Yes! I can burn my own blood vitality as a martial artist!

Nen is a manifestation of spirit and will.

When a person's spirit and will break through their limits, their Nen ability also improves drastically.

So, within just a few minutes, Bodoro swiftly made up his mind and established a Vow and Limitation. The Aura that had been exhausted surged forth once again, even more abundant and powerful than before, tinged with a blood-red hue. He crawled up from the ground, roaring as he charged out once more.

About two or three minutes later, a deafening explosion suddenly erupted from the deepest part of the Armory, causing the ground to tremble slightly.

Standing at the dungeon entrance, Allen sensed all of this and the corners of his mouth curled up slightly as he muttered to himself, "Finally broke through the limits and developed an ability of his own? Humans truly are creatures that never know how great their potential is until they're pushed. It seems that in a few months, Bodoro will become quite a decent Nen user."

Clearly, his dedicated effort to cultivate this martial artist wasn't out of boredom, but rather preparation for future plans.

Specifically, hunting the Phantom Troupe, the Chimera Ant Squadron Leaders, the Royal Guards, and even the Ant King were tasks that absolutely could not be easily accomplished alone.

Let alone Allen now, even Chairman Netero needed to recruit a large number of helpers to hold off the enemy forces, creating a one-on-one situation with the Ant King.

Allen wouldn't make the mistake of being arrogant or underestimating the enemy.

And Bodoro was the backup plan he was preparing for himself, someone who could step up at a critical moment to buy a little time.

In this way, utilizing over twenty hours of outside time, which amounted to roughly eight days inside the dungeon, the two finally concluded their respective training sessions.

Bodoro, having established his Vow and Limitation, now exuded the aura of a strong fighter. He was practically a different person compared to when he entered the dungeon. He had grasped the basics of Ken and Ko, and by combining them with his martial arts, he had developed a tremendously powerful fist technique.

After a simple breakfast and freshening up, the time quickly arrived at 10:00 AM the next day.

Allen stepped onto the ring of the 200th floor of Heavens Arena once again. Looking at Gido across from him, who was draped in a red smock and supported only by a single metal peg for his lower body, Allen spoke with a tone of slight surprise, "You actually didn't choose to run away? That courage really makes me see you in a new light. In return, today I'll let you witness a new ability I've just mastered."

"Run? Where do you think I can run to in this state if I lose my Nen ability? No! I won't run again this time! Because I, too, have found the same resolve Sadaso had at the very end!"

Accompanied by a shout filled with anger and defiance, Gido instantly released an astonishing amount of Aura.

There was no need to ask; he must have also strengthened his Nen through a Vow and Limitation.

After all, people are pushed to their limits. When the surrounding environment and circumstances become dire enough, they often unleash terrifying potential they didn't dare imagine they possessed.

And that overwhelming battle yesterday was precisely the catalyst that triggered this sudden change.

"Impressive Nen. If only you had realized this sooner. But unfortunately, the contract already signed cannot be voided," Allen sighed slightly.

The moment his voice fell…

The referee presiding over the match immediately raised both hands and shouted loudly, "The match will be decided by points or knockout. No time limit. Begin!"

"Battle Waltz!"

Without another word, Gido unleashed a massive number of tops wrapped in Enhancement Aura.

However, unlike the nuisance-level normal tops in the anime, these tops had a ring of raised, saw-toothed discs on their outer edges.

When spinning at high speed, these saw-teeth acted like chainsaws. Once they made contact, it would instantly result in flesh and blood flying everywhere. A whole arm, or even an entire person, could be sliced in half on the spot.

"Evolved? Now that's a genuine surprise!"

Seeing this highly lethal Nen ability, a look of approval appeared on Allen's face.

As the saying goes, there are no useless abilities, only useless users.

Although Gido was an Enhancer, because he had lost his legs during his 'initiation,' he hadn't developed a massively destructive punch like Gon or Uvogin. Instead, he chose to enhance the rotational speed of tops, using them to protect himself while attacking the enemy.

Especially in a place like Heavens Arena, where the ring size was very limited, applying simple Manipulation Nen commands to the tops could achieve very effective results.

Now, with the ordinary tops replaced by these specially made saw-toothed ones, the entire ring instantly turned into a terrifying meat grinder.

Even more frightening was that the rotational cutting damage was different from a single impact; it would continuously whittle away the target's Ken defense while disrupting the rhythm of their Ryu during offense-defense transitions.

Perhaps... the only flaw was the speed.

Realizing the nature of Gido's Nen ability, Allen's mind raced, and within seconds, he thought of several better development directions.

However, his hands didn't stop. While effortlessly dodging the tops coming from all directions, he unleashed Sadaso's "Invisible Left Arm."

Instantly…

A large hand, shimmering with golden light, suddenly appeared out of thin air and grabbed directly at Gido's location.

"What?!!"

Seeing this all-too-familiar ability, Gido's face changed drastically. He immediately used his top-like metal limb to spin at high speed.

Tornado Top!

This was a defensive Nen ability he had developed to counter his slow movement speed.

Simply put, he made himself spin as well, using the ring-shaped Aura field generated by centrifugal force to block enemy attacks.

Under the enhancement of his Vow and Limitation, this field could achieve a defensive effect similar to Ken using very little Aura. He could even move forward, backward, left, or right to ram the target, a move that integrated both offense and defense.

Just as the large golden hand was about to collide with the high-speed spinning Gido, it suddenly turned into colorless, transparent Aura and vanished.

The next second...

The large hand burrowed out directly from beneath the ring, clenched into a fist, and smashed viciously into the top-like metal prosthetic on the opponent's lower body.

Boom!

There were no surprises.

Losing his point of balance, Gido instantly toppled headfirst onto the ground, making intimate contact with the hard stone slabs of the ring.

Before he could use the cane in his hand to prop himself up again, the large hand activated its teleportation ability, appearing right beside him and gripping him tightly in its palm.

"Using Aura to enhance rotation is indeed a good idea, but you shouldn't use tops—tools that are easily restricted by terrain and move too slowly. If I were you, I would have chosen some specially made throwing weapons or projectiles. That way, simply throwing them could pose a huge threat to the opponent. Concede! That way, I can spare your life," Allen proposed, flashing to his side.

"Concede? And lose this power I paid such a huge price to obtain? No! Never! I'd rather die!" Gido refused without hesitation.

The expression on his face was so resolute; clearly, he had already made his decision.

"In that case, I'll give you a quick death."

With that, Allen raised his hand and made a crushing motion.
