Chapter 1 - Prologue

The blue light of the monitor cut through the darkness of the messy bedroom.

"No... no, no, no!"

Satou Ryou slammed his hands onto his desk. He stared at the leaked panel on a forum thread, eyes burning with betrayal. "They killed him," Ryou whispered. "They actually killed Choso. He finally found his place, and they just..."

He slumped back into his gaming chair. "Gege, when I catch you, it's on sight."

Ryou Satou was seventeen and exceptional only in his devotion to Jujutsu Kaisen. Specifically, to the Death Painting Womb, Choso. He loved the tragedy, the loyalty, the blood manipulation.

"I need sugar," he muttered, standing up. "I can't process this tragedy on an empty stomach."

He grabbed his hoodie and slipped into the cool night air. The convenience store was only a block away. He walked with his head down, scrolling through Reddit threads on his phone.

'He died protecting his brother,' one comment read.

"Damn right he was," Ryou mumbled, stepping off the curb.

He didn't hear the tires until the asphalt vibrated. He looked up. Twin suns manifested in the dark street—a truck.

You're kidding me, Ryou thought. I'm just buying snacks.

Impact. Pain, then nothing.

Ryou expected fire or pearly gates. He didn't expect to be a floating sphere in a gray mist.

"Ah, there you are. Sorry, the paperwork is a nightmare."

A voice boomed. The mist parted, revealing a being of shifting light.

"God?" Ryou projected.

"Yes. Or ROB, if you prefer the web novel terminology. I am God," the entity replied, sounding tired. "Look, Ryou. We messed up. That truck driver fell asleep. He was supposed to hit a corrupt politician three minutes later. You were an unscheduled casualty."

"I died because he was early?" Ryou felt a flare of indignation. "I didn't even get to see the end of the manga!"

"I know. It's a tragedy. But," God waved a hand, and a massive wheel appeared. "Standard compensation. New life. New world."

Ryou's soul flickered. "Do I get to choose?"

"No. The Wheel decides."

God spun the wheel. It blurred into a rainbow disc. Ryou held his metaphysical breath.

Please not Berserk! Or Warhammer, or Boku no Pico!

The needle slowed and landed on yellow.

MY HERO ACADEMIA.

"MHA," Ryou mused. "Quirks. Heroes. I can work with this, even though I don't know a whole lot about it."

"Excellent," God said. "Now, for your starter pack. Since we cut your life short during emotional distress regarding a fictional character, the System suggests a thematic compensation."

A holographic card appeared: Choso Template.

Ryou vibrated with excitement. "Blood Manipulation? Piercing Blood?"

"Eventually. You start at 0%. You have to train to unlock the abilities. It's a progression system."

Ryou processed this. Fair enough. But then, a cold realization struck him.

"Wait," Ryou projected seriously. "MHA has All For One."

"Indeed. The power thief."

"He steals quirks," Ryou said, his voice calculating. "I'm not grinding to 100% just to be a battery for a villain. Or have Monoma copy me."

God paused. "A valid concern. What do you want?"

"Exclusivity. My power is mine. It cannot be stolen, copied, erased, or suppressed. It is biological sorcery, not a Quirk."

God hummed. "A bit overpowered to bypass Erasure, but considering the truck incident... I'll allow it. Your power is Soul-Bound. All For One can't touch it."

"Deal," Ryou said.

"Then off you go. Good luck, Itadori Choso."

"Wait, Itadori is my last na—"

The void collapsed.

✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦

The sensation was awful—heavy, wet, and tight. Pressure crushed him, then suddenly gave way to cold air.

"WAAAAAAH!"

The sound tore from his throat. He was alive.

"It's a boy! Congratulations, Mrs. Itadori."

Ryou—no, Choso—felt himself being wrapped in a towel. His vision was blurry, his brain foggy.

"Let me see him," a gentle voice said.

He was lowered into warm arms. He forced his eyes open to see a woman with soft features smiling down at him.

"He's so small," she whispered.

A man leaned over. "He's pale. And look at that messy hair."

Ryou saw a tiny fist enter his vision. I made it, he thought, exhaustion dragging him down.

"What should we name him?" the father asked.

The mother smiled. "Choso. Itadori Choso."

The baby let out a soft coo, and sleep finally claimed him.
