MAEVE
It was midnight, and the sky is filled with brightly lit stars. The ocean reflects the beautiful scene, looking as if you can scoop the shining stars with your hand if you just fip your hand in the water.
It was so mesmerizing that I couldn't help but touch it, creating a small ripple in the water. Then, when the ripple subsided, I saw myself.
My skin is so pale and I look like I don't have blood in my body—I know I do though, I can feel my pulse. My crystal-like blue eyes are hidden behind my long golden hair. Every inch of my face looked perfectly carved, like a little porcelain doll.
Honestly, I look very ethereal, but the more you stare the more you'll feel an unsettling feeling. Like a monster lurking and watching you, waiting for you to lower your guard and snap your neck with a chop.
I'm still not used with my face! I got scared by my own reflection I can't help but 'stomp my feet'.
The water below me splashed me in the face! Only then did I remember that I no longer have legs for my lower body, but a silver and gold fishtail.
'I am now a mermaid.'
Which is ironic because I died from drowning.
As for why I drowned? It's actually pretty simple. I went on this cruise ship with my parents, there was an important party they needed to attend and they decided to drag me along.
'You've been cooped up inside your room for too long.' they said.
And so the party began. Unexpectedly, Terrorist infiltrated the cruise. There's a lot of wealthy and influencial people here afterall. There was a huge panic and I was accidentally pushed off of deck and into the water, along with other people.
I can swim but the waves is too strong and it was dark and cold. Soon, I felt my body freezing up and losing its strength.
The only thing in my mind as I sank under the water is the bright full moon and how sad my parents must've been once they realize I'm gone.
And then, I'm here.
"I'm hungry..." I said to myself while looking at the fishes swimming around me. I grind my teeth in frustration—I have been swimming around trying to catch a fish but I cannot even grab an inch of their tails!
I am still getting used with my tail and I think I am not doing a great job. 'To be fair, I was once a human, okay?' I tried to comfort myself.
I think if it wasn't for my mermaid physique, I would've been dead weeks ago.
I went to the surface when I heard some noise. I hid behind a huge rock and saw a creature I have never seen before.
They stood very tall—almost as tall as the trees around them. Their skin color is a beautiful shade of purple, almost looking like the characters from The Avatar. The only difference is their skin.
I didn't dare show myself and stayed behind the rock, afraid that they'll show malice as soon as they see me. Afterall, who wouldn't be afraid of creatures you haven't seen yet? Even humans are afraid of little cockroaches, no matter if its moving or not.
"Better safe than sorry—" Just then, an unknown object rolls out from one of their backpacks and into the water. I was far away but I can see it with my mermaid eyesight. It looked like an apple!
I hurriedly went under the water and swam carefully, not a ripple can be seen on the surface of the water nor a sound can be heard.
Soon, without alerting the creatures above the land, I was able snag a fruit from them and returned to the huge rock. Happily munching on the food I got.
"This apple tastes so good!" I cheered to myself, head swaying side by side in excitement. Anyways, they can't hear me under the water.
....
'hehehehe'
I giggled and stole another one of their apples, this is the fifth time already!
'They are kinda dumb...' I swam away, in case they finally realized how much of their apples they've lost. I went back to my cave and laid down my 'bed' made of seaweeds.
Surprisingly, after just 5 apples I feel full already! I rearrange the seaweeds in my bed before laying down and taking a nap.
'I still need to practice hunting tomorrow!'
