Chapter 81 - Late-Night Pursuit

Zhang San lowered his head, his voice carrying a trace of regret. "Actually, it was all fake. We deliberately lost money, then took the chance to make trouble, claiming the teahouse was cheating. We planned it in advance—put on an extremely angry act—just to scare Ailin."

Sun Zhewen snorted coldly. "You really have some nerve."

"Then what about your stakes?" Sun Zhewen continued pressing.

"How could we have that much money? We used practice vouchers for everything." Zhang San's voice grew smaller and smaller.

After interrogating the three of them, Li Qian also learned that Zhao Qiang was the mastermind behind it all, so he immediately went to bring Zhao Qiang back.

When Zhao Qiang was brought to the police station, he still looked arrogant and unconcerned, stubbornly denying any involvement. "Don't wrong a good man. I don't know anything!"

Li Qian sneered. "Zhao Qiang, do you think denying it will let you escape responsibility?"

Zhao Qiang craned his neck and said, "I really don't know what you're talking about. Don't go accusing me!"

However, when he was made to confront Zhang San and the other four, Zhao Qiang's expression gradually turned ugly.

Zhang San glared at Zhao Qiang and said angrily, "Zhao Qiang, at this point you're still not admitting it? You were the one who ordered us to do it!"

The other three also pointed fingers at Zhao Qiang.

Under the prolonged pressure of interrogation, Zhao Qiang's psychological defenses finally collapsed. Like a deflated ball, he drooped his head and admitted in a low voice that he wanted Ailin's teahouse. "I know Ailin is with Fengyun Group—I can't afford to mess with her. But seeing her teahouse business doing so well, I felt unbalanced. I got crooked ideas and hired people from out of town. I just didn't expect to get burned." His eyes were filled with regret and helplessness, sweat rolling down his forehead along his cheeks.

Sun Zhewen sat behind his desk, looking at the dejected Zhao Qiang before him, his emotions mixed. After handling Zhao Qiang's case, he leaned back in his chair and rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on. Because at that moment, Ailin was standing right in front of him.

Ailin said, "Director Sun, give me some face. Let's have dinner together tonight." Her voice carried a hint of coquettishness, her eyes full of expectation.

"No. I have something to do tonight." Sun Zhewen refused without hesitation, avoiding her gaze.

"You're all alone now—what business could you possibly have? Director Sun, just say yes." As she spoke, she walked behind him, her slender fingers lightly brushing his chest, a strong perfume scent emanating from her.

"Watch yourself. This is an office." Sun Zhewen scolded in a low voice, his face turning serious in an instant, brows tightly knit.

"Oh come on, neither of us is married—who's going to say anything? Besides, we've even been in bed together. What's there to be afraid of?" Though she said that, she sensibly withdrew her hand and stepped aside, a trace of embarrassment flashing across her face.

"Another day. I really do have something tonight." Sun Zhewen's tone softened slightly, but his stance remained firm.

"Then fine. I'll come pick you up tomorrow night." Ailin clearly didn't want to give up so easily, her eyes still holding a bit of hope.

"No need. I don't even know what I'll have going on tomorrow night." Sun Zhewen said impatiently.

"Director Sun, how can you be like this? So heartless once you're done." Ailin pouted, displeasure written on her face.

"Alright, you should go. You've been in my office for too long—what does that look like? I didn't even pursue your responsibility for providing a gambling venue in this case. Be more careful in the future." Sun Zhewen waved his hand, signaling her to leave.

"Yes, my fair and impartial Director Sun. Then I'll be going." Ailin snorted lightly, turned around, and walked out of the office. The sound of her high heels gradually faded down the hallway.

Only after finally getting this woman to leave did Li Qian walk in. "Director Sun, these people have been reported directly to the county bureau."

"Let them report. Everything's already been confirmed." Sun Zhewen nodded, his expression serious.

"Alright." Li Qian replied.

"Are the things for tonight ready?" Sun Zhewen asked.

"The night-vision camera and audio pickup equipment are all ready." Li Qian answered.

"Good. I'll go with you tonight—so we can watch each other's backs." Sun Zhewen stood up and straightened his clothes.

"You're going too? Then you'll have to follow my arrangements." Li Qian looked at him in surprise.

"Alright, I'll listen to you." Sun Zhewen agreed without hesitation.

Li Qian went out to report to the county bureau. Sun Zhewen sat alone in the office, lost in thought. He knew tonight's operation was critical—there could be no mistakes.

After a while, Li Qian returned.

"Director Sun, the county bureau is aware now. They'll be coming to take people shortly." Li Qian said.

"Mm, got it." Sun Zhewen stood up. "Let's go over the action plan once more."

"Alright, Director Sun. Our target this time is…" Li Qian explained the plan in detail.

Sun Zhewen listened carefully, occasionally raising questions and offering suggestions.

"By the way, Director Sun, why do you think Ailin keeps clinging to you?" Li Qian suddenly asked.

Sun Zhewen sighed. "I don't know either. Maybe she thinks I can help her. But I can't get too close to her—Fengyun Group isn't shallow water."

"Then you really need to be careful. Don't let her drag you down." Li Qian reminded him.

"Don't worry. I know my limits." Sun Zhewen said firmly.

As night fell, Sun Zhewen and Li Qian set out quietly with their equipment. Along the way, both remained vigilant, hardly saying a word.

After arriving at the drainage dock, they carefully moved through the containers, slowly closing in on the target.

"Director Sun, you guard this side. I'll go take a look over there." Li Qian whispered.

"Alright. Be careful." Sun Zhewen reminded him.

Li Qian silently slipped away, while Sun Zhewen tensely watched the surroundings.

Suddenly, a faint sound was heard.

"Who's there?" Sun Zhewen barked in a low voice.

"It's me, Director Sun. I've found something." Li Qian ran back.

"What is it?" Sun Zhewen asked.

"Two fishing boats have come in from the sea." Li Qian said.

"Should be them arriving." Sun Zhewen said.

Li Qian raised the camera and adjusted the focus.

"They're moving goods down." Li Qian said in surprise.

"Don't act rashly yet. Just film it—get clear shots of the main people if possible." Sun Zhewen said calmly.

"It's Ailin. She's actually involved in smuggling."

"Can you tell what it is?"

"It's all packaged—we can't see. Let's follow them closely in a bit."

The two continued to hide in the darkness, waiting for the perfect moment…
