Chapter 56 - Not Going Home Tonight

"Sun, you're being too modest. We all know you've been working hard and are very capable. This transfer is definitely deserved," Sister Wang said again.

Sun Zhewen scratched his head, feeling a little embarrassed. "Thank you for the compliment, Sister. I'm just doing my job."

At this moment, Xiao Zhang came over playfully, saying, "Sun-ge, don't forget about us colleagues when you get promoted."

Sun Zhewen replied with a smile, "Of course not. Everyone has always taken good care of me. I'm grateful."

"Sun, you'll definitely have more pressure in your new position. You need to be prepared," Sister Wang reminded him with concern.

Sun Zhewen nodded seriously. "I know. Thank you for the reminder, Sister. I will try my best to adapt."

Everyone chatted back and forth. Sun Zhewen responded while thinking about the upcoming handover of his work.

After a while, everyone finally dispersed. Sun Zhewen breathed a sigh of relief and sat down in his chair to organize the work at hand. He wanted to handle everything meticulously, so as not to cause any trouble for his colleagues.

Just as he was hard at work, the phone suddenly rang.

"Hello, is this Sun Zhewen? This is Li Qian," a familiar voice said on the other end.

"Li Qian, what's up?" Sun Zhewen asked.

"I heard you're getting transferred, congratulations!" Li Qian's voice was full of joy.

"Hey, Li Qian, don't jinx it. It's not a done deal yet," Sun Zhewen said helplessly.

"Don't be modest, brother. I knew you'd have your day. Right, after you make it big, don't forget your brother," Li Qian said with a laugh.

"Look at you, do you think I could forget you with our relationship?" Sun Zhewen replied.

After chatting for a few more sentences, Sun Zhewen hung up the phone and went back to work.

Unknowingly, it was already time to finish work. Colleagues left one after another, their footsteps and conversations gradually fading away, and the office slowly became quiet. Sun Zhewen stretched, and his bones made a "crack crack" sound. His body, which had been tense for a long time, finally got a moment's relaxation. He looked at the files arranged on his desk. Those files were neatly placed, each one clearly marked, and he was slightly relieved.

At this moment, the phone screen next to him suddenly lit up. He received a text message, sent by Liu Ruyue: "Are things handled?" A slight smile appeared on Sun Zhewen's lips, and he quickly replied: "Almost done, wait for me a moment."

"I'll take your car later, let's go eat," Liu Ruyue's text message quickly came back.

"Okay, I'll go drive now," Sun Zhewen replied, quickly packed his things, put the pens on the desk into the pen holder, put the laptop into his backpack, and then got up and walked out of the office.

His footsteps echoed in the empty corridor, each step sounding particularly clear. Sun Zhewen quickened his pace and walked towards the parking lot. There were very few cars left in the parking lot. He quickly found his car, unlocked it, got in, sat in the driver's seat, gently closed the door, and adjusted the seat and rearview mirror.

He had just gotten into the car and hadn't had time to fasten his seatbelt when Liu Ruyue arrived. Her figure looked particularly charming in the afterglow of the setting sun. Liu Ruyue opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat, her movements light and elegant. As soon as she got in the car, she put her arm around Sun Zhewen's neck and gave him a kiss, coquettishly saying, "Let's go to Langqiao."

"Aren't you afraid of being seen?" Sun Zhewen was a little surprised.

"Who would see? It's not the end of the work day, everyone's gone," Liu Ruyue gave him a dissatisfied look. "You're just timid."

"Sigh, everyone here is connected, it's hard to manage them," Sun Zhewen sighed helplessly, starting the car. "Work is already such a headache."

"Yeah, there's not much development here. It's good that you're leaving sooner," Liu Ruyue looked at Sun Zhewen. "You'll have better opportunities in a new place."

"I hope so," Sun Zhewen said, slowly driving out of the parking lot. "But in a new environment, everything starts over. I don't know how it will be."

"Don't be afraid, I'm here," Liu Ruyue held Sun Zhewen's hand. "No matter what, I'll support you."

The car was driving smoothly on the road, the setting sun's afterglow shining through the car window onto them.

"Zhewen, can you not go back tonight?" Liu Ruyue's voice broke the brief silence in the car, her eyes filled with a hint of pleading.

"Mmm," Sun Zhewen replied softly, knowing what Liu Ruyue was thinking.

"Great," a smile bloomed on Liu Ruyue's face. "We can enjoy some time together."

"Alright, I'll do as you say." Sun Zhewen looked at Liu Ruyue gently.

"How about we go see a movie after we eat?" Liu Ruyue asked excitedly.

"Sounds good, what do you want to watch?" Sun Zhewen asked.

"Anything, really. As long as I'm with you, it doesn't matter what we see." Liu Ruyue leaned on Sun Zhewen's shoulder, her face full of happiness.

"Okay, you can pick when the time comes." Sun Zhewen smiled.

"By the way, you need to be careful of those people who scheme and plot now that you're in a new workplace." Liu Ruyue suddenly sat up straight and said seriously.

"I know, don't worry." Sun Zhewen nodded.

"And, you should get along well with your superiors, but don't be too obsequious. You need to have your own principles." Liu Ruyue continued to advise him.

"Okay, I understand," Sun Zhewen replied.

"Don't work yourself too hard. Take care of yourself," Liu Ruyue said, her concern evident.

"I know, you're more naggy than my mom," Sun Zhewen said with a laugh.

"Hmph, I'm only doing this for you," Liu Ruyue said, pretending to be angry as she turned her head away.

Sun Zhewen quickly soothed her, "Alright, I know you are looking out for me, don't be mad."

Only then did Liu Ruyue turn her head back, "That's more like it."

In a short while, the car arrived at Langqiao. They got out and walked into the restaurant hand in hand. The lighting in the restaurant was soft and warm, and the music was melodious.

"The environment here is pretty good," Sun Zhewen said, looking around.

"Of course, do you think I'd pick a bad place?" Liu Ruyue smiled complacently.

They found a seat by the window, and the waiter quickly brought the menus.

"You order, I'm easy." Sun Zhewen handed the menu to Liu Ruyue.

Liu Ruyue ordered several dishes and also asked for a bottle of red wine.

"Drinking red wine?" Sun Zhewen asked.

"Yeah, to celebrate." Liu Ruyue winked.

"I really wish time could stop at this moment." Liu Ruyue said.
