Chapter 4 - The Son's Father

Li Zhiyan dragged her tired body home. The moment she opened the door, she saw Liu Qingfeng waiting for her in the living room. A hint of eagerness was on his face. Seeing her, he immediately stood up and went to meet her.

"Baby, you must have had a hard day," Liu Qingfeng said, taking her bag and asking with concern, "How was that person?"

Li Zhiyan took off her coat and hung it on the rack, a hint of weariness showing, but a trace of satisfaction flashed in her eyes. "Could my sister's recommendation be wrong? He works at the Women's Federation. My sister said he was first in the written exam, but someone used underhanded methods to replace him. It was my cousin's husband who did it."

Liu Qingfeng nodded, a look of realization on his face. "Someone from the government is good; they won't dare to speak out of turn." He suddenly leaned closer to Li Zhiyan, a playful glint in his eyes. "Baby, it's been a while since we were intimate. Can we..."

Li Zhiyan immediately blocked his advance with her hand, a look of helplessness on her face. "Don't even think about it. It's only been a month, and the doctor said we can't do that."

Liu Qingfeng immediately put on a wronged expression, like a child who had been treated unfairly. "Oh, my little baby, you're going to make Old Dad suffer."

Li Zhiyan snorted softly, a hint of teasing in her eyes. "Hmph, isn't this all your fault? I told you to use a condom, but you didn't."

Liu Qingfeng immediately put on an innocent expression, spreading his hands. "Oh, my big baby, you're a hero for giving birth to our son. Come and give me a kiss."

Li Zhiyan glared at him, but the corners of her mouth couldn't help but curve upwards. "Ugh, you're annoying. Your daughter doesn't even like me, so I can only sneak around." She gently pushed Liu Qingfeng's hand away. "Stop touching me all over the place, you're making me nervous."

Liu Qingfeng's face was filled with concern. He gently cupped Li Zhiyan's face. "Baby/Darling, I care about you, I love you."

A hint of tenderness flashed in Li Zhiyan's eyes, but then a playful smile appeared. "If we have a daughter, just wait and see your face!"

Liu Qingfeng was taken aback, then burst out laughing. "How long until the doctor can tell us the gender?"

"It'll be four or five months," Li Zhiyan replied, a hint of anticipation in her eyes.

Liu Qingfeng gently stroked Li Zhiyan's belly, his face full of longing. "I really want to know if Baby is a boy or a girl."

Li Zhiyan gently patted his hand, smiling. "You're just a traditionalist." She suddenly remembered something, and a look of smugness appeared on her face. "Right, next week I'm having a simple wedding with Sun Zhewen, so now you're finally happy."

Liu Qingfeng immediately looked satisfied, his eyes full of relief. "I knew Baby could handle it."

The two of them exchanged smiles. Liu Qingfeng gently embraced Li Zhiyan, saying softly, "Baby, whether it's a boy or a girl, I'll love you both."

Li Zhiyan seemed to remember something and said, "Right, I'll have him move in tomorrow. Don't be so handsy when you come here later; it's not a good look."

"Understood. Can we be handsy when we go back to the room?"

Li Zhiyan was left breathless. "Stop it, I hate it. I'm going to change." Liu Qingfeng followed closely behind.

Back at home, Sun Zhewen picked up his phone and hesitated for a moment before deciding to call his father. After the call connected, he tried to make his voice sound casual. "Dad, I'm getting married. Come to my wedding next week. Don't invite anyone else; just the two of you. And don't bring anything. Everything's prepared here."

On the other end of the phone, his father was clearly shocked by the sudden news, his voice filled with deep confusion. "Zhewen, how did you get married? We weren't prepared at all. Where will you have the wedding? What do you need?"

Sun Zhewen suppressed his complex emotions and answered in as calm a tone as possible. "I don't need anything, just your presence. Also, there's no need to inform the relatives. We're in the government, so we need to be careful about everything."

Hearing this, a hint of nervousness crept into his father's voice. "Are you having the wedding in the government? That must be very grand. How can we not inform the relatives?"

Sun Zhewen almost laughed at his father's reaction, but he knew he had to clarify. "Dad, it's not like that. We're keeping things low-key here. Too many people would be a hassle. Just come and relax, don't worry about it."

His father was still uneasy and continued to ask, "So, how exactly is the wedding arranged? Your mother and I can't just go empty-handed."

Sun Zhewen sighed helplessly, thinking that the Old Couple were truly worriers. "Dad, you really don't need to bring anything. Just coming is the biggest support you can give me. Besides, Li Zhiyan's family is well-off; we don't have to worry about anything."

His father finally seemed relieved but still couldn't help but advise, "Alright, since you've arranged everything, we'll listen to you. But remember, marriage is a big deal, don't be careless."

Sun Zhewen nodded, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He understood his father's concerns and his mother's expectations.

This tactic was indeed effective; things immediately got lively on his parents' end. His mother's voice, following his father's, excitedly said, "Then we must invite all the relatives, so everyone can see that our successful son is getting married!"

Sun Zhewen quickly interrupted, "Hey, Mom, don't make a big fuss. Although the wedding is a big deal, don't make it too complicated. Just come yourselves; don't make it too grand."

His mother grumbled with some dissatisfaction, "It's your wedding! How can it be simple? We also need to prepare a lot of Local Products and give some Gift Money to our future daughter-in-law."

Sun Zhewen felt a warmth in his heart, but also a twinge of regret. After hanging up the phone, he was annoyed. He really shouldn't have agreed to a wedding. He also shouldn't have called his parents; they would definitely bring a ton of stuff, putting him under a lot of pressure. He remembered when he was a child, his parents always came to see him with bags and bags of gifts. Those heavy gifts were not only their good intentions, but also their expectations of him. Thinking about this, his mood became even more complicated.

So, he opened WeChat and sent Li Zhiyan a message: "Can we not have the wedding?"

Li Zhiyan quickly replied: "What's wrong?"

Sun Zhewen hesitated for a moment and decided to be honest: "I feel like I'm deceiving my parents, and I feel a little bad about it."

Li Zhiyan's reply was tinged with helplessness: "The wedding has to happen, and your parents must be there. We have to make it look real. Please understand."

Sun Zhewen sighed, still feeling uneasy: "Alright, I'll only let my parents come. They're from the countryside and might do some things that are a bit out there, so please be understanding."
