Chapter 6 - Sneaking Glances

It was official. Someone he had admired since he was a kid had become one of his personal bodyguards, something he never imagined would happen.

Even now that almost three weeks had passed since the official meeting, Savier could still find himself being surprised whenever the reality sank in.

Savier was sitting, his laptop in front of him, and his eyes looking straight at the screen. Most of the time, his mind was always focused on what project he was doing. But now, he could not help his eyes from sneak glances to the side, distracted.

Unconsciously, he bit his lips. In his eyes, the other alpha's figure was reflected. Sir Rylan was sitting in a chair away across from him. The alpha was looking serious, reading a book, seemingly oblivious to the stares and attention he was getting.

The alpha was not wearing his usual royal guard uniform but instead wore a normal black suit, only that he had a security earpiece in his right ear and a small symbol of the royal guard pinned around his chest.

In this place, the imperial college, seeing bodyguards was far too common. However, Rylan's presence, while mild and not dominant, held a refreshing demeanor that gave a good impression, drawing your attention.

Especially now that he seemed approachable but also held you back, not wanting to disturb him.

Like everyone else around them, Savier was feeling the same way. It had been almost two hours since he decided to visit the library to finish the paper due next week.

He preferred to work there rather than in his personal office sometimes, letting the idea flow naturally. Typically, he could be halfway done by now, but compared to that, he had yet to make significant progress.

Savier found it hard to focus for some reason. His mind was always being pulled out on what he was doing, then he was drawn to Sir Rylan. Was he not yet accustomed to his presence?

Perhaps. It had not been a month yet since, after all.

His hands tapped absentmindedly at the space bar without really typing anything. He subtly eyed Sir Rylan before his gaze swept to that behind him, and his eyes narrowed.

For some reason, not liking this kind of attention for Sir Rylan too much. Some noticed his gaze, and all bowed to look away, not daring to look at the crown prince's eyes.

Savier moved slightly, arched his neck in an attempt to stretch. This movement made the alpha focus on reading a book to lift his gaze and look at him.

Clearly, he was still very alert to his surroundings, or more like with Savier's movements. Their gazes then met midair, neither one evading this time.

Savier swallowed the ghost of a giddy smile escaping his lips. He leaned on the backrest after the good stretch. Sir Rylan was still watching him.

"Let's go home," Savier looked at his watch and looked at the time, the start of his act, and looked up as he closed his laptop. "It's almost late."

In fact, it was not his time to go home. Usually, he still lingered on the campus at this time, which was not even 6 pm. Savier knew that Sir Rylan was aware of his schedule, but it just so happened that he really did not have anything today.

Thus, Sir Rylan did not question it and nodded. Maybe from his perspective, it was entirely up to Savie,r and he only needed to follow him. Kind of sad, but for now, Savier was grateful for it.

At least, he did not need to make excuses.

Gathering his things, he prepared to leave. Sir Rylan was also ready to follow and about to return the book he was holding. Savier glanced at the book.

"Sir Rylan?"

Sir Rylan paused. "What is it, Your Highness?"

"Do you want me to borrow that book for you?" Savier thought that he must have liked it since he was so focused on reading it.

Sir Rylan blinked as if confused for a second before his gaze landed on the book he was holding. "This book?" He sounded confused, as if on the verge of asking why, but could not say it directly.

Savier nodded his head and offered his hand.

"I'll borrow that book for you. It looks like you haven't finished it yet."

Though he still seemed not to have processed it, he handed the book to Savier. It was more of not wanting for Savier to offer his hand too long rather than actually confirming he wanted to borrow it.

He only fell silent and followed Savier.

Sir Rylan was always rigid and not one to take any initiative, so Savier was used to this. He only did what he wanted to do. In any case, Sir Rylan was not one to refuse.

Damn, why did it sound like he was taking advantage of Sir Rylan now?

No, he was only wanting for Sir Rylan to finish the book he liked!

After borrowing the book, they immediately leave. Savier did not like to loiter around. He grew up with attention always on him, so he could live with it, but Sir Rylan did not need to be subjected to the same treatment just because he was his personal bodyguard.

And so, that was how Savier justified himself from becoming pissed off all of a sudden.

Arriving at the car, the other guards were also waiting for them there who all looked surprised. Fortunately, not one questioned him. Savier immediately entered the car prepared for him, sitting on the back seat while Sir Rylan was in the driver's seat.

The other three guards were in the car behind them. This was their usual arrangement; unless an unexpected situation arose, it would continue until his graduation.

They set off after his signal. Savier propped his chin on his hand, eyes watching the surroundings they passed. However, he could not concentrate at all.

Why?

He could feel a gaze directly on him, not staying for a second longer but lingering nonetheless. Of course, in this car, only one could be the suspect. And Savier was trying so hard to control himself.

Should he have turned and looked at the driver, who was his idol, Sir Rylan, and then asked why he was sneaking glances at him?

As if he could do that.

Yet as minutes passed, Savier could no longer stop his curiosity. Savier subtly turned his gaze, and his eyes finally met Sir Rylan's through the rearview mirror.
