At that point, Naruto's writing slowed. The plan wasn't simple. The hard part was leaking information without being identified as the source.
Otherwise Orochimaru would come for him—and Hiruzen would suspect him too.
He continued:
[How do I leak Orochimaru's plan without drawing suspicion?]
His pen hovered over the question mark for a long time. Then he wrote a name.
[Hayate Gekkō]
In canon, during the Chūnin Exams, Hayate was killed after overhearing a secret conversation between Kabuto Yakushi and the Sand's Baki. His death didn't draw enough ANBU attention, and the Konoha Crush plan proceeded smoothly.
[Hayate's death can serve as evidence that Orochimaru is plotting to destroy Konoha. The problem is: how do I use that fact to achieve my goal?
If I save Hayate, he might expose the Sand's conspiracy outright. Once the plot is confirmed, won't it just turn into open war immediately?
But how would I even save Hayate? My Flying Thunder God isn't fluent yet. And I'd have to teleport to Hayate, then take him away—risking exposure.
And I'd have to know the exact time and place of the attack in advance. And right now, Hayate might already be dead…
No. This line of thinking is wrong.]
Naruto set down his pen and rubbed his aching temples, emptying his mind for a moment.
One minute later—
"Hm? Got it!"
He grabbed the pen again.
[I don't need to save Hayate Gekkō. I just need ANBU to suspect that Hayate's death was the Sand's doing. Yes—suspect.
A slam-dunk means evidence is airtight. But suspicion is what forces people to waste manpower and resources investigating. So what I need is to build a chain of doubt and create chaos.
That way ANBU will have to allocate people to investigate Hayate's death.
This also makes me think of someone: Yuugao Uzuki. As Hayate's partner, she has a natural drive to pursue his killer.
Use her as the entry point to spread rumors and create confusion. Once ANBU's attention is pulled apart, I seize the chance to kill Seisen and erase the risk.]
After writing that, Naruto reread everything from start to finish. Once satisfied, he tore the pages out and burned them all with matches.
"This plan isn't airtight," he murmured, "but it's simple. The only key person I truly need to approach is Yuugao."
As for how to make contact with Yuugao, he already had a candidate:
Anko Mitarashi.
He immediately took out the little snake and sent a voice message into it. "Is Anko there? Respond if you receive this."
A while passed. The snake didn't react at all.
"What the hell? Is this snake broken?" Naruto laid it flat in his palm and examined it closely. The little white snake lazily flicked its tongue, its slit pupils drowsy—completely comfortable being stared at.
"No way. I've been feeding you well this whole time…" Naruto cleared his throat and raised his voice. "Anko, are you there? If you are, say something. It's urgent."
Still nothing.
"Anko Anko Anko Anko Anko Anko Anko…" Naruto began to repeat her name nonstop, to the point that even the snake looked fed up.
About half a minute later, the snake finally transmitted the voice of a mature woman:
"What is it… I've got a lot going on lately. It's not convenient to talk."
"Oh?" Naruto kept his expression neutral and spoke into the snake. "Eight tonight. Training ground. I have something important to tell you."
He didn't trust saying anything crucial through the snake—who knew who might be listening.
But the woman on the other end hesitated. "Mm… I really am busy lately. Why don't you just say it now? There's no one nearby."
"No." Naruto's tone hardened as he repeated himself. "Eight tonight. Training ground."
At the same time, suspicion surfaced in his mind. Important things? Did Hayate die last night?
The line stayed silent for a long time before Anko's troubled voice returned. "Listen. I've already helped you a lot. We should be even by now… You—you shouldn't keep bothering me."
Naruto froze.
Why did this sound like the vibe of getting rejected after confessing to a girl?!
He didn't speak for a moment—then he let out a humorless laugh.
Unbelievable. You think I'm harassing you for fun? You confidently-average woman…
Naruto's voice turned colder, more forceful. "Heh. Try not coming tonight, then see what the consequences are."
The voice on the other end grew anxious too. "Don't do that. I already did what you asked. What more do you want from me?"
It's not like I ate you… Naruto snorted. He made it clear that if she didn't come, he would absolutely "talk" around Hiruzen and remind her that he was now someone favored at the Hokage's side.
It wasn't that Naruto wanted to play the homewrecker—he just had to be ruthless now. Otherwise the one who'd lose would be him.
He cut the connection and slipped the snake back into his pocket.
His brows didn't relax.
Now he had to think about what stance he'd take tonight to force Anko to cooperate.
To be fair, their transaction had ended. Unless Naruto could offer her more benefits, there was no reason for them to keep interacting.
One hurdle after another, huh?
But he couldn't offer Anko any benefits—just like he couldn't offer the Nine-Tails any benefits at the start. He could only use PUA tactics to forcibly extract what he needed.
Wait—PUA?
Naruto suddenly remembered an analysis post he'd seen while browsing forums about Anko's character.
The post argued that Anko and Orochimaru likely shared deeper emotional entanglement beyond teacher and student.
Orochimaru controlled Anko, yes—but during the period he cultivated her, he also gave her basic security and the smallest scraps of warmth. After she was discarded, Anko displayed obvious trauma-trigger reactions—PTSD, in other words.
The "evidence" was her microexpressions during the pursuit of Orochimaru: anger at being abandoned, and a desperate desire to prove herself.
Her personality also carried Orochimaru's shadow—yet anything connected to Orochimaru immediately made her weak again, like how she was willing to strike a deal with Naruto just to make him conceal certain facts.
With that in mind, it wasn't hard to see how to make Anko obedient.
Use her psychological state as leverage.
Naruto sighed softly.
"It's a bit evil," he murmured, "but this came out of nowhere. I don't have many choices. If you refuse to listen… the one who gets eliminated will be me."
In his room, he created a shadow clone to continue training new techniques—while he waited for night to fall.
A disobedient Anko needed to be taught a lesson.
