Chapter 47 - Chapter 49: Kamui?!

"Is it a new enemy?" Sasuke, hearing them, walked over.

Naruto lowered his voice, eyes hard. "Behind you."

Sasuke spun—and Naruto seized the opening, chopping Sasuke's neck. Sasuke collapsed instantly.

"Forgive me, Sasuke. Just this once more."

Naruto caught him and laid him flat.

Sakura hadn't expected Naruto to strike Sasuke first. She frowned, startled. "What was that?"

"She's really here. And this has to stay secret from Sasuke." Naruto gestured for Sakura to turn.

A figure emerged slowly from the depth of the trees.

Black hair tied into a ponytail. Clothes in disarray. Skin pale. Breathing ragged. In her eyes: violence, confusion, grievance, exhaustion all tangled together.

Kin Tsuchi stared at Naruto, expression complicated. "How did you find me?"

"Strictly speaking, I didn't. The Nine-Tails in me smelled a surge of hatred and tried to push me into handing my mind over to it so I'd kill you."

What Naruto didn't say was how he'd wrestled with Kurama in his mental world to keep his reason intact.

"Is that so?" Kin looked momentarily enlightened. Then she clutched her head again, face twisting in agony.

"Listen—transmigration is a complete—HAHAHA—there are clues in my pocket, you can—huff huff—HAHA—"

She was lucid one second, crazed the next. Sentences splintered. She looked like a mind about to fly apart.

Naruto and Sakura instinctively took two steps back. Sakura slid a hand behind her waist, fingers closing around a kunai.

Naruto's whole body screamed Kill her. Kill her. Kill her. His cells were chanting it. His reason forced another plea: Listen first. Get information. Don't rush into a repeat of "transmigrator appears → erase them."

If they played this like a loop, sooner or later they'd step on a landmine. Even if they lived, they might expose themselves and draw ANBU attention.

Naruto forced down his killing intent, softened his voice, and said, "Calm down. Tell us what clue you have."

Kin didn't seem to hear. She leaned against a tree, hand over one eye, gasping.

Sakura kept flicking Naruto urgent looks. If they were going to silence her, this was the best moment.

"Should we do it, Naruto?" she whispered.

"Wait."

Naruto stepped forward two paces, kunai hidden behind his back. "Are you… okay?"

His heart was pounding hard enough to hurt.

Kin finally responded, her gaze clearing slightly. She lowered her head and wheezed, "Sorry. The clue is here… in my pocket… huff…"

She pointed weakly to her jacket, signaling Naruto to take it.

Naruto's alarm bells exploded. He turned to Sakura; she shook her head too.

"Throw it to me," Naruto said, holding out his left hand.

Kin shook her head slowly. "Don't touch it… come closer…"

Her face was slick with sweat. Veins pulsed on her forehead like little snakes. The sight was chilling.

"How close?"

"Closer."

"How many steps?"

"Two or three."

"How long per step?"

"…?"

Kin looked up in bafflement. Naruto was staring at her with total seriousness, zero mockery.

He went on blandly, "Fifty centimeters? A meter? Everyone's stride is different. With my height, one step's not even a full meter…"

Kin's eyes glazed. Her head throbbed. Annoyance bled through her pain.

What is he even talking about?!

Ringing filled her ears. The world blurred. Naruto's voice became distant, until she only saw his mouth moving like a goldfish blowing bubbles.

Her consciousness wavered.

Bang!

Two bodies erupted from the earth on her left and right, grabbing for her arms.

"Shadow Clones…" her mind registered dimly.

Naruto had planted two clones underground ahead of time. While he distracted her, they burst up and seized her arms.

Not killing her, but capturing her alive—his best possible option.

But at the instant they were about to secure her, Kin hooked her finger.

A crisp bell chimed.

The clones froze for a heartbeat.

Kin's pain vanished. Her eyes sharpened into sly amusement.

"Almost got you," she giggled. "Hee-hee."

She snapped into motion, kicking the right clone apart and letting mania flood her again.

"So you're done acting?" Naruto leapt back, eyes locked on her pocket. It bulged slightly—there was something there.

At the same time a question flared in him: why was she so sure she could "catch" him? Just from a sloppy performance?

Before he could think it through, Kin flicked her thumb.

A storm of kunai whipped out of the forest toward Sakura and Sasuke.

Sakura stayed cool. "Water Style: Water Formation Wall!"

Boom! Moisture condensed into a swirling barrier that wrapped Sakura and Sasuke. Kunai clattered off harmlessly.

Naruto stopped holding back. Nine-Tails chakra surged over him. Killing intent rolled off his presence in waves.

A purple Rasengan spun into being in his right hand. Chakra wings flared behind him. He met Kin's flying kick head-on.

WHAM!

The kick blasted Naruto backward five meters, dizzying him.

But his Nine-Tails Rasengan was complete. He extended the chakra and slammed it at Kin.

In that razor-thin instant, Kin froze.

BOOOOM!

The Rasengan struck her abdomen dead center and detonated.

Red-purple chakra—sharp as scalpels—tore everything around her. Leaves dyed crimson. The air itself tasted like blood.

Naruto's pupils shrank.

Kin, caught in the storm, clutched her pocket to her chest like her life depended on it. Her eyes weren't violent now. A sliver of clarity resurfaced.

When the chakra wind finally faded, she dropped like a ragdoll. Hair snapped loose around her. Clothes shredded. Cuts covered her face and body. Her abdomen was mangled—organs visible in the wreck, blood pouring out.

She wasn't surviving this.

Naruto approached, unsettled.

"Was it really that easy?"

It didn't feel like relief. It felt like deeper confusion.

Why had she hesitated?

Why had she clung to her pocket?

He pried open her fingers.

"Strong grip…" he muttered, peeling back the torn cloth.

Inside lay a jagged fragment—pitch black, dull, and matte.

"This is the clue?" Naruto whispered, looking to Sakura, exasperated.

And right then—

The black fragment erupted with a terrifying suction. Space warped as if crushed by an invisible hand.

A spiral void formed out of nowhere, pulling Naruto's body toward it, twisting him out of shape.

"No—this is… Kamui?!" Sakura screamed.

She sprinted, but Naruto roared at her, "Stay back! Go find—"

He was swallowed by the vortex before he could finish.
