"Gurgle, gurgle…"
Suddenly, the monster's back violently writhed, its clothes tore with a "rip," and a pair of deformed, bat-like fleshy wings pierced through its coat, unfolding behind it!
"Whoosh—!"
The monster flapped its wings, and its tall body instantly shot into the sky, flying dozens of meters high in the blink of an eye.
Diluc's eyes sharpened, his right hand gripped the blackcliff slasher, and blazing flames furiously gathered on the blade.
"Stay."
"Boom—!"
Diluc forcefully threw the blackcliff slasher! The Burning blade transformed into a crimson meteor, instantly piercing through the monster's right wing!
The fleshy wing carbonized and broke in the intense flames, and the monster let out a mournful shriek, plummeting straight down from the sky!
"Bang—!!!"
A crater was smashed into the road, and cracks spread like a spiderweb. The monster lay slumped in the deep pit, its broken fleshy wings twitching.
"Swish—!"
Diluc raised his hand, and the blackcliff slasher drew a scorching trajectory in the air, flying back into his palm.
The monster struggled, very laboriously crawling towards the rusty truck.
"Clatter—!"
Inside the truck bed, more than a dozen bodies wrapped in White cloth lay strewn.
The monster pulled out the nearest one, the White cloth slipped off, revealing a pale young man's face. The young man's eyes were grey and hollow, with dried blood remaining at the corners of his mouth, clearly having been dead for a long time.
"Creak, creak…"
The monster grabbed the young man's corpse, opened its gaping maw, and bit down. Sharp fangs tore open the corpse's throat, and the flesh was roughly and brutally swallowed.
"Gulp, gulp…"
As the flesh entered its stomach, the monster's charred skin began to writhe, and its wounds healed at a visible speed. Fleshy buds sprouted from the base of its broken wings.
"Disgusting thing."
Seeing this, Diluc couldn't help but frown, and the flames on the blackcliff slasher grew more intense.
His figure swept past like a fiery blaze, the blade aimed directly at the monster's head! But the monster reacted extremely quickly, immediately using the corpse as a shield—
"Swish—!"
The blackcliff slasher cut the corpse in half at the waist. Before the internal organs and black blood could flow out, they were already scorched and carbonized by the intense flames.
"Pfft!"
However, the momentum of the blade did not diminish, tearing open a gruesome wound on the monster's chest, from its collarbone down to its waist, almost splitting it in two!
"Roar—!!"
The monster howled in pain and fell to its knees, yet it still frantically grabbed two halves of the corpse and stuffed them into its mouth. As the flesh entered its stomach again, the wounds healed once more, and even its fleshy wings recovered seventy percent.
But it didn't retaliate; instead, it turned and fled madly! Its incomplete fleshy wings flapped desperately, but only stirred up a Blood Wind, and it could only stumble and stagger towards the depths of the forest.
"Death throes."
Diluc held the blade with one hand, and the blazing Fire element boiled on the blade. After reaching a certain threshold, he swung the blade, striking across the air!
"Rumble—!"
In an instant, a crimson wave of Fire tore through the night sky, distorting the air in its path.
The blazing wave of Fire instantly engulfed the monster! In the Boiling flames, its body Melted like wax, its skin rapidly carbonized and peeled off, and its bones burst under the high temperature.
"Roar…"
It only managed to let out a short wail before turning into a pile of charred ashes, scattered by the night wind.
Diluc casually tossed the blackcliff slasher, and the black and red battle blade transformed into a shimmer of light and disappeared.
He turned and walked towards the stunned siblings. Trish's lips were trembling, and Dali stared intently at the pile of ashes, as if afraid they would re-form.
Diluc looked down at them and asked,
"Did you call the Police?"
"My, my phone is broken…"
Dali stammered in response, pointing to the Burning car wreck in the distance.
Hearing this, Diluc frowned slightly, then glanced at the truck by the roadside and said,
"There are many bodies in that truck. You should be able to find a phone on them. Or, you can just drive it away."
As he spoke, he tossed a set of keys.
Trish caught the keys; they felt cold and sticky, as if covered in old bloodstains. She suppressed her nausea, looking at Diluc with hopeful eyes, and asked,
"Then… aren't you coming with us?"
Diluc had already turned and stepped into the shadows, the hem of his trench coat brushing past the last cluster of sparks.
"No need."
As his voice faded, Diluc completely disappeared into the depths of the forest, as if he had never been there.
Trish clutched the blood-stained truck keys and stood by the roadside with Dali, hesitating.
Rummaging through corpses for a phone? Just thinking about it made them sick.
Driving away that truck filled with corpses? Just getting close to it sent shivers down their spines.
"Or… should we try to hitchhike?"
Dali suggested quietly, his eyes constantly darting towards the end of the road.
No sooner had he spoken than headlights appeared in the distance.
A convoy of five black SUVs was heading towards them, their headlights forming a strip of light in the night.
Trish and Dali exchanged glances and immediately rushed to the roadside, desperately waving and shouting,
"Help! Help us!"
But before they could reach the middle of the road, the convoy had already slowed down, stopping neatly by the roadside a dozen meters away from them.
"Click…"
The car doors opened in unison, and a group of fully armed tactical personnel, dressed in uniform black combat gear, quickly exited their vehicles, their gun muzzles scanning the surroundings alertly.
Trish and Dali froze in place, the hope that had just risen instantly replaced by tension.
These people didn't look like ordinary Police!
Just then, a middle-aged man in a black suit stepped out of the leading SUV.
His tall stature, refined demeanor, and receding hairline made him look more like a university Professor than an armed operative.
He raised a hand, signaling his team members to lower their weapons, then walked towards the siblings, pulling a badge from his inner pocket.
"Good evening, both of you. I'm FBI Agent John McCain. What happened here?"
His voice was calm and gentle, easily putting people at ease.
Hearing "FBI," Trish and Dali's tense nerves finally relaxed.
Trish was so excited she was almost in tears, gesticulating wildly as she began to recount the series of events that had happened that night:
"I, I, we were attacked by a monster! It was driving that truck, trying to ram our car, and it wanted to kill us."
Hearing this, Agent John McCain frowned slightly, but his expression remained calm as he asked,
"A monster?"
...After the siblings' account, Agent John McCain had a general understanding of what had happened, and then he said,
"Thank you very much for your cooperation. I will immediately arrange a vehicle to take you back.
Additionally, I need to remind you that tonight's events involve national security. Until the case can be officially released to the public, I hope you will not disclose any details."
With that, he waved over a team member and said,
"Take them to the nearest Police station, and also arrange for a Doctor to give them a check-up."
The siblings exchanged glances and nodded obediently.
They couldn't wait to forget everything about tonight.
After watching the SUV carrying the siblings drive away, McCain's smile instantly vanished.
He quickly walked towards the truck. Two Agents had already pulled open the truck bed doors, and the beams of their flashlights shone inside, illuminating several bodies wrapped in White cloth.
McCain's gaze darkened. He immediately pulled out his phone and dialed an unsaved number.
After the call connected, he only said one sentence:
"BOSS, it's me, Coulson…"
