Jessie, James, and Meowth eventually caught the Seviper.
Meanwhile, Treecko—ashamed of his earlier weakness—slipped away to train at a nearby waterfall.
He wanted power.
And he wanted it now.
Ash and the others secretly watched.
They knew Treecko's pride wouldn't accept help.
Finally, after countless attempts, Treecko developed a powerful downward spin that turned his Pound attack into something capable of cracking stone.
A true breakthrough.
Then Team Rocket attacked again.
Somehow Jessie's hair was back—whether glue, wig, or regeneration, no one knew.
Treecko fought Seviper again.
This time, his enhanced Pound smashed Seviper's head so hard the audience winced.
Then Pikachu Thunderbolted Team Rocket into orbit.
Seviper's poor brain… two concussions in one day.
No one knew if he'd still be functional later.
Treecko's Journey Continues
Treecko gradually strengthened its bond with Ash.
He battled in two gyms—
losing the first, but defeating a newly evolved Machoke in the second.
Later, the group passed by a watermelon farm.
Ash remembered battling a Nuzleaf earlier and seeing its Bullet Seed.
Inspired, he wanted Treecko to learn the move.
He grabbed a watermelon, took a huge bite—
and then—
He sprayed the watermelon seeds like a machine gun, blasting a hole into the ground.
[Lance]: ???
[Steven]: ???
[Bruno]: ???
[Gardenia]: HOLY—! Even Ash can use Bullet Seed?! That's crazier than Jessie's kick!!
[Marshal]: A human using a Grass-type move… this breaks everything…
[Cynthia]: Perhaps Ash really IS a human Pokémon…
[Alder]: It's not impossible! His punches and kicks already rival a regular Pokémon's!
[Bea]: Ash… someday, I'll come to Kanto to challenge you!
The world collectively questioned if Ash was even human anymore.
Still, Treecko eventually learned a weaker version of Bullet Seed.

His fully mastered version only appeared when he got angry after Ash and Pikachu pranked him with watermelon seeds.
Anger unlocked his hidden potential.
After that, the journey continued.
Many scenes flashed rapidly, but one stood out—
At Flannery's Fire-type Gym, Ash sent out Treecko despite the terrible matchup.
Treecko's speed and strength carried the battle—
earning Ash another badge.

Seeing her own defeat motivated her anew—
One day, she wanted to battle Ash again.
After defeating the fourth Gym, the Lavaridge Gym, Ash and his group continued on their journey.
Along the way, many big and small battles took place.
Until one time, Ash was battling on the roadside against a trainer who had a Whismur.
At almost the same moment, both sides shone with the light of evolution!
A turquoise-colored body, a long leaf growing from its head, three blade-like green leaves forming its arms, and its tail becoming flat—
This was the evolved form of Treecko: Grovyle!
Whismur evolved into Exploud, and Ash's Treecko… had finally evolved into Grovyle!
And it learned the signature move of its evolutionary line—Leaf Blade!
With one cool slash of Leaf Blade, Grovyle cut off a fresh twig and placed it in its mouth.
This signified that he now held a brand-new stance!
[Cynthia: After so many battles, Treecko finally evolved! The way Grovyle uses Leaf Blade now already has a bit of Sceptile's presence!]
[Bruno: Grovyle is indeed trained well… but… even if it evolves into Sceptile, reaching the level where it can fight Darkrai won't be easy! To be honest…]
[Lance: To be honest, this Grovyle doesn't seem particularly special, right?]

Even though Ash's Grovyle was raised very well and had a proud yet caring personality—
Its current growth actually doesn't match the future achievement of defeating Darkrai!
Perhaps just like the professors said:
Grovyle itself may not have exceptional innate talent,
But with Ash, the two create a magical chemical reaction.
That is the reason Sceptile becomes so overwhelmingly powerful in the future—even slaying gods.

Compared to Treecko, who could only rely on Pound and a weak Bullet Seed, this was a world of difference!
Later in the journey, Ash's group arrived at Petalburg Gym.
From Ash and May's conversation, viewers learned that Ash had already visited Petalburg Gym once in the beginning.
But Petalburg Gym required three Pokémon for an official match.
Ash had stored all his Pokémon with Professor Oak, so he only had Pikachu.
Therefore, he couldn't battle formally and only had a friendly match, which ended without a clear winner.
This time, he would have an official Gym battle!
