Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

Kabeer returned to his cabin and sank into his chair, his head resting heavily on the desk. The weight of the case pressed down on him, words swirling in his mind like a relentless storm.

"It all started with the silence."

"You should care about your job, Kabeer."

"We should reinvestigate the case, sir."

"Some things are in paper, certificates, and in person."

The Singhania family's tangled web of secrets gnawed at him. He couldn't pinpoint where to begin unraveling this mess. With a heavy sigh, he pushed himself up and headed to the discussion room.Standing by the smart TV, Kabeer waited as his team trickled in.

Once everyone was seated, he cleared his throat. "Ahem. Ashwin, what's the status on the email?" Ashwin nodded, his voice steady. "The DIG approved, sir, but he wants us to keep it quiet." The team exchanged nods, the air thick with anticipation."As you all know, we're reinvestigating the Singhania case," Kabeer began, his tone firm but tinged with unease. "There are points we need to reconsider." The discussion stretched on, the team hashing out strategies, their voices a mix of determination and caution. Hours later, most officers filed out, but Kabeer signaled for Vivek, Garima, and Karthik to stay.

They watched him expectantly, waiting for him to continue."Nishi… she's different," Kabeer said, his voice low, almost hesitant. Garima's brow furrowed. "You mean her dual personality?" Kabeer shook his head, his unease palpable. "I don't know what it is, but in that cell today, she felt like a completely different person."Karthik leaned forward, confused. "A different person?" Kabeer nodded, struggling to articulate his thoughts.

"Yeah, like… she's Nishi, but not our Nishi. Not the one we've been dealing with."The trio stared at him, dumbfounded. Vivek's eyes lit up with a theory. "You mean… a twin?" Kabeer gave a slow nod, his expression uncertain. "But the Singhania family said David only had one child," Karthik countered, glancing at Vivek for support."I know," Kabeer said, pausing to choose his words carefully. "But today, when I questioned her, she was… different.

She already knew about Raajveer's leaked scandal clip, and she answered me like she was reciting a story, calm and deliberate."Karthik snorted, his tone dismissive. "She's a psychopath." Vivek, more thoughtful, leaned in. "But how did she know? Was the leak planned?" Garima rubbed her forehead, exasperated. "This is getting messier by the second." Vivek pressed on, his voice analytical. "She hinted that the clues are in papers, certificates, or even a person. What does that mean?"Kabeer's gaze drifted to the table. "Sir, did you read her notebook?" Garima asked, her tone urgent. "A few paragraphs," Kabeer admitted, his voice heavy.

"But I think it could be a key piece in this puzzle.""I want to read it," Vivek said, his excitement barely contained. Karthik chimed in, practical as ever. "Sir, we should divide it up. That notebook's massive—over a thousand pages, some bound, some stuck together." Garima nodded, her tone serious. "He's right. It'd take one person nearly two years to get through it."Kabeer sighed, his voice weary. "The Singhania family's history is layered with secrets and lies." The others murmured in agreement, the weight of the task settling over them.

They dispersed to their desks, diving back into work.Later that evening, Kabeer was reviewing the case on his computer when Raajveer Singhania stormed into his cabin without knocking. "Kabeer," he barked, his voice icy. Kabeer looked up, startled but quick to recover. "Raajveer, please, have a seat," he said, keeping his tone calm but firm. Raajveer's glare was piercing. "Have you found out who posted that video?" His words were sharp, dripping with entitlement.Kabeer met his gaze steadily. "We're reinvestigating the case to figure that out." Raajveer's eyes widened, his voice rising in disbelief. "Reinvestigating? You're wasting time!" He stood, turning to leave, muttering, "I should've told my own people instead of relying on you."

Kabeer's patience snapped, his tone sharp but controlled. "Then why are you here begging me for answers? And around here, we address people properly, so you'd better watch yourself—or we'll remind you how we handle things." Raajveer's fists clenched, his face reddening. No one had ever spoken to him like that. He stormed out, his footsteps heavy with anger.Just then, Karthik entered the cabin, his voice tentative. "Sir, I think we should check call records." Kabeer raised an eyebrow. "Since when?" Karthik frowned, confused. "We don't have a specific timeframe," Kabeer clarified, his tone practical. "But I agree we should start with the notebook."

Karthik nodded, then hesitated. "What?" Kabeer asked, sensing something more."Raajveer Singh—" Karthik began, but Kabeer cut him off, his voice calm but dismissive. "Don't worry about him. His reputation's on the line, that's all." Karthik nodded and headed to the main hall to start on the notebook, leaving Kabeer alone with his thoughts.

As the day drew to a close, the team's resolve hardened. The early morning buzzed with enthusiasm, a shared determination to uncover the hidden truths and unmask the real culprits behind the Singhania case. In the police station's discussion room, Vivek, Garima, and Karthik gathered, their faces alight with anticipation as they waited for Kabeer. But there was a twist—Nishi was there too, seated quietly at the table, her presence like a shadow in the room.

Kabeer entered, his expression calm but resolute, and offered a brisk, "Good morning, everyone." The team returned the greeting with nods and murmured hellos, their voices carrying a mix of eagerness and tension. Nishi, however, remained silent, her gaze fixed on the table as if the world around her had frozen. Kabeer's eyes flicked to her briefly, but he brushed off her stillness and got straight to the point.

"Today, we begin with the notebook," he said, his voice steady and commanding. "I'll read through it, and you all will take notes. Understood?" The team nodded in unison, their focus sharpening. But the air grew heavy as Nishi shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her subtle movements drawing uneasy glances from the others. The weight of her presence settled over the room like a storm cloud as Kabeer opened the notebook and began to read
