Let's go back half an hour.
Max Livemore, the leader of the "Mechanical Heart" squad, had just finished dinner with his family when he suddenly heard a knock on the door.
Max saw through the window that a carriage with a "mechanical emblem" was parked on the street outside.
He smiled and said to his wife, "Looks like I have to go to work overtime."
As he spoke, Max got up and opened the door. Captain Iconser, with his brown hair, stood in the doorway and smiled, saying, "I'll need to take up some of your time tonight. There's something I need your help with."
Max smiled and said, "It's okay, there's overtime pay anyway."
As he spoke, he began putting on his coat.
Overtime pay...
Max sighed inwardly. Odis always had "overtime pay" on her lips. Ah, Odis...
Iconser greeted Max's wife and children again. By this time, Max had picked up his cane, put on his top hat, said goodbye to his children and wife, and got into the carriage with Iconser.
To Max's surprise, there was a captain of the "Night Watch" squad, Carl, on the carriage.
Ikonser explained, "This is the liaison between the 'Night Watchers' and the 'Mechanical Heart.' We are about to conduct a joint operation with the 'Night Watchers.'"
"I am appointing you as the liaison for 'Mechanical Heart' to maintain constant contact with 'Night Watchers'."
Max was a little bewildered by the new appointment; when he left the Mechanical Research Society this morning, there was no sign of the operation taking place.
Ikonser then offered an explanation: "At today's meeting of the Mysticism Research Society, Odis obtained astonishing information..."
He briefly recounted the whole story, concluding, "...I had someone send a telegram to the 'Night Watchers' to warn them that someone was investigating them."
"Lord Kresta Cecima came to the research council and informed me of the ongoing plans of the 'Night Watchers'."
At this point, he looked at Karl, the captain of the "Night Watch" squad.
Karl, with his deep-set eyes, continued, "A month ago, we obtained an ancient sealed artifact. It was inscribed with many dragon script characters. Touching it would produce strange and bizarre sounds that could easily cause people to lose control."
"We originally planned to handle it as a normal sealed artifact, but then the church in East Bayron provided a crucial piece of information: the 'Rose School' was actually plotting to seize this sealed artifact."
"So we decided to use this sealed artifact to set a trap, waiting for the people of the 'Rose School' to come and take it."
"The intelligence provided to us by your agents at noon made us think that the 'Rose School' was about to begin its operation."
"However, divination revealed that it was not the 'Rose School' that was investigating the 'Night Watchers'."
"Other secret organizations were also eyeing that sealed artifact, so Archbishop Anthony decided to cooperate with other official extraordinary individuals to ambush the enemy."
Max realized that there were more enemies than expected, and the "Night Watchers" were short-handed, so a joint operation was necessary.
He asked, "Why do these clandestine organizations all want that sealed artifact?"
Max shrugged: "They'd have to be crazy to attack such an important stronghold of the Church of God."
If it were a remote church, that would be one thing, but the churches located in Backlund are basically the "second headquarters" of the Orthodox Church, with demigods residing there.
Although there is a tacit agreement among orthodox churches that the divine spirit does not descend directly into densely populated large cities.
But the Church of the True God has angels; they can reach Backlund in a minute or two, or even less.
"We're still studying that too," Karl said. "Yes, we still haven't fully deciphered the meaning of those dragon scripts."
"But through divination and other means, we have determined that this sealed artifact has a powerful attraction to ancient and mysterious beings, as well as the most evil and twisted beings."
At this moment, Ikonser said again, "I remember, Odis understands the dragon race's script, right?"
Max paused for a moment before saying, "According to our surveillance records, he did indeed teach himself the Dragon Language."
"But..."
However, there are many unstable factors in Odis. What if there really is an ancient and mysterious being inside him, and he completely exposes his true nature after seeing the sealed artifact?
However, with Karl present, it wasn't appropriate to ask this question directly.
"We have informed the 'Night Watchers' of Odis's special status, and they support our next move." As he spoke, Ikonser took out a small, exquisite mechanical lever with a red button at one end.
He said, "Bibliman Horamik can arrive at the scene within three seconds by simply pressing this button."
Max then realized that the condition for the "Mechanical Heart" to cooperate with the "Night Watchers" was to use that sealed artifact to test Odis.
Since he was friends with Odis, having him invite Odis to decipher the dragon script would not arouse Odis's suspicion.
If Odis doesn't show any problems, Max could then easily invite Odis to provide intelligence support for this joint operation, which would seem like a logical step.
Thinking of this, Max said, "Okay, let's go invite Odis now."
He knew all too well that this was also a test for him.
Max and Odis are usually very close, but who knows if Max has been influenced by Odis?
Iconsel nodded: "You can knock on the door in a bit."
The carriage arrived at 77 Helling Avenue, and Max got out and knocked on the door.
Knock knock knock~
Odis, who was chatting with Bernadette upstairs, frowned. Who would be knocking on her door so late?
Bernadette replied, "My hunch was right; the truth has come knocking."
"We'll continue our conversation when you get back."
After saying that, the other person seemed to leave.
Odis didn't quite understand what the other person meant, but guessed that what she was about to face was probably related to the "Morse Penitentiary" that they had been talking about earlier.
He hurried downstairs. His spirit didn't issue any warnings, so he opened the door. There stood Max: "So late..."
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
Odis's gaze fell on the carriage with the "Mechanical Holy Emblem" on the street: "...Any progress on the previous case?"
He was referring to the case where members of the "Rose School" were discovered.
Even now, Odis still doesn't know who was providing him with the clues.
"No, there's another, more important case," Max said. "Captain Iconsel is also in the carriage."
Odis paused slightly, "Wait a moment."
He went back and put on a coat, then looked at the streets outside shrouded in thick fog: "This awful weather."
So Odis put on a hat, otherwise her hair would get wet if she walked in the fog.
Once aboard the carriage, Odis greeted Ikonser. Odis was somewhat surprised to find Karl, the captain of the "Night Watch" squad, also there.
He had also met Karl before; the leader of the "Night Watchers" squad who had come to the fighting arena to arrest him was this Karl in the dark trench coat.
What Odis didn't know was that Karl later helped him hide evidence.
Captain Ikonser briefly explained the purpose of bringing Odis along. He said that the Night Watchers and the Mechanical Heart had a collaboration and needed to decipher a dragon's document. He had heard that Odis understood the dragon language, so he was taking him along to take a look.
Odis nodded and said, "Helping the officials investigate cases is something we ordinary citizens should do."
"Um, how is overtime pay calculated?"
Carl couldn't help but glance at Ikonser, as if asking: Is this really an ancient and mysterious being? Would an ancient and mysterious being ask you for overtime pay?
Ikonser was already used to it: "Pay according to the overtime standards for 'Mechanical Heart' members. Well, if you can decipher that dragon document, you'll get an extra bonus."
"Hearing the word 'bonus' suddenly makes me not miss my warm bed as much." Then Odis changed the subject: "Winter in Backlund is really cold..."
He had some doubts about whether this operation was intended to serve his own purposes.
Odis didn't sense Ikonser's probing, but rather Karl's presence made him suspect that the "Night Watchers" might possess some crucial clue—that could prove Odis was Lelouch. Therefore, were Ikonser and the other two preparing to join forces to arrest him?
He wasn't worried that "Mechanical Heart" would be detrimental to him. Right now, they were playing dumb with each other. "Mechanical Heart" was monitoring him, but it acted as if it had no suspicions about him at all.
Odis knew about the "Mechanical Heart's" surveillance, but pretended to know nothing.
However, Odis soon discovered that the carriage was not heading to the "Night Watchers'" headquarters on Pesfield Street in the Backlund parish, but to the dock area, which put his mind at ease.
The carriage was indeed heading towards the dock area. In order not to harm innocent people, the "night watchman" set up a trap in a large warehouse in the dock area.
Upon arriving at the warehouse, someone had already opened the gate, and the "Mechanical Heart" carriage went directly into the dimly lit warehouse.
The huge warehouse was empty except for a metal platform in the center, on which sat a square stone that looked like white jade.
Odis alighted from the carriage and suddenly looked up.
A huge "Black Night Emblem" hung from the top of the warehouse. Odis had a strange feeling that the "Black Night Emblem" had just glanced at him.
He turned to look at Iconsel and Max, and none of them showed any unusual reaction, so Odis didn't take it too seriously, assuming it was just his imagination.
Odis quickly focused his attention on the stone, and he immediately recognized it: "This is not ordinary dragon script."
Rather, they are mystical symbols used by the dragon race. With the help of the "Wilderness of Knowledge," Odis became proficient in these mystical symbols after advancing to the "Fighting Scholar" level.
This thing, I estimate, only Odis could have translated in the entire Backlund.
