Damien and Cecelia sit at the back of their car while their driver takes them to school. Damien looks out the window, admiring how beautiful Cupid Hollow is.
Everything in this town is so romantic; it feels like he entered Cupid's kingdom. There's a lot of red and pink in every corner, but mostly pink.
People here are nice, which is strange because back in the UK he was told that people in the US are rude. But they're not, well, he doesn't think so.
Damien's face is out the window like a golden retriever who is being kissed by the wind. He's excited for school; he can't wait to meet everyone. He's also excited to see Rowan again.
He had a dream about Rowan last night; it was the most beautiful dream he ever had, and Damien didn't want to wake up.
They were both so touchy, and Rowan was all smiley; he looked like he was in love with Damien. Imagine his disappointment when he woke up and found out that it was all just a dream.
He literally slapped the bed sheets when he saw he was in his room and not a beautiful meadow.
Well, he can make that a possibility. He's going to see Rowan, and he knows he goes to Cupid Hollow. That's the only high school that exists in this town. Unless he's homeschooled, which Damien won't be surprised if he is, but it'll still suck.
Damien wants to see Rowan's handsome face taken away by his beauty and melt in his presence. He doesn't know what happened when he kissed Rowan's hand, but that is proof enough that they have a spark.
Either that or them being together is dangerous, and it's nature's way of warning them that they're not supposed to be together.
Damien has prayed to the gods that Rowan is not a Lockwood. But he sure as hell has a feeling that he is, in fact, a Lockwood.
He can only hope not. Not that that's going to stop him anyway. He is stubborn like that. He just wants to see his crush again.
Cecelia, on the other hand, sits next to him, but she doesn't have a crush to overthink about. She's on Instagram looking at the pictures her old friends had just posted.
She has a fake smile; she wants to be happy for them, but she can't help but feel left out. She misses them so much.
"Hey, sis, are you okay?" Damien asks her.
"Oh, nothing. I just miss the lads back home."
"Aww, hey, we can make new friends, new memories." He says, trying to make light of the situation; he's one of the reasons why they got them to this town in the first place.
But Cece isn't going to hold it against him.
"Yeah, I guess so."
"I know so." He winks.
"What? Are you still thinking about your hybrid crush Rowan?"
"Cecelia sssh." He looks forward.
"What? Igor isn't going to say anything. Right, Igor!?"
"Say what?"
"You're the man, Iggy!"
"Still, we have to be careful. Mom and dad will kill me if they find out. Especially Mom; she'll burn me alive. "
"Oh, so you do know there are consequences for this infatuation you have with the hybrid. "
"Of course I do. It's just, I can't stop thinking about him; he's always in my thoughts. I even had a dream about him."
Cece checks her nails. "Well, that's what happens when you think about someone so much, you dream about them. That's how it works. "
"It felt so real. "
"Almost all dreams do."
"Cece come on! Why aren't you supporting me?"
"What do you want me to say, Damien? You want me to tell you to go and profess your love for him. Repeat history and ignore the fact that our parents will be pissed? I will always support you, D, but you've got to admit this whole thing is a bit much, though. What if he doesn't like you?"
"No, he does. "
Cece giggles. "Why? Because you think everyone's in love with you."
"Well, yes, and—"
"Wow." Cece laughs. "Love the humility, twin bro."
"And there was a spark between us. I felt it."
"The flickering lights?"
Damien nods.
"Well, that is kind of strange. "
"You see, there's something between us, and I'm—"
"Nothing is going to stop until you figure it out. "
Damien just looks at his twin sister like she just did the most disrespectful thing ever. Cece, on the other hand, snorts because it's funny seeing Damien's face like that, especially when someone finishes what he's about to say because that person knows him so well.
"What?" Cece giggles.
"Nothing. Igor, are you sure you didn't hear anything?"
"Hear what, sir?" Igor asks, and Cece gestures to their driver, ensuring Damien that he is, in fact, not going to say anything.
Igor has been their chauffeur since they were kids. He's in his late thirties but looks younger.
Dark hair, sharp cheekbones and a youthful glow. He barely talks. Ever since he was a kid, Damien would talk to Igor, and he'd respond with the nod of his head or short words.
Damien doesn't know why he doubts that Igor won't say anything to his parents. He really does keep quiet.
Why would he be worried? Maybe because of what he's doing... Or feeling is something that won't just get him in trouble but the whole family.
The GPS leads Igor right to the school, and he stops. The twins walk out of the car, and they put on their sunglasses to protect their eyes from the sun.
"Thanks, Igor," Cece says.
"Thank you, Igor."
"No problem", Igor says. He doesn't move until the twins get in, and now they just stand there looking at the school. It looks like a stereotypical American high school.
The kids are dressed in whatever, but not necessarily whatever; they're just not forced to dress the same way. The yellow school buses, the kids on their bicycles and skateboards, people just making out, the American flag on a pole and guys dressed in a velvet varsity jacket
"Wow." Cece starts. "At least we're not wearing uniforms." Damien nods, agreeing with her. The two move forward, and they strut toward the main block.
All eyes are on both of them. People see the new kids, and they wonder if their kids are celebrities. Because they look too cool to be in this school, they're even wearing shades like they're prepared to be attacked by Paparazzi.
They both look too cool.
Cece is dressed in a glossy black leather jacket over a white top, black leather shorts, sheer tights, a studded belt, and knee-high black boots. The choker and dark makeup add an edgy, rebellious vibe.
Meanwhile, Damien wears a cosy, playful streetwear look featuring a turquoise oversized knit polo, cream wide-leg pants, and matching turquoise platform Converse sneakers. The checked shirt peeking out adds a cute preppy touch.
They both look like they come from wealthy families. No eye has left them since they arrived.
"Here comes the full mage!" Violet says excitedly, but then she stops. "Or shifter. Sometimes I forget you're both."
"Damn, I wish everyone would forget," Rowan says, then shrugs. He opens up his locker.
"Hey, killer." He receives a slap on his shoulders, and he turns to see Kael Dwight. One of his best friends.
"Oh hi, Kael," Violet says.
"Hey, man."
"Hey guys. I heard you passed the test," he says to Rowan.
"Why? Are you surprised?"
"What? Me?" He scoffs. "Who would ever doubt the great Rowan Lockwood?" He bows, and Violet laughs.
"Shut up," Rowan says, a small smile plastered on his face.
Kael is the captain of the football team; he's wearing a velvet varsity jacket right now. He's very handsome; a lot of girls crush on him and want to date him, but he wants to remain single for whatever reason when he can just get anyone he wants.
He's also a werewolf, and Rowan met him at combat class when they were younger. Unlike the other werewolves, he was the only one who was nice to him, just like how Violet was the only one who was nice to Rowan.
The three became friends and have been close since then.
Kael is extremely handsome. Full lips, long dark tousled hair like his ancestors had before their land was stolen, the real Americans, tanned skin, defined brows, dark eyes and a lean face.
Anyone can see how cute he is.
"Can I see the mark?"
"I took a pic," Violet says. And thank God for her.
She brings out her phone and shows him.
"Gnarly! This is amazing; you're a full-on badass now."
"And you're just a football player," Rowan says.
"Wow, still hating on football players."
Rowan shrugs.
"You know we're not all bad."
"Eh."
Violet doesn't say anything; she just stands there looking between both of them with a grin on her face.
"Kael! Bro, come on." One of his football friends calls for him.
"Alright, I'll see you guys later. Congratulations again, Rowan."
"Thanks," Rowan says, and he walks away.
"Wow, you really can't see it."
"See what now?"
Violet just smiles at Rowan.
"No! Violet, no."
"Yes!"
"No, Kael does not have a crush on me," Rowan says the last part in a whisper.
"You're so blind; of course he does."
"He doesn't, he's straight or whatever."
"Have you ever seen him with a girl?" Violet asks him with a raised brow. Rowan doesn't say anything; he just stares at her.
"You see."
Rowan groans. "Whatever, bro."
Violet laughs. "I really can't wait to meet the person who's going to finally steal your heart and—oooh, who are they?"
Rowan furrows his brows and then looks in the direction Violet is looking. That's when he spots two people, but only one captures his eye.
The Moroi.
