Chapter 12 - Twelve: Ant Bully

Rose runs past a lot of trees in the woods, and this time she's not dreaming. She woke up early, put on her gym clothes, and went out for a run. However, she doesn't usually run on weekdays; she trains with her uncle and cousin. But she decided to run because even though she woke up early, she still had that dream.

The dream where she's running in a white dress, and Daniel's there. Why the hell does she keep having that dream? She wonders, she doesn't want to have such dreams anymore, she's tired, she's done with all this madness.

Ever since that boy came, she has been acting strange, and ever since he came, that's when a killer arrived in town, stealing people's hearts. He might seem like some kind of hero, but he's not; she doesn't trust him, and maybe she should be investigating him first. He's her first suspect.

She runs fast and fast. At first, she starts out jogging, but each time she thinks about that boy, her legs will quicken, and she'll run faster and faster, even using her supernatural speed.

She can't get his face out of her head. Ever since that night, she just can't stop thinking about him.

His stupid smile, his stupid sparkly eyes, and his stupid lips. She stops, and then she screams, which releases the magic within her that slices a tiny tree in half. She looks at the tree in shock.

She doesn't know why she's shocked, considering she's a powerful witch; she comes from a long line of powerful witches from her mother's side.

She doesn't know her mother's family, has never met her grandparents from her mother's side, maybe because they forbade her from being with her father, who was a werewolf. But she knows about her mother's ancestors. The Bellman Witches.

So yes, she does have power, but she has to be careful with it.

Rose looks at the tree. If she's powerful enough to cut it down, she's powerful enough to fix it.

"Now what did that poor tree do to you?" Rose looks away from the tree, and she faces the owner of that voice.

It's Piper Blackwell and her two minions. Caroline King and Rita Domino. The mean girls of the witch community. Piper has hated Rose since she first laid her eyes on her when they were little. Of course, Rose knows Piper's parents aren't the biggest fans of hybrids, and they're a part of the reason why Piper has so much hatred in her heart and why she's so spoiled.

But Piper has always been jealous of Rose. Rose has always been number one in her witch lessons, and she is the most skilled and powerful witch in Cupid's Hollow. This angers Piper so much.

Piper is a pretty girl, with long straight black hair, light brown skin, full lips, sparkly long lashes, sharp cheekbones and a ballerina physique.

She's also stylish in a soft, preppy way. She's dressed for school already, she's wearing an oversized navy sweatshirt with "ANGEL" lettered layered over a crisp white collared shirt.

Meanwhile, the bottom is a white pleated mini skirt that adds structure and a playful collegiate vibe.

Brown oversized sunglasses, white headband, gold hoop earrings, white ankle socks and polished black flat shoes.

Rose knows why she's here. Since she's dressed up for school, she knows Piper isn't here to jog but to harass her.

Rose sighs and then rolls her eyes. "What do you want, Piper?" she says.

"I heard you had your first kill." Piper smiles, but she still has a grimace plastered on her face. "Congratulations."

Rose crosses her hands. "Thank you," she says.

"Now, we both know that test was easy as hell," Piper says.

"A wendigo, really?" Says Caroline, flipping her strawberry blond hair.

"A baby witch can kill a wendigo." Says Rita.

"My thoughts exactly," Piper says. "Hmm." Piper looks at Rose up and down. "Let's see this mark, shall we?" she mutters a spell that brings Rose's black sweater down.

"Hey, what the hell!" Piper ambles toward Rose along with her minions. They look at the mark closely. Piper's face turns in disgust.

She looks at Rose. "I know you, Rose, and you know a wendigo was nothing. They were easy on you."

Rose doesn't say anything; she just stares at her. She keeps her smile intact no way she is going to let Piper Blackwell annoy her this morning.

"How about we give you a real challenge?" Piper says, smirking and then she backs away from her; her minions do the same with smirks on their faces.

Rose's smile disappears.

"What's that supposed to mean?" She says.

"We're just giving you a real challenge." Piper laughs, and her friends join her.

Piper brings out a necklace from her pocket and then moves it closer to her lips, and she blows her hair into it. A pillar of green smoke leaves the necklace and materialises into three large green monsters.

Ogres.

"Now that's a challenge. Come on, girls, let's go. Good luck, Rosie," they laugh, then they disappear.

The ogres roar, their breath smells like shit, and Rose remembers how Derek fought ogres for his test and smelled horrid for weeks. She's going to take care of these ogres, but she's not going to be touching them.

The ogres run toward her, chasing her.

"Fucking bitches." Rose mutters, and then she turns around to make a run for it. The ogres chase and chase her. One of them plucks a tree from its roots and throws it at her. Rose ducks, and the tree comes crashing in front of her.

She groans.

"Fuck this," she stops, then turns around.

"You want to fight, let's fight," she puts in her earphones.

Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana is playing.

The ogre almost squashes her with his large arms she dodges it.

She's not using her werewolf powers for this. If she touches them with her claws, she's going to smell for weeks, so she's going to be using magic on Shrek's family.

She's not going to kill them, but she's going to banish them to the never real, which is where that bitch Piper summoned them from.

But first, they have to be weak for her to do that.

She places her hands on the ground, and she mutters something.

The dirt begins to turn round and round, forming a tornado. She sends the wind toward the ogres, and they stumble and stumble. They're distracted, they groan annoyed by this thing.

One of the ogres finds its way out of the wind and then runs toward Rose. Rose slashes the air with her claws, and a large mark forms on the ogre's stomach. Rose furrows her brows, confused at the fact that she did that without touching him.

"That's new," she says as she watches green blood come out of this ogre.

The ogre falls to the ground, causing the woods to shake, which makes the birds fly away.

It's now or never.

She uses a stick to draw a symbol on the ground, and she says a spell that opens a portal to the ground. She steps away from the hole, and she watches as the ogres are sucked into that hole. It takes three of them until the hole closes.

Rose lets out a sigh of relief before standing up from the ground. She begins to dust herself.

"Impressive," she turns her head, and she sees Lorenzo Salazar standing tall in his brown coat.

"You saw who summoned the ogres, right?" she says.

"Yes, and I'll inform Piper's parents. Not like they'll do anything, but they have to because throwing a monster at another witch is punishable."

Rose scoffs because she knows for a fact that nothing's going to happen to Piper.

Lorenzo Salazar is one of her magic teachers, but he teaches defence against the dark arts. He's also from a line of powerful witches.

She likes him because they both understand each other, closed off, not expressive, their lives both shaped by grief.

Lorenzo lost his father when he was younger, but the tragedy that shaped him the most was when he lost his best friend when he was seventeen.

Lorenzo is a handsome man in his thirties. Light brown skin, honey brown hair, deep brown eyes, a goatee beard and a moustache. He hates bullies, noise and vampires. A vampire took his best friend, which is why it was so easy for him to kill the vampire witch hybrid that killed Rose's parents.

Rose will always be grateful to him for saving her life.

"You're getting more powerful by the day."

"If you think that, then why did you give me the task to fight a wendigo and not an ogre, or a dragon shifter or something more powerful?" Rose snaps.

Lorenzo sighs. "Don't let Piper Blackwell get to you, Rose. She's just jealous of you."

"Why? She's not the freak show hybrid that people run away from. She's not an abomination, and neither is she an orphan. And I'm definitely not prettier than her."

"No, she just hates the fact that you're more skilled than her; she loves to be number one in anything. And I'm not supposed to say this, but you are, in fact, prettier than her." He says, smiling.

Rose scoffs, shaking her head, but it's obvious what Lorenzo said made her blush.

"Now let me see that tattoo," he walks over to her.

"Ugh, why does everyone want to see it?"

"You're a hybrid. People are curious."

Rose rolls her eyes and brings out her hand to show him. He looks at it and then smiles. "Wow, amazing."

"So what are we going to do about the monstrous creature stealing people's hearts?"

"We are doing nothing. Let the adults handle it, and you focus on killing wendigos," he says, walking away. Rose knew he was going to say that, it was worth a try, though, but she's not going to be listening to him.

He stops walking and turns around.

"Good job, Rosalie. I'm proud of you," he says, and then he disappears.
