Chapter 39 - Crazy love of Mad Alchemist

The unvarying gaze kept on parting for the Goddess. Adam was completely lured in by Erachna. He stayed by a reason to extract Grimgon- but this was merely a contrition.

"What are you doing?" Erachna asked

"Making an contraption" Adam whispered, as he coiled spring around

Days went by as the rites continued. Another nocturnal hunting, clutching food for Erachna. Meticulous organisation of everything around in the shrine.

Adam was completely dissolved into the chores, unknowingly…

On the other hand, Erachna was besieged by her increasing aura. Even with a single believer, a Goddess emits tremendous energy. She was sensing it herself- the surge Tistra might feed on soon. With the drenched thought, she peeped through the entrance.

"What a bizarre sight" she hadn't seen the outer world since ages

"Beautiful" she whispered

The trees hushed green and the birds chirping melodious rhymes- everything had become more of an imagination for her. She extended her hand, trying to touch the green grass, emerging right off the doorstep.

But that's when he heard the crackle of the verdure.

She jerked her vision to the forest, and there it was

A beastmen, maybe a scout venturing from the tribe. He saw her… alive…

The situation was horrific, and terrifying for the Goddess. But still, unknown to her conscience, she wasn't worried about herself- but about Adam instead.

It was a strange feeling…

She was a goddess, but being utterly selfless was never her trait.

"What is this strange feeling?" She thought.

So for that sovereign moment of time, she bent to leap out. She had no other option but to kill him. The fate under jurisdiction of God, doesn't obey negligence over what's important.

Feet's shadow illuminated over the grass, and her skin barely nicked it. She was going to grace it. But soon enough, Adam rushed out.

He had a pickaxe in his hand…

Numbness over his face…

He had never killed a person before, but he knew the news would spread like a wild fire. So they had no other recourse. Dashing above fantasizing his superhuman blood, Adam roared through a ringed twill of tree. The leaves shattered around as he chased the trespasser.

Erachna was trembling…

She was too afraid to react…

Going outside the shrine would reveal her presence instantly. It would be even more mortal than a rumor.

She blinked in the darkness of the threshold. Her eyes gritting over her skin, it felt like an eel finding its way out.

And in the next instance she found herself in the alchemist's workplace. Even though being a mad man completely intricate by science, he had arranged his stuff accordingly.

Her instance stubbed, as she was confused by the unconscious movement. That's when she overviewed the frame. It was Adam and his brother- Wimblen. They had arms across, rendering their brotherly bond.

She followed the lanes, eyeing the stuff he deals with everyday.

And later came the final part…

A note for her… maybe something he wanted to give her…

"An offering… or maybe a form of love" she thought

But above it was a relevance, waiting to be revealed. A machine: absorbing the Grimgon radiations. She felt it… the energy flowing inside it.

The note simply commanded her to switch on the flicker. It roared, droner it got the more time it was left working. But it was something stupefied. She could feel her traces vanishing. Her energy was being camouflaged by the apparatus.

Then she understood…

It was his way to portray love for the Goddess…

An absurd invention that would diminish her presence…

Something that will keep Tistra ensured about her death…

That's when something heavy plunged. She quickly turned around, finding the stranger lying dead. It was the man who saw Erachna alive. Behind the body was Adam, trembling about the first life he took, along with tremendous shock of his love being laid bare.

"Is this what I think it is" Erachna stuttered

"I don't know what have you done to me, Goddess"

He stared at the blood on his palms

"But if protecting you makes me a monster"

He paused

"Then I will be one"...

She stepped in… Adam followed her lead.

The intensity of gaze grew, but none spoke any further…

They kept on coming closer…

Adam was still sprang in blood, dripping of his fingers, it marked the trail. But he didn't stop by the pain… he kept on burning for the Goddess.

And finally the moment came when they knew: they wished for the same thing…

Adam and Erachna kissed- drenched and heavy. The blood on his hand enveloped her dress, as they slipped in further it garnished her skin. The kiss went on getting fierce and the tongue rolled over. A sweet taste… that's all Adam felt, with an unwilling surge of closing even further. A thought of merging with her body, and ting her soul.

That was when the tale of love started…

Since then, they have lived together. Cleaning, gathering resources, innovating something reprehensible and astonishing. They build their small world in their isolated life…

Time came after many years, when Erachna got pregnant. She was happy, Adam was happy, but right then another tragedy struck.

Adam got a rare disease he couldn't fight. But in Erachna's difficult moments he remained unfazed. He grasped her in warm clothing, he tried several experiments in cooking- as resources were limited and so were the options. But his body kept falling short. Time came when he could barely stand, but would still go out for food. Erachna tried to help him enough but for the first time they felt hopeless about each other.

"I'm sorry" Adam whispered "I can't do anything about it"

"You have done more than enough, My Love" Erachna smiled as she felt his lap.

Both rested alongside- it remained the only placid moment. The only moment where they felt the warmth they deserved and asked for…

Finally it was the day of great labour. Parturition initiated with tremendous pain surging in Erachna's body.

The baby's head was invisible already….

Adam tried to console her… he tried to help pull the baby… but his vision blurred. He could feel it- his years of lovely bond with Erachna fading as he perceived distance. He got up, his knees inward, trembling to knock either one. He rested on the stone as his eyes started bleeding, gritting in pain. But he stayed alive, because his death would mean the demise of his love and the baby. He wasn't shattered…

Erachna extended her hand trying to get a grasp of Adam, but her hand left short. She strengthened her mind, and contracted with her complete force.

Adam till then could only see the blood drizzling over his pupil. Everything was crimson, as if it was red blindness. That's when he heard the baby cry, he couldn't see it, but he felt the relief of its safety.

"Erachna?" He stuttered

She was completely exhausted, lying numb on the ground. But she uttered some courageous words

"It's fine, My Love"

She paused to grasp her breath

"Wanna hold her?"

Silence…

No response came…

The dead retreat of beats from Adam's heart governed the results…

He was dead… lying on the stone rest…

And she knew instantly that with the new life she gave, another one was taken away from her. The excruciating pain took over her quelled flesh. And with it her past chapters were unveiled to Leon…

"So you may rest now, Goddess"

Leon whispered

"Inasha will be under my care"
