Kim stood outside Mia's new apartment building, staring up at it with her mouth slightly open.
"You live here?" she said into her phone.
"Yeah," Mia's voice came through. "Second floor. Unit 2B."
"Mia, this is not a house. This is like, an actual nice place."
"Just come up," Mia laughed.
Kim ended the call and headed inside, taking the stairs two at a time because she was too impatient to wait for the elevator.
When Mia opened the door, Kim pushed past her immediately, her eyes wide.
"Oh my God."
"Hi to you too," Mia said, closing the door behind her.
"No, seriously. Oh my God." Kim spun around slowly, taking it all in. "They gave you this? Like, for free? As part of your job?"
"It's not free," Mia corrected. "It's part of my employment arrangement."
"Same thing." Kim walked into the living room, running her hand along the back of the couch. "This is nicer than my apartment. Like, significantly nicer. Is that real hardwood?"
"I think so."
