Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 The system knew me?

I laid my head down on the baby's back,"This feels like being sea sick, except the sea is going crazy."

"But it's also like being on an amusement park ride!"

When she smiled her face appeared both sheepish and intellectually lacking.

My hands clenched tight.

If this is what an amusement park ride feels like, I don't ever want to get on one.

I decided to investigate what happened to this place.

After asking the girl, I got an idea . A month ago an apocalypse with an invasion of robots had occurred and the select few amongst humans had begun awakening their consciousness.

I asked the girl, "Then what kind of ability did you awaken?"

"Mine is luck, when I use my ability my luck increases. The baby also has an ability too. He can shift his size!"

According to the system, the robots are an alien civilization and are kidnapping humans for the purpose of extracting their consciousness power. Although only a small amount awaken and can generate consciousness, the consciousness amount that ordinary people are born with is enough to make these robots hunt them.

I opened my mouth and hesitated.

"What's wrong?"

"By the way, how did you know?"

"Know what?"

"That the robots were coming? Can you also feel consciousness power too?"

"That... I have a system like the ones in a novel and Jiji, my system, told me. Earlier he also saved you using the wind thingy."

A realisation dawned.

This place wasn't based on my memories, it was derived from someone else's. The numerous buildings and streets that I've never got the chance to explore came from someone else's memories.

And there's only one person who came to this floor aside from me, the system.

It had gone unusually quiet after hearing my name.

The system must've known me at some point, maybe everything that is happening here did happen, but had been wiped out from my memories. Maybe I didn't die from my illness as I'd believed. Could these robots be the reason for my death?

My heart thumped loudly and a chill ran down my spine. Although at the moment there was no danger signal from what was pursuing us, the girl beside me wouldn't be safe when we're finally caught.

My hand clenched tighter and veins popped out. I turned my head and looked back. In the distance a dark dot could be seen flying towards us in high speed.

From the beginning, it was impossible to escape.

"We've been found" I told the girl, " and it's impossible to escape."

The girl turned and stared at the black dot that had grown larger. She instantly closed her eyes and sat still focusing one something.

Because I was closer to her than back in the alley I was able to feel the consciousness power swirling inside her.

There was still a long stretch for me to go in terms of learning to recognize consciousness. Unless I was close by, it was hard for me to feel the movements of a consciousness power inside a person's body. Earlier, in the back alley, when I stepped on the leaf she must've used her ability.

The girl stayed in her position and the robot in the distance came closer and closer. It was a dark and red robot with a smooth and elegant appearance.

The girl suddenly shouted, "It's not an enemy, Jiji says it's one of his siblings!"

A frown appeared on my forehead.

The robot came closer and closer.

I grabbed the girl and jumped.

At that moment a wire shot towards the place where the girl had been standing.

Then a stinging sensation shot through my body. Right before loosing consciousness I could vaguely sense that a wire had touched my forehead.

Upon opening my eyes countless robots flying in the air greeted me.

We were in a completely white room as big as a football stadium with a column of black wire in the middle of the room. Robots constantly buzzed and flew in the air to passage doors lined, arranged in a dense hive like manner.

Around the column, the floor fell away into a circular drop.

In front of me, the girl sat looking over the circular drop with her back facing me.

My steps approached her carefully and I leaned down to see what lay below inside the circular drop.

A mass of human corpses laid on the ground, piled deep beneath the light with their heads saved inside and out.

The next thing I know a hand was pulling me away from the circle. "We need to go, we need to go" the girl sobbed.

"But how?"

In a desperate situation, if a person doesn't despair it means they've become manic with hope. To think an illusion would be able to replicate this and play it out so perfectly.

"We'll figure something out. I'm lucky so it'll be okay"

"Where are you going?"

A mechanical and cold voice stopped us as the dark and red robot appeared again.
