Chapter 35 - Purchase completed

Leo had to wait for about three hours in a corner of the police station with a little girl in his arms.

They were by far the most disturbing three hours of the hall year.

For almost a year, he had been living in comfort, taking no responsibility, not even suffering from money problems, and now it felt as if he had suddenly awakened from a pleasant dream and returned to his old life.

Well, it was not that bad, actually.

When Hana cried because she missed her mother and eventually fell asleep from exhaustion, all the women in the police station quietly gathered around Leo and began flirting with him.

Small differences like this still made his life better than before, and the whole world still felt as sweet as a fun VR game that favored him.

Despite how the people at the police station tried to comfort him, Leo believed that Hana's mother had abandoned her and fled because of some personal troubles.

After all, if she had been killed, the police would have noticed easily.

Getting tired of staring at the ceiling while lost in thought, Leo decided to do something.

Even after spending all those hours at the station, he still had time to go see the shop he was going to buy.

As expected, the landlady, Mrs. Saem, was deeply disappointed when she saw Leo.

Even though she had never said it out loud, Leo realized his guess was correct because he had seen the disappointment on her face the moment she learned his age.

Even though the woman was in her mid-forties, she was still well-groomed and healthy. She had prepared a meal before Leo came to visit.

The moment Leo ate the food, he realized she was showing off her cooking skills.

Although the woman was disappointed because of Leo, she still made no effort to persuade him to back out of the purchase.

In the end, Leo and Mrs. Saem went to a notary and finalized the sales contract for the house.

She was so bad at hiding her expressions that one of the men working there secretly approached her and asked if she was being forced to sell the house.

When all the paperwork was done, Leo saw that the house he bought had a bedroom reserved for him, but there was no furniture inside.

Even in the largest part of the house, where the kitchen and living room were combined, there was only a simple couch.

Mrs. Saem explained shyly that she had assumed whoever moved in would bring their own furniture, so she had sent hers to her son, who had moved into a small studio apartment.

Leo did not care much about it, but pretended to be upset. Under that emotional pressure, he did not hesitate to push many of his own responsibilities onto her.

For example, from now on, on weekdays, she would prepare breakfast and dinner, and she herself would clean the entire house except for Leo's room. As if these were not enough, Leo "gifted" her the task of clearing out everything inside the shop downstairs within a single day. More accurately, he ordered her to get rid of everything in one day.

If all the shelves and electronic devices had been left to Leo, he would have thrown them away. But if he left the job to the woman, she could easily sell everything through the other shop owners she knew.

A win-win situation.

As for why Leo wanted all the shelves, microwave heaters, beverage machines, and refrigerators sold, the reason was simple: after the purchase was complete, the system itself had instructed him to do so.

As a result, while Mrs. Saem worked hard, Leo sneaked out, using the excuse that he had no bed to sleep on and that settling in a city like Seoul without booking a hotel in advance would be too difficult.

And now, Leo was enjoying the view from the top floor of an expensive hotel, paying a ridiculous five million won per night.

Thinking of the little girl's adorable smile, Leo guessed that she would have a much harder life in the future.

As a mentally mature adult, he even wanted to adopt the girl, but with his current body, the law would never allow it. After all, Leo was not married, and adopting a child was simply impossible for him.

After thinking for a moment, Leo decided that meeting the little girl had been fate. If Hana were to live with her relatives in the future, he would secretly go and check whether she was living a good life.

Like in some Korean drama series, he wanted to make sure that Hana's stepfamily would not be the kind who smile on the outside but are monsters inside.

If she had no relatives and ended up being adopted by a good but poor family, Leo also decided to provide financial support to the family. After all, money fell from the sky; it would be strange to act stingy.

Leo thought that, when it came to the little girl, he had done everything he could, and felt proud of himself for a brief second.

In a better mood, Leo jumped out of bed, stretched his body, and went to the bathroom to start filling the bathtub.

At that moment, a button on the wall caught his attention. Without thinking too much, he pressed it, and the strange walls of the bathroom rose like curtains, revealing a full-height glass view of the city.

"So, enjoying the city view while eating caviar and drinking wine in a hot bath, huh? Wow, rich people really live strange lives... If I lived nearby, I'd definitely look up at the top floor every night, just to see if I could catch a nice view... I wonder if there's a teenage pervert girl with a telescope living in one of these little homes, watching from afar?... Hmm, I guess closing the curtains before I undress would be unfair to the previous guests..."

As Leo's thoughts slowly drifted off the right path, someone knocked on the hotel room door twice.

Snapping back to reality, Leo quickly put his half-removed T-shirt back on and walked toward the door…
