Chapter 9 - Civilization and the Bargain

"Relax, I'm not here to kill you. On the contrary, I'm here to discuss a bargain with you—a mutually beneficial one. As for the conflict that just occurred, it was merely a misunderstanding resulting from our lack of familiarity with each other. I don't mind it, and I trust you won't mind either. We are civilized people, and we should resolve conflicts and disputes in a civilized manner. Don't you agree?"

Allen spoke as he sat down opposite Marcus Cabrelli, simultaneously positioning Lupos to monitor the reactions of everyone else in the room. Anyone who dared make a threatening move would be instantly torn to shreds.

"A bargain?"

Hearing that the Nen user before him wasn't here to kill him, the Mafia boss immediately let out a sigh of relief. He forced a composed tone and asked, "What kind of bargain?"

"First, let me introduce myself. My name is Allen. My father, Agostino, recently lost a batch of precious items intended for this year's Yorknew Underground Auction. To compensate for this lapse, I've decided to use other items as substitutes."

The moment he finished speaking…

Like a magician, Allen produced a pile of rings, shortswords, daggers, twenty Greater Healing Potions (Restores 455 to 586 Health), and five Superior Healing Potions (Restores 700 to 900 Health) from the small pouches hanging on his waist.

It was obvious that these items were loot he had accumulated from his daily dungeon runs. In the two-plus months of real-world time, he had successfully cleared the Zul'Farrak, Maraudon, and Sunken Temple (Temple of Atal'Hakkar) dungeons. His Hunter class level had also reached 52, and he was currently attempting to conquer Blackrock Depths, the five-person dungeon reputed to be one of the most intricately designed, largest, and most complex in WoW history.

Therefore, many of the phased-out equipment items were no longer needed. He had also accumulated four stacks of Major Healing Potions (Restores 1050 to 1751 Health), and various lower-tier potions piled up in his bags and bank. He had originally planned to sell them all to vendors for gold.

But now, it seemed he had found a better way to handle them.

"Agostino? You're his son! Why have I never heard him mention you?" Marcus Cabrelli was greatly astonished.

In his impression, this merchant who operated in the gray area was merely a minor figure who relied on Mafia power to strike down competitors, and while his children were decent, they were nothing special. The sudden appearance of a son who commanded terrifying Nen powers was bound to create a huge cognitive shock. It was like thinking you were dealing with a sheep, only to discover a fierce tiger standing behind it.

"I'm the youngest child in the family, and I've always been extremely well-protected. Furthermore, I've been away from home, wandering around, since I was twelve, so it's perfectly normal that you haven't heard of me. Now, please focus your attention on these items. I guarantee you will be satisfied with them," Allen prompted, pointing to the gear and potions on the table.

While he was now certain he had enough power to uproot the entire Cabrelli Mafia family, after careful consideration, he abandoned that simple and brutal solution. The Mafia in the Hunter x Hunter world were not independent entities; they were interconnected, forming a massive alliance of interests. They possessed intelligence networks spanning every corner and maintained Nen user forces like the Shadow Beasts. When necessary, they could also employ top-tier assassins like the Zoldyck Family to eliminate powerful enemies using their astonishing financial power. Even Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, was forced to employ the Zoldyck Family to assassinate the Ten Dons rather than confront the Mafia Alliance head-on.

Allen did not believe that he, having only recently awakened Nen, was superior to the ruthless Troupe. Therefore, the smart approach was to demonstrate his strength as a warning, then leverage self-interest to win them over.

"What… what are these weapons and rings? Why has my strength suddenly increased! My reaction speed is faster! My body seems stronger?"

After inspecting a few pieces of gear, Marcus Cabrelli abruptly stood up, shouting with an emotional tremor in his voice.

He couldn't help but be excited. Since taking his current position, he had seen countless precious auction items worth billions and tens of billions of Jenny every year, but this was the first time he had encountered something so miraculous that it could spontaneously enhance physical capabilities. If these items appeared at the Underground Auction, they would not only guarantee a fierce bidding war among Mafia leaders worldwide but would also establish his reputation and attract the attention of the Ten Dons.

"You can think of them as magical items created using Nen, which is why they possess extraordinary properties. As a side note, among all these things, the red vials are the most valuable," Allen explained calmly.

In this world, whenever something exceeded the comprehension of ordinary people, it was safe to attribute it to Nen. Since no one could prove they weren't Nen-made, there was no need to worry about being exposed.

"Nen ability? I see!" Marcus nodded thoughtfully, then picked up a Greater Healing Potion. "How is this used? What are the effects?"

"That gentleman, yes, you. Please come here for a moment."

Allen beckoned to another mobster in the room.

The moment the man reached the side of the table, Allen suddenly grabbed a dagger without warning and stabbed him over a dozen times. The white shirt on the man's upper body was instantly soaked red with gushing blood, and the man was clearly on the verge of death.

"Damn it! What are you doing? Are you insane?" Marcus jumped up from the sofa, unable to help but shudder as he questioned him loudly.

"Feed it to him."

"What?"

"I said, feed him the vial in your hand. Hurry up, or he'll pass away in another minute or two," Allen reminded him expressionlessly.

Marcus didn't have time to think, frantically pulling out the stopper and pouring the red liquid from the bottle down his subordinate's throat.

In less than a second, the bloody wounds healed at a speed visible to the naked eye. If not for the blood-soaked shirt, Marcus would have thought the whole episode was a hallucination.

The mobster who had been stabbed over a dozen times for no reason was equally shocked, repeatedly checking the skin on his chest and abdomen, only to find not even a scratch remained. Furthermore, he felt no pain or the weakness expected after massive blood loss; he was as healthy as an ox.

"Greater Healing Potions! They can heal all forms of wounds, including gunshot wounds, stab wounds, cuts, internal bleeding, and fractures caused by blunt force trauma. They can save anyone as long as they haven't drawn their last breath. The five ring-shaped vials contain Superior Healing Potions, which are about twice as potent as the former. I have shown sufficient sincerity; now it's your turn." Allen rested his chin on his hand, observing the Mafia boss's eyes, his entire body radiating an astonishing Aura.

Pressure!

An intense, indescribable sense of oppression!

Marcus felt as if he had plunged into the ocean; even breathing was becoming increasingly difficult. The greedy thoughts he had just entertained were instantly suppressed. Sweating profusely, he promised, "I will deliver these items to this year's auction, and I will only take the minimum commission. But you must guarantee that you can provide the same quantity and quality of items next year. Especially those potions! In return, I will forgive your father's lapse this time and continue our partnership."

"Not enough. You must also guarantee the safety of my family and promise not to disclose the source of these items to anyone. If you fail to do so, I will come to visit you again. And when that happens, it won't be a civilized bargain, but a matter of blood, slaughter, and death," Allen threatened.

"Agreed!"

Marcus didn't even hesitate before accepting. He was completely enthralled by the miraculous effect of the Greater Healing Potion. His mind was racing, trying to figure out how to use this item to climb to a higher position, perhaps even becoming one of the Ten Dons in his lifetime.
