Chapter 1 - The beginning

Inside a dense forest, Liam Yuanshi was halfway to death. On a wide tree branch, his limbs were pierced by sharp spikes.

Liam's mouth parted ever so slightly; a soft, mournful groan escaped him. Right where he was, his very life felt like a nightmare. His chest was ripped open, blood dripping from every ounce of his body onto the tree's surface. The murky pulp of brain gradually streamed downward, but even all this wasn't enough to shut down his miserable life.

"Was it worth it? For what exactly? Just die already! This is painful!" Liam chastised himself. He wished he'd died, but death— that shit never revealed itself when needed.

The wind howled, rustling the leaves in its chilling embrace causing the fatigue on Liam to grow more heavier. Maybe this made Liam realize there was still so much he had left to do— someone he had to protect, something he had to claim. The horror of reality settled in: if he died, how would his mother react? What would happen to her if she never saw her son again? And his father— that would mean the man's bloodline was about to vanish. Wouldn't that be the complete end of the Evon Yuanshi bloodline?

Thick blood dripped from every hole in his body, dyeing both the spikes and the leaves below in crimson. Liam's life was hanging by a thread.

Just when the end was inevitable, when Liam's despair had reached its limit, a dark worm finally got to him. The worm crawled its way up the spike and gradually headed toward Liam's wrist. It curled its cold body around him and, in a sudden motion, forced itself into his wrist.

An explosive pain shot through Liam. His head rang aloud, making his already blurry vision double— if not triple. Then the explosive wave came again, but this time it was unlike any pain he had ever felt. Liam yelled; his already disheveled body trembled violently, blood sizzling down his skin. Liam was in a fully sorry state.
