Kane's POV
Salem walked ahead, carefree, like he wasn't in the midst of two opponents—beings at alpha level but he didn't mind.
"Let's take a walk, shall we?"
"I can take his head clean off," Valerie grunted, gripping her axe even tighter, but I had heard tales. I had fought him. Salem was different, just like Rod.
"What do you want?" I asked, following behind cautiously.
"I found your horses hours ago within the fog," he replied as we descended the mountain.
"I'm tracking you for my own reasons."
"What reason is that?" Valerie asked, making him pause.
"You'd better stop thinking I'm here to kill you," he muttered under his breath.
"Then tell me—"
I blinked, and he was gone. My body reacted on instinct, blocking Salem's attack as the Maiden Sword swung toward me. I barely deflected it in time.
Valerie moved swiftly, cleaving through the air, but he evaded her strike with ease.
I stood stunned as blood drizzled from my neck. I stopped it, but somehow he still got me.
