"T-The kidnappers are back!" Roxanna shouted.
She wanted to step back, but Cyrus immediately grabbed her hand. "No, no, it's alright. They didn't mean any harm when they captured you earlier. Actually, they wanted to save you and Luan."
The people wearing skull masks behind Cyrus didn't say anything or make any sudden movements, as if they didn't want to scare the frightened little fox.
"Saved us?" Roxanna asked in confusion. She glanced back and forth between the masked people and Cyrus. "From what?"
Cyrus answered patiently, "They've lived in these mountains for a long time. They can tell when a snowstorm is about to come."
"That's why they took you and Luan away," he continued. "They knew the storm would arrive soon. If they hadn't made you fall asleep, you might have been trapped in the storm… or even buried in an avalanche."
Roxanna fell silent for a moment because she hadn't expected those scary-looking people to actually be kind.
