Chapter 953 - The Imperial Family's Unexpected Guest

The morning after the Moonlit Harvest Festival, the Veyris Imperial Palace was unusually peaceful.

Sunlight flowed through the enormous windows, illuminating the golden decorations and crystal chandeliers. Outside, magical birds flew between the towers while servants prepared breakfast for the imperial family.

Kael Veyris sat on the balcony, enjoying a cup of tea.

Beside him rested the small silverwood ornament gifted to him by the Silvermoon Elves.

He turned it between his fingers.

"That was a good festival."

For someone who had witnessed the birth of countless realities, Kael found himself appreciating the simplest things more often than ever.

Good food.

Old friends.

A peaceful walk.

And, occasionally, a competition that didn't involve destroying a universe.

Unfortunately, peace never lasted long in his household.

"FATHER!"

Kael slowly closed his eyes.

He recognized that voice.

Veyloria Kaelthera Veyris appeared on the balcony, her black-and-silver hair moving gently in the breeze. Her violet eye and golden-amber eye immediately settled on the ornament in his hand.

"What's that?"

"A gift from the Silvermoon Elves."

"Pretty!"

She picked it up and examined it carefully.

"Did you bring me one?"

"No."

Veyloria turned toward him.

"...Father."

Kael sipped his tea.

"Yes?"

"You visited our friends, attended a festival, ate delicious food, and returned without bringing your daughter a present?"

"I brought back a memory."

"Can I hold the memory?"

Kael nearly laughed.

Behind her, Kaelignis appeared, followed by Seralyth.

Kaelignis folded her arms.

"I told you she would ask for something."

Seralyth looked at the ornament.

"It's beautiful. The Silvermoon Elves make wonderful things."

Veyloria handed it back to Kael.

"Fine. I'll forgive you."

"How generous."

"But next time, bring me something!"

"I'll consider it."

"Father!"

Kael laughed as his daughters crowded around him.

For a while, the balcony was filled with their voices.

Then Shalya arrived.

"Your Majesty, we have a visitor."

Kael looked up.

"Who?"

Shalya consulted the message in her hand.

"Someone from the Silvermoon Clan. Apparently, the visitor has traveled here personally and wishes to speak with you."

Veyloria's expression brightened.

"An elf?"

"Yes, Lady Veyloria."

"Are they bringing presents?"

Shalya paused.

"I have not been informed of any presents."

Veyloria sighed dramatically.

"This morning is becoming disappointing."

Kael entered the Imperial Audience Hall with his daughters accompanying him.

At the center of the hall stood a young Silvermoon Elf wearing elegant white robes embroidered with silver leaves. Long pale-blue hair fell over her shoulders, and her pointed ears were decorated with small crescent-shaped earrings.

She bowed respectfully when Kael approached.

"Greetings, Lord Kael Veyris. My name is Luneth Silverbranch. I serve as a messenger of the Silvermoon Clan."

Kael smiled.

"Welcome to the Veyris Empire, Luneth. You don't need to be so formal with me."

Luneth looked slightly surprised.

"The Elder instructed me to deliver his message personally."

"Then I hope your journey was comfortable."

"It was, thank you."

She produced a small wooden box decorated with silver leaves.

"The Elder asked me to deliver this to you."

Veyloria immediately leaned forward.

"Is it a present?"

Luneth blinked.

Then she smiled.

"It is a gift from our clan, yes."

Veyloria's eyes sparkled.

"I knew this visit would become interesting."

Kael gave his daughter an amused glance before opening the box.

Inside rested a delicate silverwood seed, glowing softly with pale-blue light.

Kael's expression became thoughtful.

"What is this?"

Luneth explained.

"It is a Moonheart Seed. According to our oldest traditions, these seeds were given to the first guardians of the forest. They grow into trees that can live for thousands of years, providing shelter for spirits and creatures that have nowhere else to go."

She lowered her gaze respectfully.

"The Elder wishes to thank you for attending our festival. He hopes you will plant it somewhere in your Empire."

Kael looked at the seed.

A gift intended to create life rather than demonstrate power.

He liked that.

"Please thank the Elder for me. I'll find a suitable place for it."

Luneth smiled.

"There is one more thing."

Kael looked up.

"The Elder has invited you to visit the forest again. However, this time, he hopes you will bring your family."

Veyloria immediately raised her hand.

"We accept!"

Kael glanced at her.

"I haven't agreed yet."

"Father, you can't reject an invitation from our friends!"

"I wasn't planning to."

"Excellent!"

Kaelignis shook her head.

"She just wanted an excuse to travel."

Veyloria grinned.

"Obviously."

Kael laughed.

"Very well. We'll arrange a family visit."

Luneth bowed.

"The Silvermoon Clan will be delighted."

The news spread through the imperial household faster than Kael expected.

Within an hour, several of his wives had expressed interest in visiting the Silvermoon Forest.

Ignisia thought the peaceful scenery sounded appealing.

Lilith wanted to sample the elven desserts.

Nyx was curious about the ancient Moonheart Trees.

Ashvattha expressed particular interest in the forest's connection to nature.

Even the Universe Tree, now living independently in her humanoid form, wished to see the legendary forest.

Kael listened to everyone's suggestions.

Then he noticed something.

"How many people are planning to come?"

Silence.

Ignisia smiled.

"Just a few."

Lilith nodded innocently.

"Very few."

Nyx glanced toward the growing list in Shalya's hands.

"Perhaps more than a few."

Kael looked at the list.

His eyes moved down the page.

And down.

And down.

He eventually reached the bottom.

"...This is almost the entire household."

Shalya adjusted her glasses.

"Thirty-seven family members have expressed interest so far, Your Majesty. Several additional members have not yet responded."

Kael slowly placed the list on the table.

"I was planning a peaceful visit to a forest."

Ignisia smiled and wrapped her arms around his arm.

"And you'll have a peaceful visit with your family."

Lilith leaned closer.

"Unless someone starts an argument about who gets to sit beside you."

Nyx smiled.

"Or who gets the best room."

Kael looked at them.

"Should I be concerned?"

"Absolutely," Lilith replied.

Everyone laughed.

Kael shook his head, smiling.

"Fine. We'll go together. But this is a friendly visit. No intimidating the locals, no challenging the clan's warriors to cosmic duels, and no creating anything that changes the forest without permission."

His daughters nodded.

"Understood!"

Kael narrowed his eyes.

"That was suspiciously quick."

Veyloria smiled sweetly.

"We're perfectly trustworthy."

Kaelignis muttered, "Speak for yourself."

The following morning, Kael and his family arrived at the edge of the Silvermoon Forest.

Rather than bringing an enormous imperial procession, they traveled in a small group.

Kael wanted the elves to feel comfortable around them.

The moment they entered the forest, Veyloria stopped walking.

Her eyes widened.

Silver leaves shimmered overhead, casting pale light across the path. Tiny spirits peeked out from flowers, while glowing butterflies drifted between the trees.

"It's beautiful!"

Seralyth reached out her hand, allowing a tiny spirit to land on her finger.

The creature chirped happily.

Kaelignis examined a nearby tree.

"The magical energy here is incredibly stable."

Ashvattha smiled.

"The forest has been allowed to grow naturally. Its roots are deeply connected to the surrounding land."

The Universe Tree gazed upward at the branches.

"An old forest remembers more than people realize."

Kael turned toward her.

"What do you mean?"

"Every tree that survives for centuries becomes a witness. It sees travelers arrive, children grow, and families change. Even when no one remembers a particular event, the forest continues growing."

Kael considered her words.

"Then perhaps that's why the Silvermoon Elves protect it so carefully."

"Perhaps."

Their conversation was interrupted when Veyloria discovered a group of young elves playing beside a stream.

"Can I play with them?"

Kael nodded.

"Go ahead. Just be careful near the water."

Veyloria hurried over.

Within minutes, she was helping the children catch glowing water sprites.

Kael watched from the path.

Ignisia stood beside him.

"You're smiling."

"Am I?"

"You always do when you see them enjoying themselves."

Kael looked toward his daughter, who was now laughing with the elven children.

"They deserve to enjoy their lives."

Ignisia gently squeezed his hand.

"And you deserve to enjoy yours, too."

Kael glanced at her.

For a moment, he said nothing.

Then he smiled.

"I suppose I do."

Later that afternoon, the clan elder led Kael's family to a quiet clearing near the center of the forest.

The clearing was surrounded by ancient silver trees, and a small stream passed through its center.

"This place has been reserved for the Moonheart Seed," the elder explained. "We believe it will thrive here, but the final decision belongs to you."

Kael knelt and examined the soil.

He could have forced the seed to grow instantly.

He could have transformed it into the greatest tree in the forest.

He could have filled it with enough energy to survive until the end of time.

But that wasn't what the gift was for.

Instead, he gently placed the seed into the earth.

He covered it with soil and poured a little water over the spot.

Nothing happened.

Veyloria crouched beside him.

"Is it supposed to grow immediately?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because living things should be allowed to grow at their own pace."

Veyloria looked at the soil.

Then she nodded.

"That makes sense."

The elder smiled.

"Your father understands our traditions well."

Kael stood.

"I still have much to learn."

The elder laughed.

"That is why we continue teaching one another."

A faint blue light emerged from the soil.

A tiny green shoot appeared.

Its first two leaves opened beneath the sunlight.

Veyloria gasped.

"It's growing!"

The little plant swayed in the breeze.

No overwhelming magical aura surrounded it. No thunder shook the heavens. No grand announcement echoed through the forest.

It was simply a seed beginning its life.

Kael looked down at it and smiled.

"Welcome to the world."

As evening approached, the Silvermoon Elves invited Kael's family to share another meal.

The tables were filled with elven dishes, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

Veyloria sat between two young elves, enthusiastically telling them about the Imperial Capital.

Kaelignis discussed magical archery with the clan's warriors.

Seralyth helped the younger children decorate lanterns.

Meanwhile, Kael sat beside the elder.

"Thank you for welcoming my family," Kael said.

The elder smiled.

"Your family is welcome here whenever they wish to visit."

Kael looked across the gathering.

His wives were talking with the elves, his daughters were laughing with their new friends, and the forest spirits had begun gathering around the lanterns.

For once, he felt no need to hurry anywhere.

"Then I hope we'll return," he said.

The elder raised his cup.

"To friendship that endures beyond generations."

Kael raised his own.

"To friendship."

Their cups touched.

Above them, the silver leaves rustled beneath the evening breeze.

And in the quiet clearing, the little Moonheart Seed continued to grow.

It would take years before it became a young tree.

Centuries before it reached maturity.

Perhaps thousands of years before it stood beside the oldest trees of the forest.

Kael didn't mind.

Some things were worth waiting for.

And for the first time in a very long while, the Architect of Existence had planted something without knowing exactly what it would become.

He intended to let it surprise him.
