Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Juliet's Pov

I was home until the afternoon, waiting for Evander to come back. I was bored alone in the house, so I started cooking. The foods were halfway done when I heard the bell ring at the door. I took off my cooking shirt and wore a clean one. I changed it so quick, I think it took me 0.5 seconds.

I opened the door to find Marcus, tall and all in dark brown and white.

"Your brother said he will come in an hour. He told me to come here to keep you company," he said, watching the ground. He never looked at a girl straight in the eye; he would rather look at the ground or the forehead.

"Come in," I offered.

He got inside and sat on the couch. "Seems like you are cooking," he said, probably smelling the food scent.

"Yes," I said, trying to sound lame. I am not over what he did.

"Listen," he began. "I am sorry for what I did. I feel like an irresponsible jerk." He stopped when he reached me, his face still facing down. "Please, stop the silent treatment. I shouldn't have done that to you."

He lifted his head and saw me, looking into my eyes. I saw his eyes up close for the first time ever. I can't say for sure, but his eyes were a siren hazel, the window passing the sun rays to his dark brown eyes. I couldn't stop looking away from them.

"For yesterday, I was a jerk."

Suddenly, his hand darted out and gently grabbed my shoulder. His touch was firm but careful, sending a shocking jolt through my arm. We've known each other for years, but we haven't touched except to pass something or to salute.

"Julie, forgive me."

Wait a minute, did he say freaking Julie? What was wrong with him? Did he hit his head with a rock or something? His face card was a 10; he was pretty hot, and I was blushing, but he only said "forgive me."

I blinked, pulling my gaze away from the sudden, magnetic intensity of his eyes. The cooking shirt felt suddenly too tight, and his fingers were still resting on my shoulder.

"Did you... did you just call me Julie?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper, the question laced with confusion and a strange, unfamiliar thrill.
