Marianne stopped listening to her husband's rambling and listened instead to the rain that had started since early morning.

"My mother said your father spent his entire life chasing opportunities and never achieved anything, so what makes me think I'll be different if I keep you around?"
Marianne stood in the hallway of the apartment she had shared with her husband for less than three months, staring at Jamie while he continued explaining why they needed to get divorced.
His mouth and hands were moving as he explained himself. His eyebrows moved every time he repeated the same sentence.
