Chapter 11 - Investigation, Clues

After asking for directions several times, Mitsuko finally found the clinic in the town.

The clinic was already closed. Mitsuko looked around to make sure no one was there, then grabbed the doorknob and twisted it hard, breaking the lock and successfully opening the door to enter the clinic.

The clinic is filled with many strange instruments and medical equipment.

Mitsuko didn't have high hopes of finding any blood.

After all, blood storage is too difficult, and it is basically used on the same day. It is rare to store blood until the next day, so they are just trying their luck.

Mitsuko sniffed and detected a faint smell of blood.

Following the scent of blood, Mitsuko arrived at a room.

There was a bed in the room, and a person was lying on the bed, covered with a white sheet. It was obvious that this was a corpse.

Mitsuko lifted the white cloth, and a strong smell of blood wafted out, mixed with a familiar scent.

"Was he killed by a demon...?"

Mitsuko examined the wounds on the corpse.

The body was dissected, but it was clear that there were no external injuries.

However, the internal organs inside the corpse were a complete mess, as if they had been eaten away by something.

Mitsuko frowned deeply: "The internal organs inside the abdomen were gnawed away, but there are no external injuries?"

Mitsuko pondered how to eat the internal organs without damaging the skin.

There was no need to collect blood from this body.

After a person dies, blood circulation stops, and most of the blood in the body remains in the large blood vessels and heart.

The corpse's major blood vessels had been destroyed, and its heart had been gnawed away, leaving only a small part. In other words, it was no longer of any value for collecting blood.

Having gained nothing, Mitsuko had no choice but to leave the clinic.

After leaving the clinic, Mitsuko didn't plan to leave the town; instead, he intended to find the demon.

Walking along the streets of the small town, Mitsuko carefully used his sense of smell to detect the scent of demons, but after exploring almost the entire town, he couldn't smell a single demon.

Mitsuko wondered to himself, "Have they already left?"

A sudden scream interrupted Mitsuko's thoughts.

When Mitsuko arrived, he saw that the place where the scream had come from was surrounded by a crowd.

Mitsuko pushed through the crowd and squeezed to the front.

A man was found lying on the ground, curled up in pain and spitting out large amounts of blood. He stopped moving after a short while.

Soon, the town's doctor arrived and, due to the urgency of the situation, provided immediate treatment.

After some treatment, the doctor shook his head, indicating that there was no way to save the man.

The man's body was taken back to the clinic, where doctors needed to conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause of death.

The onlookers began to whisper among themselves.

"This is the sixth one this week, isn't it? Is this some kind of infectious disease?"

"It shouldn't be an infectious disease, right? The ones who died earlier all had their internal organs eaten away by something."

"I heard that all of these dead people had been to that izakaya on the street corner before they died. Maybe there's something unclean going there."

"Really? I go to those izakayas every day. I'm not going anymore. My life is more important."

...

Mitsuko left the crowd.

According to what the passersby said, six people have died in the same way this week, and they all went to the same izakaya. Mitsuko plans to go and check it out.

Mitsuko arrived at the izakaya on the street corner.

Mitsuko entered the izakaya, which was bustling with activity.

Mitsuko noticed that all the guests were men, and all of them were staring intently at a very beautiful woman.

Wherever a woman is, that's where men's eyes will follow.

So much so that no one noticed Mitsuko wandering around inside.

This izakaya is probably so lively because of this woman.

Mitsuko carefully sniffed the smell of the izakaya. Apart from the smell of alcohol and smoke, there was no smell of demons.

"Is this izakaya (Japanese pub) unrelated to demons...?"

After his investigation yielded no results, Mitsuko left the izakaya and went to the clinic again.

The clinic was brightly lit, and it seemed that the doctors were examining the deceased man.

Mitsuko was waiting outside.

Not long after, the lights went out and the doctors left the clinic.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Mitsuko slipped back in and found the body that had just died.

The abdomen of the corpse had been cut open, and the condition inside was similar to that of the previous corpse, with the organs ravaged and mangled.

Because the man had only recently died and blood was still seeping out, Mitsuko took a glass bottle from the shelf next to him where medical supplies were placed and collected some of the blood.

At least we don't have to worry about losing control of our blood flow later.

suddenly.

Mitsuko noticed something amiss in a piece of scraps of meat.

After brushing away the remaining residue, Mitsuko discovered a white insect egg.

The moment Mitsuko picked up the insect egg with tweezers, a slug-like insect hatched and tried to bite Mitsuko's finger.

Mitsuko crushed the insect to death, and trickles of blood flowed from its body.

Mitsuko frowned deeply. This insect must be the culprit that devoured the man's organs, and the demonic scent on it was extremely strong.

Before they hatch, the demonic scent on these insect eggs is so faint that it is almost undetectable.

Mitsuko couldn't understand how these insects left after devouring his organs.

Since the demon's scent is very strong after the insect hatches, why didn't Mitsuko smell the demon when he was at the scene?

Logically, when an insect hatches, devours the organs, and leaves, it should leave a lingering scent.

...

The man had only recently died, which meant that the demon was still in the town.

With no clues, Mitsuko could only continue wandering around the town, hoping for the best.

late at night.

The once bustling town is now gradually becoming deserted.

Occasionally you can see a few people who are drunk and staggering.

As one of the drunk men was about to pass by Mitsuko, he suddenly leaned against the wall and began to vomit.

It felt like he was about to vomit his guts out.

They only left after they could vomit nothing more.

Mitsuko covered his mouth and nose, glanced at the vomit, and saw a shocking scene.

The man's vomit contained many white worm eggs.

Mitsuko followed the drunk man all the way home, where the drunk man fell into a deep sleep.

Mitsuko waited in the shadows near the man's house.

Dawn broke quickly.

But the drunk man didn't go out all day.

Mitsuko waited patiently, knowing that even if the man went out now, Mitsuko would not be able to follow him.

The man finally went out at night.

Mitsuko hurriedly followed the man's footsteps.

The man went to the same izakaya as yesterday.

The man sat in the chair, still drinking heavily, his eyes fixed on the beautiful woman without blinking.

The man even groped the beautiful woman as she passed by.

The beautiful woman wasn't angry; instead, she covered her face and smiled charmingly.

Everything at the izakaya was the same as yesterday; there was nothing unusual, and no demonic smell.

But this man is Mitsuko's only clue at the moment.

Mitsuko had no choice but to continue following this man
