Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

"She's not going to survive it. I think we both know," Xavier said to the Greek god whose name I hadn't been able to catch.

"Werewolves are stronger on a full moon. Why the hell would the council declare a trial with a mere human?" Xavier added.

At this point, saying I was confused was an understatement. "Okay, will someone tell me what the hell is going on? I mean… where the fuck am I? Trial? Wolves?" I asked anxiously.

"I'm Luca Drucan, the alpha of the Blood Moon Pack, which you are presently in, prince of the seven realms," the Greek god introduced himself. I was too frozen to speak and instead waited for everyone to introduce themselves.

"I'm Quinn, a werewolf too, and a great chef," she said, winking.

"Althea, Lycan of the Blood Moon Pack," the smirking guy said.

"Sabrina, future Luna of the Blood Moon Pack, a witch though," the girl I'd somehow wanted to snap her neck introduced herself.

"You know me already, Xavier, beta of the Blood Moon Pack, a warlock," Xavier said. I swear a million flies must have entered my mouth because… what the hell? Werewolves, witches, alphas, warlocks, vampires?

"You guys are real? I mean, werewolves, witches, warlocks, vampires? Hell, I didn't even know my bestie was a warlock…" I said all at once.

"Someone didn't give a proper introduction first," Sabrina said, chuckling.

I cleared my throat. "Lyra, Lyra Hendrix," I said.

"Look, Lyra, I know you might have spent your entire life not believing in the existence of another realm, a world where we creatures exist. This might come as a shock, but you are believed to be a reincarnation of a very great and evil witch," Luca said.

At this, everyone in the room fell silent.

"Witch? How…?" I asked, confused.

"Centuries ago, the most powerful witch of the White Coven, the very last bloodline of white witches, was charged with killings of humans and our kind, using their blood for black magic. The council found out and sentenced her to death with the Flame of Eternity, the only way to kill an immortal being. But before she died, she cursed herself to be reborn until she wipes all supernaturals from the face of the earth, for our unjust judgment," Luca explained.

This was a lot to take in. I was destined to kill thousands? How? I couldn't even kill a bug or fight in school, yet they claimed I was the reincarnation of a powerful witch?

"Let me guess… the same goddamned council is setting me up for a trial as a way to kill me?" I asked.

"Yes, Lyra," Luca replied. I heaved a sigh. The room fell into an awkward silence. I stared at Xavier, then Luca.

"Those dreams… the witch… Caullidora Moretz?" I asked, and this time everyone stared at me in awe.

"You know her name?" Xavier asked. I nodded.

"I've seen her in my dreams," I said in a low tone.

"There you have it. She is indeed the doomed child, our very end if she does not die tonight," Sabrina spat.

"Enough! Just because I haven't slit your throat yet doesn't give you the audacity to speak such words," Luca said.

"I know, Sabrina. You told that devilish mother of yours about Lyra's presence," he said again, and this time we were all facing Sabrina, who looked like a child caught stealing.

"You thought I would not find out?" Luca added. That seemed to shut Sabrina up.

"Tonight is the night I die then. Hopefully, I'll meet my mum, dad, and Aunt Sasha," I said aloud. Although inwardly, I didn't want to die. I wanted to explore this newfound world of mine.

Xavier sighed. "Whatever you do, just know you are more powerful than you think. Prove you are Caullidora Moretz," he said. I just sat there, still trying to settle everything in my head.

"Quinn, get her bath ready, feed her, and have her dressed by five for the trial," Luca ordered.

"Yes, Alpha," she replied.

Althea, Xavier, Sabrina, and Luca all left, leaving just Quinn and me.

"So tell me, how's the human realm like…?"

Sabrina's POV

How dare he talk to me in such a manner! I screamed angrily. That girl, Lyra, has to be killed. Something about her makes me feel insecure. The Dark Lord must act quickly; she is the one we need to unlock the Great Dragon of Terror and raw evil, Usumgal. With such power, the entire realm would bow to us. We would harness their powers and rule forever; even the heavens wouldn't stop us then.

"Daughter, you seem troubled," a voice I recognized as my mother's said behind me. Ravenna–that was my mother's name–was a very powerful witch, the second in command to Caullidora centuries ago. Now she was the leader, the superior of witches in the seven realms.

"The girl Lyra… she haunts me already. I can sense something powerful within her. She must be killed before she takes hold of her powers. Her blood must be taken to the Dark Lord, then we shall put our plans into action," I said, walking around the room, my gown flowing on the floor.

"Yes, child. That's why I have come to you. You have been enlisted among the three warriors who are to duel with her tonight," my mother said, and I smiled deviously.

"Make sure you kill her and get her blood to Malphas, the Dark Lord," she continued, and I nodded.

"It would be so easy to kill her. Then we shall rule side by side with the gods," I replied.

"Let us be quick. The Dark Lord must not know of our plans," Ravenna said, creating a portal and walking through.

I had to prepare myself for the fight. Lyra looked weaker than an average human, but her powers were still bound within her. I closed my eyes and began reading the spells; dark magic. It was forbidden, but I secretly practiced it to make myself stronger.

"ku-uš-ša mušen-ĝir-gal-e-ne u maškim-ĝir-gal-e-ne, za-e u-mu-un-da-ab-huš-e-en Lyra Hendrix u-ma-da-ra-ab-uš-e-en caullidora moretz" I chanted. My eyes formed rings of fire. I coughed up blood. The magic was too strong, exhausting, and it demanded a life for mine. Each time I used dark magic, a life had to be sacrificed.

I called in one of the servants for a drink. The moment she came in, I took a knife, slit her throat, and drank her blood until I was satisfied. Witches don't feed on blood as much; we are restricted from feeding on humans of any kind. Instead, we feed on animals. But I was different. I had consorted deep into dark magic, and soon something truly malevolent might possess me. I said a spell, and her body dispersed into mere dust.
