Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Dormitory Pet Breeding Plan

Ethan Jones stood up and walked around the dormitory again and again, looking for a place to set up a small fire to raise the salamander.

"What are you doing?" Draco had no idea what his somewhat mysterious roommate was up to.

Ethan Jones's eyes suddenly lit up: "Draco, as the young master of the Malfoy family, you must know of any alchemical items that can provide a long-term and stable flame, right?"

The salamander that Professor Kettleburn gave me is currently being cared for by someone else; I'd like to make it a habitat in my dorm room.

"Well, of course I know a lot about this. I'll think about what's suitable and tell you later." Draco was clearly pleased with Ethan Jones's flattery.

He rushed out of the dormitory: "I'll be right back after a short while."

"Hey, this works really well." Ethan Jones smiled as he watched his retreating figure, not giving up on finding a solution himself.

He spotted a corner he liked and started gesturing, planning to set up a campfire there.

He shamelessly thought, "The dorm is too cold and damp. Isn't this a good opportunity to warm it up? I'm really thinking of them. They're so lucky to have such a good roommate like me."

Although he had the idea, he lacked everything. He had neither a stove to start a fire nor firewood, and he hadn't even learned the spell to start a fire.

Perhaps fearing that the young wizards would cause chaos after learning fire magic, it wasn't even mentioned in the first-year spells textbook.

Among the books he bought, there were a few fire-related spells, but they weren't for starting fires, and his magic level wasn't high enough to cast them.

"I still need Hagrid's help. Whether it's a stove or firewood, charcoal would be best as it burns longer. And I also need to consider how to vent the smoke. I can't exactly run the flue into the Black Lake, can I?" He decided that he would go to Hagrid's cabin tomorrow to get the preliminary preparations done.

"It would be perfect to have Hagrid make a small bookshelf for me to put all these books on. Judging from the furniture in his little house, he must have made them all himself."

As he was happily planning what he would do tomorrow, Draco returned.

Draco proudly told him, "Jones, I think I know what alchemical item is best for you—the portable fire bottle we use when making potions."

Ethan Jones slapped his forehead and sincerely praised, "What a brilliant idea, Draco!"

"But where am I supposed to get a portable fire bottle? Should I just ask Professor Snape?"

He recalled Snape's attitude towards him, stroked his chin, and said quietly, "It's not impossible."

Although there was a high chance of being rejected, Ethan Jones was eager to see his reluctant face, and besides, he was a Slytherin, so he couldn't afford to lose points on himself.

Draco looked at him with a disbelief expression, thinking he might have gone mad.

Ignoring his gaze, Ethan Jones gave a thumbs up: "Excellent, Draco, as expected of the young master of the Malfoy family!"

Draco had a bad feeling; he felt that Ethan Jones was up to no good.

Just as he was about to speak, Ethan Jones said, "Goyle, Crabbe, don't forget to throw away your trash after you finish your candy. Also, keep your voices down, I'm writing a reply."

Draco breathed a sigh of relief and shut his mouth, praying that Ethan Jones was just joking and didn't really want to ask Professor Snape for a portable fire bottle.

Moreover, even if he really does go, he shouldn't say that you instructed him to do it.

Draco was quite afraid of this professor, even though they were on good terms and his father often mentioned him.

After all, he was just an eleven-year-old boy. At that age, who wouldn't be afraid of a teacher who had a cold expression and would punish people at the drop of a hat?

Ethan Jones sat at his desk, opened the envelope, took out the letter and counted it. There were five sheets in total. No wonder Edward only brought the letter back this morning.

Of the five pages of letters, four were written by the mother, Sofia, and the remaining page was written in the father's handwriting.

He read his father's letter first, in order of increasing difficulty.

"He really is a man of few words." Apart from a subtle expression of his longing for him, the letter contained very little else.

As for his mother's letter, it was more direct. She wrote a page and a half just about how she missed him, and the rest was about everyday family matters. Although it was a bit long-winded, Ethan Jones felt very warm after reading it.

He unfolded the letter, placed it between the pages of his History of Magic textbook on his desk, and began to ponder how to write a reply.

They had met Professor McGonagall, who was surprisingly one of the more normal professors.

To avoid worrying them, he decided to describe as much as possible about Herbology, Transfiguration, and Astronomy when writing about the school, and he could also describe some spell classes as appropriate, but he would write less about other courses.

After all, among the remaining professors, there was a ghost, a disabled person, a cold and greasy man, and a stutterer—they all seemed abnormal.

So, to reduce their worries, he decided to write less about these things and instead describe the effects of the candy he was going to send them more clearly.

The reason he kept three portions of candy was that he wanted to send two to his parents and keep one for himself to try.

He quickly finished writing the first half of the letter.

He then glanced at Goyle and Crabbe, who had fallen to the ground but were now floating in the air again after the candy's effects wore off. Fearing that the two, who had little experience with magic, might be frightened, he solemnly wrote down a line:

"Dear Mom and Dad, if you float up after eating the candy, don't worry, it's just a magical effect and you'll be back to normal soon."

He planned to write the letter slowly, since he had a lot of candy to eat. He was still an eleven-year-old child, and his teeth hadn't all come in yet, so he couldn't eat too much candy.

Seeing that Ethan Jones seemed to have stopped writing, Goyle and Crabbe started loudly fighting over the remaining candy again.

"Aren't they afraid of getting cavities? Is the treatment for cavities in the magical world also very advanced? I'll ask Madam Pomfrey another day."

Soon, the candy left for the two of them was gone. With no more candy to fight over, the two began to use the levitation effect of the candy to collide with each other in the air, trying to knock each other away.

Two plump bodies collided with each other again and again, like two balloons colliding. However, unlike hollow balloons, the sound of their collisions was dull and painful.

After colliding again, the candy's effect suddenly wore off, and the two of them fell to the ground with a "thud," lying on their backs, screaming as they got up.

Ethan Jones was speechless, but the two of them laughed heartily after getting up.

"Go to sleep!"
