Chapter 42 - Chapter 17 Puppet Masters pt3

An invitation to another mixer was sent among alliance leaders and their leadership team with and plus one. The host was Elise of the FOX alliance. It was described to be an olive branch to everyone to form a good relationship with each other. Elise had promised to raise the security around her place by hiring more mages for those who felt it may be a ploy to get them to lower their shield. They had been trapped in this server without getting one step closer to unlocking the requirements to be eligible to be server king. What they didn't know was that the event Throne War had to be unlocked in order for the fight to begin. Everyone was sure that it would probably be Jericho.

Eden hadn't returned from the hunt to notice there were still messages and now an invitation. She was barely getting back to camp and saw her horses were safe. Thunder flapped his tail and bobbed his head when he saw her. She went over and caressed his face and pressed her cheek against his head and then looked around to look for Sylvie and Kane. They were emerging from the woods from the direction where their fight was. Eden asked Sylvie, "are you injured?" Sylvie replied, "It was just a warm up." Kane smiled as he kept walking towards the group. Eden then pointed with her hand in the direction she just came from. They had carved out some pieces they wanted from the fafnir before it disappeared and respawned. The cart was now full of scales, claws, teeth, venom, some meats, and the wings of the fafnir. "We can pull apart what we need and we can keep it," added Eden.

Eden checked her stamina and saw that she was almost out. They couldn't just transport themselves like before. They had parts they wanted to keep and those didn't work like regular boss drops. They needed to take them directly or the items would just perish there. Eden looked at Sylvie and asked, "how likely do you think we are going to encounter another creature in this direction?" Sylvie paused for a moment before answering and said, "It's very likely, giants are vengeful creatures and they will like to return to recover their kin who haven't dissipated yet. Eden nodded and checked the map to previous places she hunted. Then she got on Thunder and said, "Let's move." The rest were already packing regardless because they knew Eden didn't like to sit still in one spot. Despite her asking Sylvie's opinion, she would still move. They passed the large mounted Sylvie created and some soldiers awed at the view. Then they shrieked a little when they saw the giant hanging from a spear and hugging a golem. Eden looked at the other giant not far from the one sorta standing. It's throat cut and eyes staring back at them. He was wearing an item that was hanging from his neck. It looked like an Egyptian eye. The center was a jewel and it was flickering.

Back in a dark cave, the Elder was using a spring of water to channel the giant's item. He saw Eden emerging from the woods with her army, surrounded by her men and the lycans. He didn't see Erza, who was invisible due to the magical item. The Elder laughed and said, "I found the missing dogs." He continued to laugh as it echoed in the cave. Items were one of the methods their informants would send information and it was how the broadcast worked.

Eden felt an easy feeling and whispered to Erza, "there's someone or something watching us. I can sense something ominous." Erza replied, "I will destroy it." Then the item broke. The Elder that was trying to track the direction Eden was going got angry. He planned to send more of his minions and remove the Lycans from Eden's contract. As long as Eden didn't die once, she was able to retain any contract she held. If she was to respawn due to defeat, she would be subjected to losing some of her contracts which is how the monarch lost power.

Sylvie experienced the same feeling and was about to break that item, but noticed it cracked and assumed it was Erza, Eden's divine guard. She wondered if Eden knew what she had. She hasn't said anything because Eden has not openly mentioned it and she really didn't want to meddle unless it was something she had to deal with. She mind linked the others, "we are being tracked. Make sure we don't get followed. They dispersed and were gone for a few minutes. They returned and let Sylvie know that anything within 1000 meters was gone. The path was clear and they could go in any direction.

Finally they arrived at the new place and Eden gave the signal to begin the scouting process. They were almost out of stamina, which is why Eden picked the area that was the easiest to defeat monsters and closer to the castle. This was also the area she would sometimes spend hours hitting moving targets to vent some frustrations. They began to rest around a campfire. As Eden sat with her Generals, she noticed Sylvie and the rest of the lycan still standing guard. Eden called to them and said, "The most dangerous thing you will encounter is a goblin here. We are too far from their herds. That's why I picked this resting place. Come sit with us. I'm sure your hearing is all we need to be on alert." The Lycans hesitated to approach Eden, but she insisted by patting a spot next to her. After taking their seat, Eden said, "Thank you Sylvie, you showed that you can make tactical decisions without sacrificing the other." Eden took a sip of her drink from the pouch she carried, then continued.

"The horses may not mean much to most because they serve a purpose, but to me, they are like living creatures that support my men and I. They are just as part of the army as any soldier here. The same goes for my men, they are as important to me as the people in my alliance. I wouldn't want anyone to suffer at my expense, which is why I am meticulous and careful. Tomorrow, I want you to join the rest in training. You may not need it as much as they do, but I want them to be able to provide you with support if you or any of my new members needs it."

The camp was silent for a moment. Eden had just acknowledged the Lycans as her members and that she wants them to feel supported. Sir Tristan cleared his throat and said, "we will do our best to improve and support our members to the best of our abilities. We won't be left behind in skill." The rest of the men cheered. Gwaine said, "Did you see those giants? They each killed one. That's amazing!" Kane gave a smug look and looked at Gideon because he missed out. Then they began to compliment Gideon, Lewis and Murphy on their fast cover.

Eden felt a little at ease that she could trust Sylvie and the rest with being around her men without Erza supervising them. She took another sip of her drink and got up to take a nap to recharge her stamina faster. She was about to enter the tent when Sylvie approached her and said, "thank you." Eden paused and looked back, then replied, "I envy your queen a little to have you by her side. You are formidable. I will thank her properly next time we meet." Then Eden walked inside. Sylvie was left standing there smiling at the compliment. She was used to being told she was lucky to be in her position and that if it wasn't for Celeste, she wouldn't have been a lieutenant. So praise was definitely something she valued, especially if it came from a high ranking member. Even if this wasn't her pack. Eden was still the highest high ranking member and even had a divine guard. It was something even Sylvie and the Lycans could admire.
