Red hoped the beast didn't get back up again. He wished that the spear would kill the beast. He was hopeful until the beast rose again.

That gave the Chief time, as he was already next to the beast. He swung the axe from the side. The beast reacted too late, and the axe broke the scarred scales and cut its flesh. But the beast didn't stay still as the tail swept toward the Chief from an unexpected angle.
The Chief was in the air; there was no way to dodge or block it. The other Goblin Champions tried to help, but they were too slow compared to the tail. The tail hit the back of the Chief, sending the Chief flying to the side.
