Chapter 22 - Smooth Progression

Red absorbed the three Might Cores, and those three cores raised his Vitality by 0.8. It was rare for three cores to increase a single attribute. This was the first time it happened.

"It's time to head home!"

He took the three copper coins, storing them in his pouch. His pouch was getting heavier, and he needed to make a trip to his secret stash before returning to the tribe.

He still didn't know what this coin was for, but since the tribe kept it, he decided to keep it as well. More importantly, bringing so many coins would make him suspicious.

The Matron would find out that he exchanged too many beasts for loot. He was not interested in finding out what would happen to him if the tribe found out.

Following the mark he left behind, he returned to the dirt path. It was easy from there. He quickly found his secret stash and poured the coins.

Carrying two marget on his shoulder, he returned to the village. This time he raised the two marget while yelling his name.

The guard was at ease, not as tense as yesterday. They let him enter the tribe without giving him a hard time.

He handed over the two marget and two coins to the Matron in charge. She beamed at the sight of marget, but she still did her job properly, questioning what was inside the pouch.

It was his metal ball, and he made sure to inform the Matron that he exchanged two rabbon for today's exchange quota. He needed to make it clear to the Matron lest she misunderstood him.

Red passed the check safely and immediately headed toward the kitchen. There was the same group hanging in front of the old kitchen.

They gave him a nasty glare, but they didn't dare to do anything. Put aside what happened yesterday, the leather armor and the dagger on his waist were enough to intimidate them.

The same as yesterday, the main kitchen was packed with the warriors. He didn't see the workers at this time. He finished his meal quickly and quietly before leaving.

However, he liked the look they gave him. They no longer looked down at him and started to look at him as their peers.

Red didn't have a hidden agenda tonight and went to sleep pretty quickly. It was not as exhausting as yesterday, but it was quite tiring and mentally taxing. The way of his hunting required a lot of patience, after all.

This time, Red didn't pretend to be in pain. His hunting report was seven rabbon and two marget. That fulfilled the condition since Level 1 Marget was considered as two prey since it was one level above him.

The Shaman seemed to keep track of his hunting since the old goblin didn't show up at his place. It meant that the Shaman knew that he fulfilled the condition not to trigger the curse.

Red dressed up in his armor and was ready to leave for another hunt. He could not get rid of the thoughts of leveling up.

However, before leaving, he observed the surroundings for a moment. He made sure no one was watching his little hut. The Shaman was not the only one he was worried about.

He must watch for the other kids as well. Their dislike might start to turn into hate, and they might do something extreme to him. Especially with his current position, that might attract envy from the other kids.

He let out a sigh of relief when he didn't see anything out of the ordinary around. He started his day with a meal. The same as yesterday, there was no one in the kitchen this early.

Red started a conversation. It was an awkward interaction where he understood nothing of what she said to him. The only thing he understood was potto, which was actually wrong.

The female human corrected him again, calling it Steamed Sweet Potato. He remembered that she tried to correct him yesterday afternoon, but didn't bother about it. In order to form a relationship with this female human, he corrected his speech.

He wanted to get closer to this female human so he could learn their language. Not that he was interested in her. It was more for the information. He wanted to know more about the Awakening and its status.

Red was unsure whether the female human knew about the path. He wondered if there was more path than just Might and Magic Path. There might be even more things that he wasn't aware of about this Awakening. More importantly, he wanted to understand magic.

He didn't have any particular interest in it. The only reason he was interested was that he had high Magic Attributes to begin with. That was the reason.

Despite understanding nothing of what the female human said, it was not futile. The female human reacted positively to their interaction. He might be able to understand her and get more information.

He left the kitchen after finishing his early meal. He would start his hunt with rabbon just like yesterday and would start hunting marget after getting his rabbon quota of the day. As for the right path, he didn't have any interest in going there.

It was an unknown area to him, and he was worried about encountering the other kids as well. He might be able to fight off six to seven goblins, but he would be doomed if he were surrounded by twenty or even more. That was why I didn't even try to check the right path.

As for why he started with rabbon, he wanted to secure his extra meal. On top of that, he needed bait, and rabbon was easy to get, and there were a lot of them. A perfect bait for him.

Red halted his step when he was about to go to the middle path, glancing to the left. He saw a group of ten goblins headed toward the marget area. A frown formed on his forehead, clicking his tongue. Today's hunt might not be as quiet as yesterday's hunt.

He didn't know what this group was. They might be picking that area because of his success and appointment as a hunter. Or they might plan something nasty for him since they knew he had been going there for two days.

"Everything has been going smoothly for me. It's about time for something to happen…" He muttered in a low voice as he headed toward the rabbon area.

Red spent his morning and afternoon hunting the rabbon. Hunting became much easier with his slingshot, especially hunting rabbon since they were munching leaves and grass in the open. They had zero survival instinct, and he wondered how they were still alive to this day.

He managed to hunt 24 rabbon and exchanged 16 of them for loot. He got 10 Might Cores and six Magic Cores. The Magic Core didn't stop dropping even though he had maxed out his Magic Attribute.

Red tried to absorb the Magic Core out of curiosity, but nothing happened. Now he was in a pickle situation, thinking about what he was supposed to do with the Magic Core. Bringing them back was out of the question since he was only allowed to exchange 2 prey per day.

The Matron would come for his neck if they knew he had been exchanging more than 2 prey for loot. However, he had no use for them. He ended up making a second secret stash in the rabbon area for his Magic Core and the surplus coin.

He might need the Magic Cores in the future, so he decided to keep them instead of throwing them. Then he absorbed the Might Core, which gave him 2 attributes in total: 0.6 Endurance, 0.4 Vitality, and 1 Dexterity. With that, he was getting closer to maxing out his Might Attribute.

Red nodded satisfyingly and returned to the tribe with 8 rabbon on his shoulder. He would have a meal before checking what the kids were up to in his hunting ground. He hoped they died there, so he would have marget for himself.
