"Did any of you notice… the air suddenly got heavier?"
Inoichi stared at the battlefield ahead, shrouded in swirling clouds and choking fog that made it impossible to see anything clearly, and suddenly spoke.
"It really does feel like that."
Choza frowned slightly.
If Inoichi hadn't said it, Choza might not have noticed, but now that it was pointed out, he could clearly feel it.
The air wasn't just heavy, it was growing heavier by the moment, as if they were being dragged from the shore straight into the deep sea.
Orochimaru also sensed something was wrong.
"I can't see anything. This thick mist not only throws people into a corrosive mirage, but it's also fused with Hidden Mist, specifically designed to suppress dojutsu users and sensory ninja.
With my current Byakugan, it's impossible to pierce through this corrosive fog. I can't see Lord Garp or the Third Mizukage's battle at all."
Hizashi opened his Byakugan fully. Even when he pushed his ocular power to the limit, he could only see a few dozen meters into the fog. Anything farther was completely obscured.
This made him think.
'If I weren't shackled by the Caged Bird seal… my eyes would be stronger. I could see farther.'
"Fugaku, Shisui."
Hearing Hizashi's words, Orochimaru turned toward Fugaku and Shisui.
If the Byakugan couldn't see through it, then their only hope were the two who possessed Mangekyo Sharingan.
He had heard plenty about those eyes, three terrifying ocular abilities, plus the full capabilities of the Sharingan, all strengthened across the board.
"I can see a bit farther. The view within a hundred meters is clear."
Fugaku spoke calmly.
"But Lord Garp isn't within that hundred-meter range."
Shisui shook his head, unable to keep a sigh from rising in his heart.
This trip to Kirigakure had truly opened his eyes.
He had almost lost one of them, but he had witnessed the iron fists that once crushed two Uchiha legends until they couldn't lift their heads.
He had seen the brilliance of a First Hokage level Mizukage. And now he was witnessing just how terrifying the often-underestimated Third Mizukage truly was.
A seemingly simple mirage technique, yet it hid the lethal power, and even managed to stump two of the three great dojutsu: the Byakugan and the Sharingan.
"Tch…. A bunch of fools who don't even know how vast the shinobi world really is!"
Just as the Konoha shinobi were feeling helpless and uneasy, the usually silent Three-Tails Isobu suddenly spoke with disdain.
"Three-Tails, do you know something?"
Tsunade looked at Isobu. He didn't look surprised or unsettled in the slightest, which made her instinctively suspicious.
No wonder, right now the air had grown so oppressively heavy that even she felt uncomfortable, as if an invisible weight was pressing onto her back.
It wasn't just heavy, the air itself was hard to breathe.
"Raise your heads as high as you can. Open your eyes as wide as possible. Do not blink… not even once."
Isobu spoke in a strangely soft tone. None of them noticed the faint hint of amusement that flashed deep inside those massive eyes.
"Hm?"
Kushina frowned, and in the next instant, the scenery before her changed.
The cloud filled battlefield vanished.
In its place was a dark, damp space, a cage, and a fox.
"Nine-Tails, why did you pull me in?"
Kushina immediately confronted him.
"Open my vision to the outside."
Kurama spoke bluntly.
This was one of the reasons he hated Kushina so much, that the moment he broke free, he wanted to stab her with a claw.
In Naruto's era, even though he was sealed, he could still see the outside world freely through Naruto's eyes.
But in Kushina's time, he was truly imprisoned. All he could see was this dark, damp cage.
"It's not your outdoor time yet."
Kushina rejected him immediately.
She gave him a little freedom every day, not much, and only when she was in a good mood, just so he wouldn't be driven into desperate rebellion.
"You! Damn woman!"
Kurama's face twisted in rage.
"Wait. You know something, don't you?"
Kushina had been about to turn and leave, but then it struck her, Kurama had pulled her in voluntarily and asked urgently to see the outside. That wasn't normal.
"You're about to witness a sight…One that only the Kages of the First Hokage's era, the strongest shinobis of the Warring States, were ever qualified to see.
Back in that period, this scene belonged solely to them.
Of course… for people of your era, seeing this might not be a good thing at all."
Kurama hesitated for once, he didn't snap back.
"The First Hokage's level… A sight only the strongest could witness?"
Hearing this, Kushina finally understood why Kurama had been so impatient to get outside.
"Fine. Since your attitude wasn't terrible just now, I'll extend your outdoor time today."
Her curiosity now burning fiercely, she didn't delay at all, she opened Kurama's external vision and immediately left the sealing space.
"Kushina, did you ask the Nine-Tails?"
The moment her consciousness returned, Tsunade questioned her.
All the Konoha shinobi turned their attention to Kushina.
"The Nine-Tails said… we're about to witness a sight that only the strongest shinobis of the Warring States were qualified to see."
Kushina spoke while glancing repeatedly toward the fog-shrouded battlefield, and then toward the misty sky.
"A sight only the strongest shinobis could see…"
As Tsunade, Orochimaru, and the others felt a mix of anticipation, anxiety, and dread rise within them because of Isobu and Kurama's words.
Fugaku suddenly spoke.
"The mist is clearing."
