Chapter 12 - Guild of Fungi

Amy looked blankly at the ground for a minute, no money, no food and the ache of failure constantly resonating inside her body. Sure, she had a bit of food left but not for long.

What would Ariel do?

Quests, he always says that is the fastest way to gain money.

Do they even have that here?

"U...Um Amy?" Emily stammered with a faint voice. "Amy?"

Amy sighed and turned to Emily. "Does this place have... short jobs?"

"You mean… quests?" Emily answered

"Yeah they should have a building for it." She added

Her eyes lit up "They all have a frog logo you can't miss it!"

While scanning her surroundings, Amy saw a half-sheep with a purse and fluffy wool; slowly walking along the street, without a care in the world. Amy walked towards her with a quick pace.

"Hey, do you know where the quest guild is?" Amy called.

The half-sheep turned to Amy "Ah, yer broke, are ya? Baa-ha-ha!" she said, with a teasing tone.

Amy stopped mid-step, shifting her gaze away from the half-sheep, her cheeks flushed.

"Ah, no worries now, happens to everyone." She smiled, lazily lifting her hand to point ahead "Straight on, it'll be on yer left."

Amy shifted her gaze to the pointed direction, there it was, a guild carved out of a massive mushroom.

"Thanks." She said and slowly walked to her destination.

A faint chuckle arose behind her "No problem, have yer fun." the half sheep said.

Emily and Amy quickly walked to the gate, before them was a building carved out of a single massive mushroom with a large chimney on the top and three smaller chimneys on each side. Amy grabbed the handle, opening the door with the same confidence as the last door. Inside was surprisingly silent, few people on tables playing table games, whispers and occasional lip smacking and the scent of grilled meat and the mushroom wine.

They entered the building, finding their way to the red counter made from mushroom caps. Grabbing one chair each, they sat down, on the other side was a tall half-cow with eyebags under her eyes, wearing a white shirt with a frog logo embedded on her right chest and right, below that was a name tag, the tag said "Ashley".

"Are there any short quests?" Amy asked.

"I am afraid that you need a quest certificate to get quests..." Ashley answered.

A quest certificate? Adventuring should be a professional carrier here.

"How do we get certificates?" Amy asked.

Ashley pulled out two documents and a charcoal pen under the table and put it on the counter "If you don't mind, I'll need your name and age, and there will be a brief test afterward." she said with a reassuring smile.

Amy grabbed the pen and started writing her information.

Age, 24.

Name, Amy Regulus.

Height, which unit of measurement they use? Anyways I'll ask them to measure.

Weight, same as height.

She gave the pen to Emily and handed over the document. Who quickly filled out her form as well.

"Don't worry about the height and the weight." Ashley put the documents beneath the counter. "They are optional anyways."

"Would you mind if I lead you to the exam area?" Ashley added.

Amy and Emily arose from their seats, following Ashley to the exam area, suddenly a thought struck Amy.

Ariel would've hated this silence.
