Joy's photograph trembled in my grip, its edges soft from countless nights I'd traced her face with desperate fingers. Her radiant smile gazed back at me, frozen in eternal happiness, a stark contrast to the nightmare unfolding around her grave.

I thought I knew what devastation felt like. I thought burying my daughter was the deepest hell I'd ever experience. But standing here, listening to Tom's words echo across the cemetery, I realized I'd been naive. Some betrayals cut deeper than death itself.

The gathered mourners had fallen into shocked silence. Conversations died mid-sentence. Eyes darted between Tom and me, wide with disbelief. Several people stepped back, as if afraid to witness what was coming. The air itself seemed to hold its breath.
