Camilla's POV
Eden moved closer, her piercing stare dissecting my expression with the intensity of a detective interrogating a suspect. Her eyes swept across my face, hunting for clues I wasn't ready to reveal, searching for answers to questions she hadn't even asked yet.
Without warning, her palm pressed against my forehead, checking for fever like she used to do when we were roommates in college.
"Are you feeling alright?" she demanded, though her sarcastic tone couldn't mask the genuine worry threading through her voice.
I swatted her hand away with a gentle but firm motion. "What's gotten into you?"
"That's exactly what I want to know," she shot back, withdrawing her hand but keeping those hawk-like eyes locked on mine. "Because if you're mentally sound, then someone must have replaced my best friend with a stranger. Otherwise, why would you be asking about that piece of garbage?" Her voice cracked slightly, betraying the emotion she was trying to suppress.
