Jefferson's POV
The victorious grin spread across Gordon's face again, razor-sharp and filled with twisted satisfaction. "Curious, aren't you? Too bad you'll never get that answer. That particular secret dies with you tonight."
"Dies?" Cathrine's voice wavered, hiccups breaking through her words as tears began streaming down her cheeks. "Gordon, you can't mean that. This has gone too far. I understand you're angry, and maybe Jefferson deserves some of this, but killing us? That's not who you are. You can end this right now. Please." Her voice shattered as her hands moved protectively to her abdomen, a useless gesture since there was no pregnancy to shield. "Take everything I own. I never even knew about those shares anyway. Just stop this madness and get us out. The heat in here is unbearable." Her words dissolved into heartbroken sobs that shook her entire frame.
