"You're pathetic," Gordon sneered, sending me crashing into the dirt. Mud sprayed everywhere as we collided with the ground, our bodies tangled in a messy heap. Despite the impact, laughter bubbled up from my chest as I struggled to flip him off me.
"You're about to eat those words," I shot back, grinning while attempting to lock his head under my arm. This ridiculous competition had been going on for months now, each of us determined to prove who was stronger. Neither of us would back down.
A sharp voice cut through our scuffle. "Hey, you idiots! Dinner's ready!"
I glanced up to find Cathrine standing nearby, arms folded across her chest, watching us with complete disgust written all over her face.
The momentary distraction was exactly what Gordon needed. He slipped from my grasp in one fluid motion, pinning me flat against the muddy ground. His eyes found Cathrine, pure triumph radiating from his expression. "Count it!"
